Android :: Implement ClientLogin To Access Google Services?

Jan 28, 2010

What is a good way to implement the Google ClientLogin scheme below on Android? My understanding is that Android does not support the GData API. So I wanted to say, login to my Google books account, will I be able to do it using Android and the reference above? What classes should I be looking at in the Android SDK? (I am using Android 1.6.)

Android :: How Does Google Implement Microsoft Exchange Access

Jun 10, 2010

I know with Android 2.x there is the ability to tap into Microsoft Exchange, for at least email, if not calendar and contacts. I would like to see how this was accomplished. Particularly because Microsoft Exchange exposes SOAP web services, and I understand there is no native Android support for SOAP. Since this is open source, shouldn't I be able to find something in the Android source? If so, can you point me in the right direction of where to find it in the ~4Gig (!) source? I want to develop an application that accesses Exchange contacts and calendars, but don't want to reinvent that piece.

General :: Access All Google Play Services From Anywhere In The World

Dec 13, 2012

I have a concern about accessing all Google Play Services from non authorized countries. I think it's a shame there are so many people in so many countries prevented from bying content on play store. Thought first of a petition, but not sure it can have effects. Had a look on xda, there is already a old thread on the subject but not working for most of the repliers, specially me.

Thought some developers would be interested in giving acces to a larger number of people. Looks like more justice to me.

Android :: Implement Signature-level Security On Android Services

Sep 21, 2010

I'm developing on an application at the moment which contains quite a lot of personal user information - things like Facebook contacts, etc ... Now, one of the things I want to be able to do (and have done, quite effectively) is open up parts of the application to "3rd Party" applications, using Android's build-in inter-process communication protocol (AIDL). So far so good. Here's the catch: because we're involved in handling quite a lot of personal information, we have to be quite careful about who can and can't access it; specifically, only "Trusted" applications should be able to do so. So the natural way to do this is to use a custom permission within the AndroidManifest.xml file where we declare the services. My problem is this: I want to be able to enact signature-level protection (similar to the normal "signature" permission level), but with a bit of a catch:

I don't only want application signed with our internal signature to be able to access the services. I'd like to be able to build a list of "trusted signatures" & at runtime (or if there's a better way, then maybe some other time?) be able to check incoming requests against this list of trusted keys. This would satisfy the security constraints in the same way as the normal "signature" permission level I think - only programs on the "trusted keys list" would be able to access the services, and keys are hard to spoof (if possible at all?) - but with the added bonus that we wouldn't have to sign every application making use of the APIs with our internal team's key.Is this possible at the moment in Android? And if so, are there any special requirements?

General :: Android Access To Ubuntu Instance On Amazon Web Services (AWS)

Jan 6, 2013

I currently have an AWS instance running Ubuntu 12.04 and use NoMachine NX client to access via FreeNX. I also have the Java in place on the instance and that gives me access from any device with the NX client installed or via a web browser that runs Java JRE.

Ubuntu Desktop version is from here: [URL]

Unfortunately I cannot find a way for either of those methods that is compatible with Android on my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (great phablet by the way).

how I can might be able to access my Ubuntu Cloud Desktop on AWS from my Android device? I don't mind rebuilding the instance if there is a good way to do this.

Android :: Authenticating With Youtube - ClientLogin?

Feb 27, 2010

I'm writing an Android app that, among other things, uses the GData libraries to upload videos shot with the camera to Youtube (code below). However, I'm a bit confused about how to authenticate my users. Can I simply assume that they are already signed in to Youtube, since they're using Android? Or do I need to ask them to authenticate? In which case, should I use ClientLogin? There seems to be little example code on how to use ClientLogin in Android, and since it's using people's Google account passwords, it obviously needs to be secure. I'm a bit concerned at the prospect of writing my own authentication code without much guidance, and at the extra step required from users.

It seems odd that I have to ask people to authenticate for a Google service, given that they are using Google phones and the inbuilt Google apps don't require external authentication. Why is this? It seems to put my app at a disadvantage to Google's own apps.

Here's the code that I have, below:.....................

Android :: Google Checkout - Paypal Integration Into Phone Using Its Web Services?

Apr 1, 2010

I have already asked this question regarding Payment Gateway Integration into Android, but didn't got any satisfactory answers.

Can someone let me know is it actually possible to integrate any of the above mentioned Payment Gateways into Android?

Mostly I think we can call their Web Services and then consume those services which will be in XML.

I will like to know if someone has done the same thing or is absolutely sure about this.

I want to develop a shopping cart type application where the user needs to purchase the products from the list of products. Once the user selects the product, the payment should be made directly from the same application only and not by opening Google Checkout or Paypal mobile website.

Please let me know what you people think about this. Hope to get the answer quickly.

Jelly Bean :: Google Services Battery Drain On Android 4.2.2?

Sep 27, 2013

There is a known issue on Android 4.2.2 with excessive battery drain with Google Services when Wi-Fi & mobile network location is enabled. Does Android 4.3 resolves this? I can't believe that Google will not use Standalone GPS services if Wi-Fi & mobile network location is disabled. So, the only way to use Maps is to put the phone in excessive battery drain mode.

I have a couple of images on available to my program. They are parts of jigsaw puzzle (with rectangular pieces though). I wanted the look and feel similar to that of google maps in android.

One way I could implement was to create a set of ImageViews and keep recycling them, as the user pans the image in any direction. However, to me that appears like a brute force method. Is there any alternative approach to implement such kind of application? Or rather how is google maps implemented? A set of Imageviews ?

General :: Google Play Services That Won't Install On Some ROMs

Apr 24, 2013

after I had surfing internet for a while, I had found a workaround and successfully installed Google Play Services on my device (GT-S5300) with custom rom.

Credit:

[URL]

Steps:

1. Download Gapps for your ROM here.

2. Turn off your phone.

3. Enter recovery mode and do Wipe data/factory reset. (Make sure that you have backed up everything.)

4. Flash the Gapps.

5. Wipe Dalvik cache and cache partition then reboot.

6. Get the lastest version of Google Play Store and install it.

7. Update all the Gapps via Play Store.

8. Then install Google Play Services and done!

Or open the Market (Play Store) and tap agree. Then press home and leave it awhile. After the Play Store is updated, open it and tap agree again. The new Play Store should download Google Play Services and install it for you.

NOTE: It may NOT working with some ROMs.

General :: Using Play Store Without Installing Google Services

Feb 7, 2014

Before that, I was on CM 10.2 and GAPPS that comes with it, I was able to use the market even though I uninstalled the Google services apk, everything worked just fine. Maps sometimes said somethin' like "best experience with google services", but it actually did work smoothy...

Now I installed CM11 with new GAPPS, and when I disable Google services, then Play store tells me that it can't run without it, and just closes without letting me download any app.

Is there any way do bypass this check ? I fight any app running as a service when it's not needed (battery life, data consumsion, privacy), that's why I don't want to have the Google services on my phone.
