Android :: No GData - Dalvik Java - Calendar ?
Apr 1, 2010
I'm working on a program whose job is to parse a schema from a course at university (html) and synchronize it with a calendar in Google Calendar. A must-have requirements from the author is that the user must enter their user information (x...@gmail.com) then connect via the Calendar API to calendar services. ** The smartphone calendar via Intent is not okay to use **
The main problem is that there is no GData (Dalvik Java) for Android. But I checked on GitHub and found that there seems to be something going on com.google.wireless.gdata: http://android.git.kernel.org/?p=platform/external/gdata.git,a=summary Searched around and found some packets like simply-android-GData and GData on code.google.com, but none of them help with the structure of calendrar, and they can login to retrieve data rss, json, atom.
So my question is then whether someone has a solution that works quite well as a possible. next update of the SDK will provide, a full GData API?
Is it possible to compile a custom SDK from git and get with the functionality of git://android.git.kernel.org/platform/external/gdata.git?
Minimum functionality: View Calendars View Events Add Events Delete Events

Is it possible to get the calendar's entries from the phone offline? It seem the only way is to use gdata-java-client.

I am trying to integrate the application I am developing with google calendar. The code I wrote for the calendar integration works in a java standalone project.
The problem is that I am getting an error when in my app I do the actions that uses the code that "talks" to the calendar api. I have created a "libs" folder in the root of my app project to put all the libraries I need. Then add jar from the build path config screen (in eclipse).
The error: 05-26 14:18:54.512: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(3522): *java.lang.VerifyError: > com.google.gdata.client.Service*

As I am very pissed off of using the emulator to develop any Java class, I thought of setting up a project in Eclipse and instead of the usual JRE I linked to the Android.jar (version 2.1) that usually the Android projects link to. I don't mean to use this to develop Layouts or other specific platform things, I was just trying to create a class that uses HttpClient.
It miserably crashes like this.
CODE:.............
I mean I'd like to develop libraries (and test them) so that when I go to the emulator I don't have to deal with them. Is there a good way to do this? This seems not to work for some reason.

I'm writing a processing intensive digital sound processing app (requires numerous (50,000) Fast Fourier Transforms - FFT). This challenge led me to perform basic performance tests of Android running on an HTC Hero.
The results show the Dalvik VM to be >20 times slower than a modern JIT-enabled JVM running J2ME and 25-50 times slower than a C program performing the same operations on a similarly powered mobile phone. For example, this simple iteration over an empty method 2 million times takes 1.4 seconds even though it doesn't do anything. The same iteration is performed in milliseconds by a C program and about 100ms on a modern JVM. Code...

I've done changes in an Android native library and installed a new system.img file but am now getting an unrelated Error on startup. I can get past it by swallowing the error but I wanted to know if anyone can explain what the issue is.
The Android implementation of Logger.java claims that it is Forcing the LogManager to be initialized since its class init code performs necessary one-time setup. But this forced initialization results in a NoClassDefFoundError. I'm thinking that it has something to do with the class not having been preloaded by Zygote yet but am not that familiar with the whole class loaders and VM business.

I'm wondering if and how one can load dex or class files dynamically in dalvik, some quick'n'dirty test function I wrote was this:
CODE:.................
whereas the Foo interface is this
CODE:.................
and f.dex contains some dx'ed implementation of that interface:
CODE:...............
The above test driver throws at defineClass() and it doesn't work and I investigated the dalvik code and found this:
http://www.google.com/codesearch/p?hl=en#atE6BTe41-M/vm/Jni.c&q=Jni.c...
So I'm wondering if anyone can enlighten me if this is possible in some other way or not supposed to be possible.

Is there anything the Dalvik VM supports (in terms of bytecode) which is not used currently because the .class files don't have it?
As an example, if people would write their own Source-to-DX converter for their functional language XYZ, would they be able to implement e. g. full tail calls although the .class file does support tail calls only under certain circumstances?

1. I have a c lib which will send & receive multicast package, if I lauch it in native ap, everything is OK, but if lauched through jni ,so it run in dalvik env, it can not receive multicast, i think is may be disabled by dalvik, is there any permission can enable this feature?
2. In this lib i will make some callback of function in dalvik class. according to tranditional method which can run under JDK1.5 & 1.6 as follow: (I make it under source code env not NDK)
In some initialization method save jvm pointer
CODE:...........
it seems AttachCurrentThread not failed but env not correct.

I want to make calendar view in order to support touch interaction. So I'd like to build new custom calendar view. I tried to make mapping function between view offset and real date value.
Here is my idea:
If I can compute the number of weeks since base date(in my case, 1989-12-31), it is easy to know offset. HEIGHT_FOR_WEEK * NUM_OF_WEEK is very simple computation to know exact offset.
My problem is this:
First I got milliseconds value from base date. And I set the milliseconds to another calendar object. I expected same date from that object. But actually it was different date.
CODE:...............
Here is my CODE:.........................

I am trying to work with the Google Docs API in an application for Android. I can find plenty of documentation on the API and how to use it, but I can't seem to figure out how to get the dependencies into Eclipse. I followed the instructions I found here: http://code.google.com/p/gdata-java-client-eclipse-plugin/wiki/Installation and could not get the EMF to install. I got the Google Data Feature to install and can now seem to get resolution to com.google.gdata.data.* and com.google.gdata.util.* , but most of the stuff I need is in com.google.gdata.client.Can someone PLEASE help me figure out Eclipse?! I have been searching the web for an answer and beating my head against the wall for a week now!

I am wondering what my options are for using GData and specifically the analytics api on android to build a small widget. After searching around for a while I couldnt come up with any libraries with decent examples.
Are there any dedicated libraries with some decent examples / doco to do this sort of thing? I would like to target 1.5 but if the are 2.0 only I guess that is fine too.

I'm writing an android 2.1 application that writes an entry to my Google calendar.
The relevant part of my application code looks like this:
CODE:..........
This code compiles with no errors, using Eclipse on MacOS, using external jar files from the Google gdata project: gdata/java/lib/gdata-calendar-2.0.jar gdata/java/lib/gdata-calendar-meta-2.0.jar
I export the application through Eclipse to generate the .apk file which I install on my N-1 phone. However the application cannot find the CalendarService class, giving me the following runtime error:
CODE:........................
When developing other android applications the "external jar files" always seem to be cross-compiled and packed into the apk file - so I do not understand why the app cannot find the CalendarService class.

I have been looking for a solution, but the only format that I can get a response to the profile API is in HTML. That is not very reliable for getting something like a list of the blogger's reading list. I have been able to get the default/blogs with my auth token and have the result returned in JSON. I then used that to get the author's blog-id .. and then .. the profile (which has the reading list). Howver, when I request it in JSON (i.e., ?v=2/alt=json) at the end of the URI, it still returns HTML. Is there a better way?

I've got working code that uses the gdata to retrieve feeds from my user's Google Finance portfolios, but I had to use setUserCredentials(username, password). What I'd like to do is avoid asking the user for their username/password since the Android device already has access to their Google account.
I believe I should be able to do this with setUserToken(String), but I can't figure out how to get the appropriate token from Android. I've tried AccountManager.get(context).blockingGetAuthToken() but that's either not the correct call or I'm passing it the wrong arguments. Has anyone gotten gdata working with the user's existing Google credentials on the phone?

I'm a new Droid Eris user and have been using Google Calendar for some time.I have a single calendar set up which is syncing with the Eris.I can successfully add/edit/delete entries from both applications and have them show up just fine on the other side.I have a couple of recurring entries that I've since deleted in Google Calendar but are still showing up on my Eris. The unique thing about both of these entries is that they were meeting requests sent to my Gmail address and accepted from there. They have since been cancelled from the original sender and are now removed from my Google Calendar. My calendar entries are labeled as dark blue, and these two show as light blue.I cannot select them on the Eris to edit or delete them.

Through out of my Java projects I've got used to TDD with the help of this basic tools
JUnit (http://www.junit.org/) as Unit testing Framework Mockito (http://mockito.org/) as tool for Stubs and Mock objects EclEmma (http://www.eclemma.org/) as Java Code Coverage for Eclips
As far as I understand none of them I can use fully when I do coding for Dalvik:
JUnit -- android.jar has its own junit.jar and my assumption is you're supposed to use it, not the latest version from junit.org Mockito -- read this one http://code.google.com/p/mockito/issues/detail?id=57 EclEmma -- doesn't support Android JUnit tests

I implemented a runtime bytecoder for Java apps based on Javassist. The idea is to introduce code to execute code remotely based on current context. Since the context is not the same at every moment, I need to perform the bytecoding at every execution (if needed). I tried to port my code to Android in order to test it on mobile devices (I already tested it on win mobile and iphone using phoneme and jamvm respectively). However, I could not find any bytecoding tool available for Dalvik. Is there any Dalvik bytecoder available or an ongoing project that I can join/check that is working on this issue? If not, is there any other alternative beside running a decompiler for dex files, and modifying it manually?
