Android :: PNG Quality In WebView Based App
May 10, 2010I am using WebView to display html content in an app. One of the pages has a rather large PNG image. The image is large and detailed on purpose because the idea is to use it as a map and allow users to zoom in to see the detail. Unfortunately, when the image is displayed with WebView, the quality is horrific. I am assuming that WebView is attempting to do some image optimization to reduce the size of the graphic. Jan 11, 2010Last year, I implemented a web application specifically designed to display large jpgs (approx 950px x 1000+px) in a magazine style format on WebKit for the iPhone. It works great there, as well as any other WebKit-enabled device - until Android.
On other devices, tapping zooms the image, then there is a momentary pause while the image is rendered and sharpened - so text retains clarity. The pause/render/sharpen never takes place on the Motorola phone or the AVD I'm running though Eclipse. Even taking the web app out the equation, going directly to the image in Android's flavor of WebKit shows the same issue.
I've tried outputting jpgs with a much higher density: 165dpi, up to 600dpi - there is some clarity increase, but not enough.
Are large jpgs just a lost cause w/Android? Is the render/sharpen on zoom something that just hasn't made it's way into Android's version of WebKit?
Android :: HTC Build Standard And Quality Assurance
Jul 14, 2010I am planning on importing HTC's next phone to come to Europe (HTC Ace?) and I am a little worried about HTC's build quality on a lot of their phones. The nexus one has this issue where dust gets under the screen, the EVO has a problem with light leaking out the bottom, and I've read about the Incredible feels very plasticy. I've seen many threads where people complain about HTC's quality assurance too and this makes me a little nervous because if I am planning on shipping from abroad, I don't want to have to return it if something goes wrong and be forced to wait weeks to months for a replacement. What do u think of HTC's build quality on their phones? Is it that much worse than Moto and Apple's?

I'm currently using Shure SE310 earbuds on multiple devices and have noticed no issues with their quality... I also use Pandora (on my droid) with no quality issues... So I know it is neither the earbuds or the 3.5mm headphone jack on my droid...
What I notice with Slacker is that the bass, probably 50%-75% of the time, comes through with a lot of distortion / crackling... It is apparent at all volume levels that the music is actually audible and varies across all music genres...

Mar 3, 2010I moved from the iphone to the hero and so far things have been great. Now to my question. On my iphone I had jailbroke it and was able to get an app to fool the phone into thinking it was on wifi when using the network data. This resulted in high quality youtube playback like when in wifi at home. Is there an app or a way to get the same thing on the android OS? Been looking around and have yet to find something. On another note. I have two gmail accounts set up on my hero and only get the proper push with one of them. Is this common?

Apr 15, 2009Are there any plans to implement some sort of group/team to review the applications before they're released onto the Market?I've never written anything for iPhone but from what I've read there's at least some quality control in place an application has to go through some sort of review process before it's made available for public consumption, I believe.So why not do that here?Let's be honest there are some great programs out there, and there's absolute crap.some of these are borderline scams.I can think of a few apps that have great descriptions but when you download them, they're nothing more than slideshows or something similar.I've even seen the feedback for one of these applications which said that you have to wait 24 hours before it will work which is, as we all know, the time at which the sale is final and no refund is given.If that's not a dodgy practice I don't know what is.I know it's still an early stage in the game for the platform but it's got a lot of potential - we wouldn't be here if it wasn't, would we? The only way to draw more quality developers to the platform is to implement some sort of control. it seems like it's the wild west here.

Is it solved on 2.0??? I realy need the high resolution image (3MP).
Android :: Phone With Good Sound Quality?
Oct 22, 2010My girlfriend is looking for a new phone - and she likes the android platform (I have a Nexus One).
However, she is not impressed with the sound quality (both in terms of what you hear and what the other person can hear). Plus, the speaker phone on the Nexus One is nigh on useless.
I don't have any experience of the Desire HD, or others - can anyone recommend any that they know has good sound?

I am aware of this solution Android: Strange out of memory issue but it is too coarse - inSampleSize is an integer and does not allow finer control over the resulting dimensions. That is, I need to scale images to specific h/w dimensions (and keeping aspect ratio). I dont mind having a DIY bicubic/lancoz algorithm in my code but I cant find any examples that would work on Android as they all rely on Java2D (JavaSE). EDIT: Ive attached a quick source. Feb 1, 2010I am trying to create a Video recorder but it looks like the video resolution is limited to 320 x 240. I tried changing it through MediaRecorder.setVideoSize() to something higher (e.g. 640 x 480) but gives me the same result. Is there a way to record video at higher quality? Also, when I try using the CAMERA as VideoSource instead of DEFAULT, the app force closes.

Jun 6, 2014I have just switched my phone from Iphone5 to Note3. I love the phone it's big bright screen very thing is nice. I am also a video freak I like to take a lot of video of my dogs on post it on Facebook. After a while I return to the video I uploaded it and the quality of the videos was CRAP!! I have no clue what I did wrong or what option I didn't choose. I went into the menu to see if I have checked on the UPLOAD HD VIDEO option like on iphone. There is no option to choose.....

Mar 17, 2010I want to display an image from an url with an Webview at Android. With Android phones with Version 1.5 and 1.6 there is no problem. but the same pic and the same code on an AndroidPhone with Version 2.0 and the pic is totaly pixelated. Like Android is resizing the image first to a smaller one and then resizing it back to "normal" size. Unfortunately its important to display the pic without any quality loss. I tried to integrate it in the sourcefolder to show it as an normal image, but at Android 2.0 i get an exception because the image is to big. (At Android 1.6 there is no problem) Any ideas how i can display the image without quality loss with Android 2.0 ?
