Android :: Way To Delete App Associated Files From External Storage On Uninstall

Jan 1, 2010

It'd be convenient if an application I'm writing stored some files to external storage permanently (so they persist after the application has been exited[destroyed]), but on an uninstall I'd like to do the decent thing and have these files removed to free up the storage.

Is there any way I can have these files removed on an uninstall?

If there isn't (and I'm skeptical), then I'll have to create these files each time. I'm trying to save start-up time and also occupy required space by having them exist permanently.

Note: I need to use external storage, so both internal storage or a DB would be inappropriate.

Hey there, I have a Wildfire and basically Im a gmail user (as in, my email service is primarily provided by google and had been since it launched).

But I hate the gmail app on the wildfire running android, and really like the mail app.

Problem is, Gmail is currently syncd to both and so if Im not at the phone when I recieve a message notification I will recieve two notifications for the same message (one from gmail, one from mail), and then can view it in both apps. in a nutshell, I want to be synced to gmail, using the mail app, and I need to know how to turn off the gmail app, without losing any syncing etc.

Samsung Captivate :: Superuser Permission / How To Uninstall / Delete Forever?

Sep 5, 2010

So for the past year I have been using a blackberry bold 9700. At the time when I bought the phone, AT&T didn't have any really appealing android offers. Anyway, the captivate came out, and it seemed like finally there was a good, high end android phone for my carrier, despite AT&T's usual bloatware BS. So I went onto craigslist and found some dude who was willing to sell his captivate for 200 bucks + my bold 9700 (side question, was that an OK deal? I feel like a little less money would have been fair).So we met traded, I'm finally on android, I love the phone, but there is one problem.There is an application on the phone called superuser permissions that I can't delete.I found out it's a program used for rooting.Even though I plan to root my phone eventually, I don't want to root it yet (I'll wait until froyo is released for my phone), and I would rather just root it myself and know what I did to my phone, if that makes any sense.

To make matters a little trickier, I use a mac. I can transfer files between my phone and my computer by going into usb debugging, but the samsung only has drivers that work with Windows... I don't know if that's a problem or not but I just thought I'd mention it.

Android :: Hitchhikers Guide Soundboard

Feb 19, 2010

I have a weird problem with the hitchhikers guide soundboard app on the market. I have a non rooted HTC Magic (running 1.6 donut) and live in New Zealand. I was able to install an early version of it (1.2) I think. So the app would appear in the "My Downloads" section.In the description of the app, I could then see the app was getting upgraded frequently. But I never got any notification to upgrade. When I then searched for the app, it no longer appeared for me in the market.Its like somehow its been geo restricted, or perhaps no longer compatible with my phone, so it had disappeared for me to download/upgrade. I can even goto the authors website & try installing the app independent of the market, but even then a dialog box pops up saying "Cannot install on this phone".I can see other people are downloading and using it, but am wondering if other people are having any issues finding & installing the app? Perhaps using the HTC Magic?You can search for "hitchhiker" in the Market, or goto the authors site Coulson.mobi

How To Make Soundboard

Jul 6, 2009

I am looking to make several soundboards that I would like to put in the market for free. I really don't know anything about the code needed to do this. I have in the past taken a MUD (Multi-User Dungeon) and gone into the code and changed it to how I wanted it. Could it be anything like that?

Is there a way I could take an existing soundboard... like the Old Man Herbert soundboard and simply go into the code and just change out the sound, photos, and text?

Android :: Android 1.5 - Asynctask DoInBackground Not Called / Method Called

Oct 26, 2010

I am running into an issue with the way my asynctasks are executed. Here's the problem code:

firstTask = new background().new FirstTask(context);
if(firstTask.execute().get().toString().equals("1"))
secondTask = new background().new SecondTask(context);

What I'm doing here is creating a new asynctask object, assigning it to firstTask and then executing it. I then want to fire off a separate asynctask when the first one is done and making sure it returns a success value (1 in this case). This works perfectly on Android 2.0 and up. However, I am testing with Android 1.5 and problems start popping up. The code above will run the first asynctask but doInBackground() is never called despite onPreExecute() being called. If I am to execute the first task without the get() method, doInBackground() is called and everything works as expected. Except now I do not have a way to determine if the first task completed successfully so that I can tell the second task to execute. Is it safe to assume that this is a bug with asynctask on Android 1.5? Especially since the API says that the get method has been implemented since API 3. Is there any way to fix this? Or another way to determine that the first task has finished?

Sprint HTC Hero :: Remove - Delete / Uninstall Pre-installed Programs - Apps - Or Sprint Apps

Nov 7, 2009

Is there any way to remove pre-installed programs?

For example, the following programs were pre-installed:

Amazon MP3
Footprints
Teeter

And maybe some others.

I've just tried:

Settings | Applications | Manage Apps

And noticed there's not always an option to Uninstall on these and some others.

Is it possible to remove, delete, uninstall, or get them off the device?

Is there any way to remove the pre-installed Sprint programs?

Sprint TV
Sprint-Nextel
NFL
Nascar

Are there some "core apps" or "core programs" that can't be removed?

A brief search on this matter on related threads seems to indicate only on "rooted" phones.

Android :: OnKeyDown Not Always Called In App

Oct 20, 2009

I've created a simple android game, based on the Lunar Lander sample, and I'm having a problem with handling key events.When the activity starts, the only keys that onKeyDown or onKeyUp get called for are the dpad up/down/left/right keys.Neither the menu, back, or dpad_center keys trigger onKey methods. However, once I've pushed one of the dpad up/down/left/right buttons, pressing the menu, back, or dpad_center keys do trigger these methods. I'm not getting any errors, or any indication of what's going wrong.It's possible that the focus is set wrong - the activity is started from a button on screen, so it could be in touchscreen mode. If that's the case, shouldn't touching the back button get me in to the right focus mode so that I can catch the event?I'm using the emulator from SDK-1.5r3.I have not been able to try this on a real phone yet.

Android :: OnLowMemory Not Getting Called

Apr 6, 2010

I'm working on an application which allocates lot of memory and hence I'm bound to get OutOfMemory. I want a way to get notified when system is running short of memory so that I can stop processing further, notify user and release as much memory as possible.

According to official Android documentation there is a callback onLowMemory from the system. I have a class which extends android.app.Application and I have overridden onLowMemory() method. This class has entry in the in the application tag of AndroidManifest. However it never gets called in my case. Do I need to register for this event using AndroidManifest or any other means?

Android :: OnContextMenuClosed() Not Called Under 2.x

Jan 1, 2010

In one of my applications I programmatically open the context menu when something is clicked in my MapActivity overlay. This works perfectly under 1.x as well as on my 2.0 Milestone. I've used showContextMenuForChild() historically, but openContextMenu() does that same thing.

As expected onCreateContextMenu() is called to build the menu and then onContextItemSelected() is called when something is selected. So far all is well.

The odd thing is that under 1.x the onContextMenuClosed() method is called when I press the back key, but not so under 2.0. This confuses states for my app since I need to know whether menu is shown or not - or maybe there is a way to know this that I have not (yet) figured out...

Is this a deliberate change or should I file it as a bug? Googling comes up pretty dry (stuff that is over a year old).

Anyone with a 2.0.1 Droid that would care to test whether this has already been fixed? (The ETA for Milestone 2.0.1 seems hazy still, but it appears that at least one of my reported bugs has been fixed in 2.0.1 event though it isn't flagged as such.)

Android :: OnSurfaceCreated Called Twice

Oct 27, 2010

Is there a way to make sure onSurfaceCreated is called only once during startup.

Currently in my app it gets called once with say 800x480 then it gets called a second time with 480x800. I guess this is probably due to a call to setRequestedOrientation in onCreate. Is there any way to make sure the app starts in a particular orientation, to prevent orientation changes, and to have onSurfaceCreated get called only once during start up?
