I need HTTP/RTSP Video Streaming with Android. Any Ideas ?
Is that possible to go with JMF with Android ? Any Working examples ?
Already tried with
http://davanum.wordpress.com/2007/12/29/android-videomusic-player-sample-from-local-disk-as-well-as-remote-urls/
Its not working with my case. Are there any specific types of videos that Android can stream?

I was tried for RTSP stream for a long time, finally I could success to play the RTSP stream from mobile Youtube website:
http://m.youtube.com/
My approach is to copy the stream link and paste it in my code, then, there are sometimes success to work(play) on Android and sometimes will not. I can't figure out why? Is something wrong about Youtube server? Because my code is just the same, and only change is the stream link URL. I used VideoView widget and my Android platform is sdk 1.5 and under x86-based, so I really want to know why and how can I solved for this. This is the logcat when I can't work for the video stream.

I need your help regarding streaming in android. I read some of the previous discussions but I have a few doubts which I thought of clarifying from you. Please help me with the following aspects:
(i) Does android supports RTSP and HTTP streaming?
(ii) One discussion read -> "Streaming does not work in the emulator environment due to some firewall issues in the emulator network layer". Is this issue not resolved till now?
(iii) I used the api demo code available
@ ApiDemossrccomexample androidapismediaMediaPlayerDemo_Video.java
Here I set the path as->
path = "Rtsp://10.2.5.220/sample_50kbit. 3gp"; OR as ->
"path = "rtsp://10.2.5.220/sample_100kbit.mp4"
This is crashing @ mMediaPlayer.prepare();
(I am using darwin streaming server)
This is playing fine in local playback. But, I am not able to understand why it is crashing here.
(iv) The supported codecs are MPEG4 Video, AVC, MPEG4 Audio, AMR, and H263. Am I correct? I await your response. Kindly assist.

Recently I just create an app (that is using mediaplayer) to play the RTSP Streaming. At the beginning,I use the SIM card to connect to the internet. I try to let the app play for many times. But it was only success once. Many times the app could not play and the buffer always shows 0%. While I use the WiFi to connect the internet, the rtsp could be played but when I use the another WiFi to connect to the internet, to my surprise it failed. Both the SIM card and WiFi, it all could play the http Streaming. The RTSP Streaming is very strange, I can not understand. I guess there is maybe something wrong with Wireless.

I create a "mplayer" to play the rtsp on the emulator. When the "mplayer" play the http ,it is ok.
MediaPlayer mplayer = new MediaPlayer();
mplayer.setDataSource("rtsp://test.intra.3g.sina.com.cn/streaming/ 20090313/wenjiabao1.mp4");
mplayer.prepare(); mplayer.start(); but when it play the rtsp, it doesn't work. The Wireshark shows UDP Checksum Incorrect.

I wanted to stream A/V from my machine to Android over HTTP
(http://lists.mplayerhq.hu/pipermail/libav-user/2010-July/004944.html).
But that does not seem feasible using FFMpeg. I am planning to try FFMpeg streaming over RTSP. But I am not sure whether MediaPlayer or VideoView classes on Android support RTSP playback. Is playing RTSP stream possible in simple application?

We've a mpeg4 source that we would like to play in the media player. Our source is not in a file or on an rtsp server. It is hand coded to generate mpeg4 source on the fly. Imagine the data is coming from an unix pipe stream instead of rtsp or a file. How can I use that stream in media player?

I have Googled my butt off trying to find where if there is a surefire way to make rtsp work. I have a radio station that I listen to that streams via rtsp. Of course by default Android doesn't want to play it. If I pop the URL into yourmuze.fm and create a station there it lets me stream it to my phone. After checking how it works I come to find that it streams to the phone via rtsp! So obviously there is something amiss. What makes one stream work and one not? This is the stream I am attempting : rtsp://wms2.christiannetcast.com/yes-fm
It is an audio stream so I would be thrilled with most peoples problem of "it only does audio and not video." When yourmuze.fm streams, DDMS states it brings up MovieView to play the audio if that helps at all.

I noticed that you can't adjust media volume without first playing media. Like you have to, for example, press the play button before pressing rocker volume in order to adjust media volume or else you'll just be adjusting ringer volume. This is unfortunate since games also use media volume. So if you wonna start up a quick game in a quiet setting, your in trouble if you were listening music before and never turned down/off the media volume. Unless I'm missing something and there is in fact a way to do it?

I had an Ipod touch and just sold it because I got an Eris. I really like the phone but the media player is lame compared to ipods. I listen to downloaded radio talk shows and if I stop and listen to another song, it doesn't save my place. Not horrible in a talk show but in an audiobook, it really sucks. I don't want an iphone if it comes to verizon but I also don't want to have to keep track of two devices. Does anyone know if there is a bookmark capable app for media playing or will there be in the future? Thanks. I did search and didn't find anything on this, so if I missed it somewhere, sorry.

I'm trying to play a playlist I get using the MediaStore provider. However, when I try playing a playlist nothing happens. Can a MediaPlayer play a playlist (m3u file) and do I need to set the first track to play? This is my test code in the onCreate() method:
Uri uri = MediaStore.Audio.Playlists.EXTERNAL_CONTENT_URI;
if(uri == null) { Log.e("Uri = null");
} String[] projection = new String[] { MediaStore.Audio.Playlists._ID,
MediaStore.Audio.Playlists.NAME, MediaStore.Audio.Playlists.DATA };
Cursor c = managedQuery(uri, projection, null, null, null);
if(c == null) { Toast.makeText(getApplicationContext(),
R.string.alarm_tone_picker_error, Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();
return; } if(!c.moveToFirst()) { c.close();
Toast.makeText(getApplicationContext(), R.string.alarm_tone_picker_no_music,
Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show(); return; } c.moveToFirst(); try {
MediaPlayer player = new MediaPlayer(); player.setDataSource(c.getString(2));
player.start(); } catch(Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); }
I have turned on every volume stream.

I have some pretty simple Soundboard applications on the Android Market that work flawless on an LG Ally, the Motorola Droid, and the Nexus One, but I recently received an e-mail from a user with the Motorola DroidX claiming that most of the sounds do not work. I've exchanged a few e-mails with him. He claims the Soundboard is the only application running, and he's double checked to make sure that the Media Volume wasn't set to minimum. I really don't have access to one either to play around with. The application isn't doing anything cosmic to play the sounds. Below is a code snippet. Any insights into what might be causing the hang up are greatly appreciated.
public void play(Sample sample) {
Log.v(TAG, "Playing: " + getString(sample.getButtonTextResId()) + " (" + sample.getSoundResId() + ")");
if (mPlayer != null) { mPlayer.stop(); mPlayer.release();
} MediaPlayer player = MediaPlayer.create(this, sample.getSoundResId());
mPlayer = player; if (player != null) { player.setVolume(1.0f, 1.0f);
player.setOnCompletionListener(new MediaPlayer.OnCompletionListener() {
@Override public void onCompletion(MediaPlayer mp) { mp.release();
mPlayer = null; } } ); player.start(); } }

In my android game I want to have a rhythm Mediaplayer object and a lead Mediaplayer object playing in sync. However at the moment the rhythm is a slight bit behind the playback of the lead Mediaplayer object. Is there a way I can make it so that both are started at the same time, for instance using Runnables etc?!It's quite crucial that they play in sync with each other as you can imagine!

I can't seem to find the proper audio source for recording/analyzing/receiving the currently played music track (or just any playing media). I'm not talking about the Mic.
The spectrum live wallpaper does this on the Nexus One AFAIK.
How can I keep receiving wave buffers of the currently playing media?
(I would like to support everything from 1.5, but 2.1 specific solutions are also welcome)
