Android :: How To Load A Java Class Dynamically On Android/dalvik?

Jun 11, 2010

I'm wondering if and how one can load dex or class files dynamically in dalvik, some quick'n'dirty test function I wrote was this:

CODE:.................

whereas the Foo interface is this

CODE:.................

and f.dex contains some dx'ed implementation of that interface:

CODE:...............

The above test driver throws at defineClass() and it doesn't work and I investigated the dalvik code and found this:

http://www.google.com/codesearch/p?hl=en#atE6BTe41-M/vm/Jni.c&q=Jni.c...

So I'm wondering if anyone can enlighten me if this is possible in some other way or not supposed to be possible.

Android :: Class Initialization Issues Loading Java.util.logging.LogManager In Dalvik VM

Mar 18, 2010

I've done changes in an Android native library and installed a new system.img file but am now getting an unrelated Error on startup. I can get past it by swallowing the error but I wanted to know if anyone can explain what the issue is.

The Android implementation of Logger.java claims that it is Forcing the LogManager to be initialized since its class init code performs necessary one-time setup. But this forced initialization results in a NoClassDefFoundError. I'm thinking that it has something to do with the class not having been preloaded by Zygote yet but am not that familiar with the whole class loaders and VM business.

Android :: Does The Dalvik File Format - .dx - Support More Instructions Than Java .class File

Apr 17, 2010

Is there anything the Dalvik VM supports (in terms of bytecode) which is not used currently because the .class files don't have it?

As an example, if people would write their own Source-to-DX converter for their functional language XYZ, would they be able to implement e. g. full tail calls although the .class file does support tail calls only under certain circumstances?

Android :: In Java, What Does A Reference To Class.class Do?

Jul 20, 2010

I'm building a small Android application, but this is more of a Java question than an android question. Looking through the tutorials there are lines that look like: startService(new Intent(this, MyService.class));

What exactly does the "MyService.class" field represent? Is that just a reference to the class for a template?

Android :: No GData - Dalvik Java - Calendar ?

Apr 1, 2010

I'm working on a program whose job is to parse a schema from a course at university (html) and synchronize it with a calendar in Google Calendar. A must-have requirements from the author is that the user must enter their user information (x...@gmail.com) then connect via the Calendar API to calendar services. ** The smartphone calendar via Intent is not okay to use **

The main problem is that there is no GData (Dalvik Java) for Android. But I checked on GitHub and found that there seems to be something going on com.google.wireless.gdata: http://android.git.kernel.org/?p=platform/external/gdata.git,a=summary Searched around and found some packets like simply-android-GData and GData on code.google.com, but none of them help with the structure of calendrar, and they can login to retrieve data rss, json, atom.

So my question is then whether someone has a solution that works quite well as a possible. next update of the SDK will provide, a full GData API?

Is it possible to compile a custom SDK from git and get with the functionality of git://android.git.kernel.org/platform/external/gdata.git?

Minimum functionality: View Calendars View Events Add Events Delete Events

Android :: Develop Using Libraries In Simple Java Project - Without Using Dalvik And Such

Oct 9, 2010

As I am very pissed off of using the emulator to develop any Java class, I thought of setting up a project in Eclipse and instead of the usual JRE I linked to the Android.jar (version 2.1) that usually the Android projects link to. I don't mean to use this to develop Layouts or other specific platform things, I was just trying to create a class that uses HttpClient.

It miserably crashes like this.

CODE:.............

I mean I'd like to develop libraries (and test them) so that when I go to the emulator I don't have to deal with them. Is there a good way to do this? This seems not to work for some reason.

Android : Performance Issue - Dalvik VM Is 20x Slower Than Most Modern Java VMs

Jan 6, 2010

I'm writing a processing intensive digital sound processing app (requires numerous (50,000) Fast Fourier Transforms - FFT). This challenge led me to perform basic performance tests of Android running on an HTC Hero.

The results show the Dalvik VM to be >20 times slower than a modern JIT-enabled JVM running J2ME and 25-50 times slower than a C program performing the same operations on a similarly powered mobile phone. For example, this simple iteration over an empty method 2 million times takes 1.4 seconds even though it doesn't do anything. The same iteration is performed in milliseconds by a C program and about 100ms on a modern JVM. Code...

Be default, when the system is up, all apps will be shown in the home screen. Now if we provide a customized log in screen, user A log in, then for this user, he can only see (and use ) app1 and app2. Then A log out, user B log in, he can only see app3 and app4.

Does API provide such capability to load the app list dynamically?

I oberved that: public Field[] getFields() Returns an array containing Field objects describing all fields which are defined. That's array is sorted as attributes are declared in the main Class in sun jdk. For example, next Class is defined as: public class Example { public boolean stop; public int atr1; public String name; ....

Android :: Way I Can Load Class Based On SDK Version?

Jun 7, 2010

Is there any way I can load a class based on what version of the OS the phone is running? For example:

I made an app which requires 1.6+ Android. Is there a way for me to load one class or the other based on what OS the phone is running? I'm asking this specifically for contacts. The database was changed from 1.6 to 2.0 and the old version doesn't retrieve contacts on the new OS phone. I'd still like to keep my 1.6 requirement, but at the same time I'd like 2.0+ phones to access the contact part of the app.

So can I make 2 APIs, somehow pack them with the app and decide on the fly which I choose to import?

I know how to do it with javascript/html. However, Android doesn't seem to provide any similar methods such as containsLatLng(latlng) or getBounds (I only found getLatitudeSpan and getLongitudeSpan, but don't know how can I use them in order to achieve the similar effect).
