The main concept goes like this. I have four listviews with its own data loaded at the same time. Only one listview will be visible to the user. Now, when the user presses a button, not only the current
listview but also other three listviews should be minimized and then user can just scroll just as in Gallery and select the listview that one wants to open.

Android :: Which View / Layout Does Market Application (1.6) Details Activity Use?

Feb 26, 2010

I want to do something very similar (in terms of appearance) to the app details activity of the Market app. It looks like a cross between linear layout (not all rows the same), list (scrolling nature), preferences (headings). My guess is its a linear layout in a scroll view (ignoring activity header/footer) and the headings are just hard coded.

Android :: Apply Animation To View In Application After Created Activity?

Sep 23, 2010

I am trying to apply an animation to a view in my Android app after my activity is created. To do this, I need to determine the current size of the view, and then set up an animation to scale from the current size to the new size. This part must be done at runtime, since the view scales to different sizes depending on input from the user. My layout is defined in XML. This seems like an easy task, and there are lots of SO questions regarding this though none which solved my problem, obviously. So perhaps I am missing something obvious. I get a handle to my view by: ImageView myView = (ImageView)getWindow().findViewById(R.id.MyViewID);

This works fine, but when calling getWidth(), getHeight(), getMeasuredWidth(), getLayoutParams().width, etc., they all return 0. I have also tried manually calling measure() on the view followed by a call to getMeasuredWidth(), but that has no effect. I have tried calling these methods and inspecting the object in the debugger in my activity's onCreate() and in onPostCreate(). How can I figure out the exact dimensions of this view at runtime?

Android :: Possible To Integrate Checkout Directly Into Application?

Now that checkout will be supporting more countries, is it possible to integrate google checkout directly into my app. My business model is not based around a paid/demo app model, but on a add-on model. I would like to be able to make sales directly from the app itself using the market account if possible. I could reposition to a free/paid model, but I'd prefer a in-app model using google checkout and a streamlined process. Is this even possible at the moment?

Android :: Best Practices To Integrate Tips In Application

Apr 22, 2010

What are the best practices people have used to integrate help/tips in their application? One way I can think of is having html snippets in resources or assets - perhaps as html files - maybe as formatted strings. However, I think it would break down once an html file linked to another html file or an image or icon. I'm sure some of you have apps that are so wonderfully intuitive that they don't need any help. And I admire that. But I'm not making that assumption for my app.

Android :: Can Update A List View In One Activity While Im In Another Activity

Oct 4, 2010

I currently have a tab layout with 2 tabs, one tab with a list view and one with the option make strings so I can add them in the list view. Both tabs have their own activity because this made the code much more structured, and I dont have to repeat my self later.

Lets say im in the tab that offer me to create an string, and i press the update list button, how do I update the list view without startActivity()? If i use startActivity(), it starts List.java, and instead of displaying the list in the list view tab, it takes full screen, which defies the purpose of the tab view. In other words, the startActivity() steals the focus from the tab view of the list, and sends it fulscreen.

I want to update the activity in my list view tab, without starting a new activity that goes to fullscreen, and doesnt update the one in the tab.

Create New Activity Or Update View Of Existing Activity?

Dec 24, 2012

I am working on developing an app and I am not sure when should I use a new activity and when should I update the existing view.

For example, lets say I have a view that shows a multiple choice question. Now, when the user selects his choices and clicks on say "Evaluate", I want to show the same question view but along with the right answers and explanations for each option. So does that mean, I should send an Intent upon a click on Evaluate or I should just update the view (i am not sure how)?

If I send an intent and show a new screen, how can the user go back to the next question without displaying the answers? If I don't create an new activity, how can I update the existing view that is already displayed?

I want the toggle button(s) to be in my custom titlebar like in the images (if they are attached). What is the best practice for this? Tab view seems like a solution but can I customize the tab buttons? Should the map and list be in different activities or the same? Now I have two different activities one extending MapActivity and one extending ListActivity but no way to toggle between them. Is it possible to load activities into a FrameLayout?

Essentially, I want the separate app to take care of the bindView and newView methods of my adapter.

I am looking at RemoteViews, but I am not sure if that is exactly what I need, if it would work, or maybe it's what I have to use, since it would be cross-process.
