Oct 31, 2010

Is it possible to stream video to an Android device by using Windows Media Services? Which protocol should I use between RTSP and HTTP? Actually, I have a video file (MP4 format) at a server and I want to stream video files to an Andriod device.

Within Windows Media Player 12 (Win 7 x64), I have checked "Stream > Automatically allow devices to play my media" Unfortunately, when I open up Media Share on the Droid X, and continue to the music folder, it doesn't show anything - instead it lists "no files found" Open Media Share -> Computer -> Play -> Next -> Next (DLNA) -> Next (allow remote playback stuff) -> Next (confirming we're connected to the same network) -> Then I go tot he All Music folder, and the Droid X says "No files to display"

Android :: OpenCore / Streaming MP3 Over HTTP?

May 12, 2010

Im experiencing an intermittent and very frustrating issue with MediaPlayer on Android when streaming MP3 over HTTP. Ive done as much research and debugging as I possibly can to try and find a solution, but am coming up short. I cant find reference to this issue anywhere, including b.android.com. Essentially, whats happening is MediaPlayer will not come out of the preparing state. The device is receiving audio data during this time, as indicated by network sniffs and the MediaPlayer buffering callback being invoked repeatedly with increasing percentage values, but eventually the buffer appears to become full and stops receiving. Because prepare() never returns, or more accurately when prepareAsync() is used and the onPrepared callback is never invoked, and neither the onError() nor onInfo() callbacks are invoked, the application can neither call MediaPlayer.start() nor make any sort of recovery. Other notable observations: The problem is intermittent, meaning that subsequent attempts to play the exact same MP3 stream from the exact same server may exhibit this behavior or not - The problem seems to be exasperated when the device is connected via 3G versus wifi - The problem occurs on different MP3s encoded by different software - The problem occurs when streaming from different HTTP servers - The problem cannot be reproduced on any of the Android SDK emulators - The problem can be reproduced on the HTC Incredible, Verizon Motorola DROID, and HTC Touch - When MediaPlayer successfully returns from the preparing state, there is an info message (what=1, extra=44) received. This info message is not received during the problematic case. Anyone ever experienced this, or even find a solution?

Media :: How To Sync Android To Windows Media Player (including Playlists)

Nov 10, 2010

I use Windows Media Player to manage all my mp3s and playlists. I want my Samsung Galaxy S to be synchronized with my PC. I can connect my Galaxy S using "Media Player" mode and use the built-in sync with WMP, but there are issues:
1) Some mp3s get "corrupted" - how do I force WMP to "re-sync" them without losing my playlist association (if I manually add it as a file to sync, it is no longer associated with the playlist)

2) If I delete an mp3 from the device, WMP doesn't realize and won't re-sync the file again... is there a way to re-sync?

3) Sometimes WMP will re-sync playlists and each song shows up 3-4+ times when I load up a playlist on my device. I then have to wipe the Music and Playlist folder and re-sync from scratch any way around this?

4) Where are android playlists stored? The Playlists folder on the sd card can be wiped, but the playlists still show up in the music player?

5) If I make a change to a playlist on my PC, WMP will freeze and start skipping random files the playlists get corrupt and I see problem #3 occur. Essentially, if I change a playlist, I have to wipe the Music and Playlist folder and re-sync from scratch.

General :: Player HLS (HTTP Live Streaming) Code Modification

May 25, 2012

I have source code from an appli running on android 3.2 with a WAMP Server and WowZa Server on my desktop. I have to make it accept the HLS (Http Live Streaming). I saw on the web that the Vitamio Library can do that so i used it. I know that natively, android 3.0+ do it well but i do not succeeded make it work successfully.

The player is successfully displayed but no video starts..After a reboot of my router (because my server didn't answer), the player crash each time.

Somestimes yes, sometimes no, i have some logs, they are as attachment.I think a buffer problem...

I think I have to implement this method (at the end of my code) but i know what type in it.public void onBufferingUpdate(MediaPlayer mPlayer, int percent)

IT WORKS VERY WELL WITH .MP4

Here's my code from the Player Activity :

Code:
package fr.niji.broadpeak.activity;
import java.io.File;
import java.io.UnsupportedEncodingException;
import java.util.ArrayList;
import android.app.Activity;
import android.content.Context;
import android.content.Intent;
/*import android.media.AudioManager;
import android.media.MediaPlayer;
import android.media.MediaPlayer.OnBufferingUpdateListener;

[code]....

Commented lines are the lines when i had still not used Vitamio.

Media :: Converting Videos Recorded With MT3G For Use In Windows Media Player / Movie Maker

Apr 8, 2010

I want to be able to use/view the video's I record with my phone on my computer. (open from an email or use in window's movie maker)I have a new computer with Windows seven at work and a Vista laptop at home. I can send the video to myself and try to open in from my email or tether to the computer and transfer the file manually. Either way I can't open with windows media player. Video's taken with default "Camcorder" app on a myTough 3G running Android 1.6.I know it has something to do with the codec's the phone uses but wonder why they wouldn't use codec's that are compatible with the most commonly used pc's?Is there any way around this? Some kind of converter for the computer or for the phone?Is there another camcorder app that can record video with a different codec or is it phone hardware specific?So far have been able to use these forum's to sort out most of my Android problems but I'm stumped on this one. It doesn't seem like it should be this hard to do. Should be more user friendly.

General :: Playing Music On PC (windows / Linux) From Android (no Streaming)

Jan 22, 2013

I've been looking around for a solution to this - and so far have only found Gmote to be close to what I'm looking for. Actually Gmote hits it on the head, but I wanted to see if there were other options. Here's the setup:

We have a soundboard and speaker system. I would like to hook up a small PC (running either windows or Linux) to the soundboard so that whatever is playing from the computer will come through the speakers. And to control what gets played from the computer, I would like to use my Android phone.

I would consider streaming from my phone if it was reliable enough. I had first looked into streaming to the system via bluetooth - but that wasn't quite stable enough and dropped out too many times.

After hours of hit and miss using programs like Double Twist etc. I found that the easiest way to sync music to the iHTC Music player is to use Windows Media Player and buy Album Art Grabber to load the album art. Once you have done the initial sync with WMP you can go back and load individual albums simply by dragging them to the sync area. Connect your phone to the PC and unmount the SD card Open WMP and click the sync tab. Click the drive that represents your SD card (mine was H You will be prompted to sync everything for either this session or all sessions. (I always click this session only). Android :: Configure HTTP Proxy With Latest Android Emulator On Windows?

Sep 25, 2010

I'm at complete odds over configuring a proxy to inspect the HTTP(S) traffic for the app I'm developing. I've tried running Fiddler2 and Charles Web Proxy, both run on 127.0.0.1:888, and starting up the Android emulator with the parameter:

To test it out I open the Android browser. I see in Fiddler2 that the request is routed through the proxy. However, only RARELY does the request receive a successful response. In most, and when I say most I mean 99% of the time, the request is retried and fails again with the Android browser telling me "The server failed to communicate". Has anyone found a way to configure Fiddler2 or Charles for debugging HTTP(S) traffic through the Android emulator?

Android :: RTSP And HTTP Streaming In Android

Apr 29, 2009

I need your help regarding streaming in android. I read some of the previous discussions but I have a few doubts which I thought of clarifying from you. Please help me with the following aspects:

(i) Does android supports RTSP and HTTP streaming?
(ii) One discussion read -> "Streaming does not work in the emulator environment due to some firewall issues in the emulator network layer". Is this issue not resolved till now?
(iii) I used the api demo code available
@ ApiDemossrccomexample androidapismediaMediaPlayerDemo_Video.java

Here I set the path as->
path = "Rtsp://10.2.5.220/sample_50kbit. 3gp"; OR as ->
"path = "rtsp://10.2.5.220/sample_100kbit.mp4"
This is crashing @ mMediaPlayer.prepare();
(I am using darwin streaming server)

This is playing fine in local playback. But, I am not able to understand why it is crashing here.
(iv) The supported codecs are MPEG4 Video, AVC, MPEG4 Audio, AMR, and H263. Am I correct? I await your response. Kindly assist.

Android :: RTSP Streaming Using Media Player

Recently I just create an app (that is using mediaplayer) to play the RTSP Streaming. At the beginning,I use the SIM card to connect to the internet. I try to let the app play for many times. But it was only success once. Many times the app could not play and the buffer always shows 0%. While I use the WiFi to connect the internet, the rtsp could be played but when I use the another WiFi to connect to the internet, to my surprise it failed. Both the SIM card and WiFi, it all could play the http Streaming. The RTSP Streaming is very strange, I can not understand. I guess there is maybe something wrong with Wireless.
