Nexus :: Battery Light Blinking Orange To Green Quickly - Device Not Start

Jul 5, 2010

I had to remove my sim card, which means that I had to remove my battery. After doing so, I put my sim card back in, followed by the battery, and after pushing the power button, the battery indicator started flashing green and orange.

The screen isn't turning on, and absolutely nothing is happening.

I've been pouring over google trying to find a solution, but haven't found any that worked.

One suggestion suggested that I hold the power button for 10-15 seconds, then plug it into power, then add battery. This did not work.

Another suggested the opposite- hold power for 10-15 seconds, add battery, then add power cord, still no luck.

I freaking love this phone. I really, really, really want to fix it. If there are any, ANY suggestions as to what I could do to fix this, it would be greatly appreciated. I tried to call HTC for support, but, wouldn't you know it, couldn't get to a phone before EXACTLY one minute before they closed.

Android :: Developing Smartphone Apps Using Rhomobile

Jun 19, 2010

I have been developing an Android application for about two months now, and the guy I'm writing it for wants me to use this instead of the android SDK so we can deploy the application for multiple smart phones: http://rhomobile.com/ he says you can write the application in one language and it can be deployed for most smart phones. Has anyone used this website to do something similar? Any advantages or disadvantages I should know about and tell him? Maybe someone could give me a better explanation on what this really does. I'm current a one man army. He wants the application out for most smart phones but can afford to hire more developers.

Android :: Android Developing For Tablets Harder Than Developing For IPad?

Apr 17, 2010

First of all, I just want to say I am a software developer, but I am not an Android developer. However I usually walk around and think on stuff. AndI've been recently thinking all the news concerning how fragmented Android is getting, with different Android versions and tweaks by different phone manufacturers, and then for developers you have different size formats. An example would be that HTC Tattoo might not be able to run everything that another phone might run, due to different screen formats, etc. And now the Android tablets are coming with different Android versions and different screen sizes, all from 5" to 11". Will this make developing Android applications harder? Apple has it safe here since they manufacturer all devices that run the iPhone OS: the pods, phones and now the pad so they can easily control and make sure not to loose any customers by introducing a new device. When Apple introduced iPad they had to make sure that all the old iPhone applications would work on the iPad. They solved that neatly by saying that iPhone applications will simply be stretched out to the double size and it would fit on the iPad. Unfortunately Android does not have the same luxury to do this. As I said, I am not an Android developer. Just a curious software developer For you guys who work actively in the Android community, does Google have a solution for this? Will you be able to run phone applications on the tablets? Is there a bridge between the devices? Are there any standardizations or will Android development become even more fragmented? you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Android Developers" group. HTC EVO 4G :: Temp Go Up Quickly While Web Browsing Downloading Apps Etc

Oct 2, 2010

I am coming up on my 30 day return deadline and want to see if my phone might have a hardware problem (hoping it doesn't) or if it's normal that i've got temps of up to 118 degrees. While idle or sleeping, the temp is of course low but once I start to fiddle with the phone, I see the temp go up and up quickly. Right now it's at 104.4F after about 5-10 minutes on my phone (web browsing, downloading apps, etc.) It is usually between 100F and 110F and sometimes the kickstand is hot to the touch. I feel like it gets abnormally hot in a short amount of time. Hottest it ever got was about 118F while playing home run battle 3D and my LED alternated which meant it was overheating. There isn't a day that the phone does not get hot. Also, I do have a case on it which might contribute to the heat a bit. What are your normal temps while using the phone?

Android :: Best Book To Learn Programming

Jun 25, 2010

Can anyone recommend a good Beginner Android programming book? When I was in college about 20 years ago I used to program a lot (Basic, Pascal, COBOL, Fortran). I dabbled a little bit in VisualBASIC about five years go, but it was really a hack. Now, I really have a burning desire to write some applications for my Android phone, but I really don't know anything about all the new programming technologies (OOP etc). I'm looking for a good book that will teach me modern programming using Java and the Android platform.

I've seen good books on learning Java 6 and some good books on programming Android (but they all seem to assume you know Java or C), but nothing that seems to combine the two. I'd really like to learn Java right on the Android platform to begin with if possible. I know there are a lot of resources available online but unfortunately much of the time that I will spend on this endeavor is when I won't have internet access so a good book would go a long way.

Android :: OpenGL ES Lagging - Learn ES 1.0?

Jan 22, 2010

Why is support for OpenGL lagging so far behind with Android? I have ebooks that date OpenGL 1.0 ES back to 1997 or so. I don't understand why ~13 year old technology is what's being offered in the Android API. Could someone enlighten me? What's the best path for someone wanting to learn OpenGL ES 1.0? The ebooks I have are of course not oriented for Java/Android and most everything in them doesn't work when I try it. I can post some specific examples later but at this point I'm just wondering if I'm wasting time or if I should keep going and struggle through it. I have a tiny amount of OpenGL experience but it's with 2.0 and apparently things were very different back in the ES 1.0 world. I guess my question boils down to, is OpenGL ES 2.0 support coming to Android anytime soon? And what OpenGL ES 1.0 + Android learning resources already exist?

Android :: Which GUI Framework Learn To Know Scripting / HCI?

Mar 6, 2010

I have some knowledge about Human computer interaction and some basic knowledge programming scripts (Python) that run from start to finish and automate some tasks I want to do or calculations. In the past I built interfaces in HTML with PHP behind it. I would like my python scripts to evolve from the command line and build some applications with GUIs that would allow the user to drag files and push buttons to initiate operations and check progress graphically. Since I write my scripts in Python I looked at some of the options (Tkinter, wxPython, PyQt) but I can't make a decision between them to invest my time learn one and not the other. My criteria: Has a introduction for programmers for GUI (what are the differences from a script, examples of some simple interfaces). A framework that would allow me to run my programs on the platforms I use most (Windows) but that can also run on Mac and maybe Linux, without too much modification. If not the same, similar to how you program GUI for Android and/or Nokia smartphones. I'm planning to write some programs for these platforms in the near future so I would like to carry over some of the lessons here onto those platforms, if possible. I did find this previous question but none of the answers are satisfactory. Does any of the frameworks fit these requirements better than the others or are they essentially similar and I would be happy with any of them?

Android :: Force Apps To Start On Boot?

Dec 3, 2009

Unfortunately, I've had to uninstall several apps that I liked because they force start on boot and my Droid was becoming completely laggy because of too many apps starting on boot. I understand that some apps/widgets need to start on boot, but others its completely unnecessary. At a minimum, make an option in settings to let the user decide if we want it to start on boot up.

I just uninstalled Note Everything, Estrong File manager and Weatherbug because they were starting on boot. I love MixZing and I am kind of annoyed that it starts on boot, but its an app I "need" so I can't uninstall it. I'll probably email all these devs and ask about giving the option not to start on boot.

Android :: Which Mobile Platform Would Be More Rewarding To Learn As Developer?

Oct 1, 2009

I am interested in getting my feet wet in PDA/mobile development. The only two drivers for me are the drive to learn cool (or at least, new) stuff, and may be to code some app that I felt I really needed but lacked. As such, I would like to know what the comparative benefits/downsides would be for me as a developer in choosing one of the three platforms (iPhone vs Palm Pre vs. Android.I will have access to any of the 3 but not to Windows mobile). This is not a duplicate of this question, since I do not care at all about that question's data points (cost of the handheld, popularity of the platform). Also, just to be clear, my goal is not financial at all - I don't plan to make money off of such development nor directly use the skills in the area I might obtain in my career (e.g. I work on stuff that has zilch mobile exposure and will remain so). So concerns such as "installed user base" are pretty irrelevant. All I care about are tangible (learning) and intangible (sheer joy of it) benefits to me as a developer. Also, please be positive and don't put down other platforms or otherwise use this as a holy platform war excuse. I have edit privileges and will mercilessly edit any un-backed-up-by-facts attacks on any platform that aren't downvoted.
