View 2 Replies View RelatedI know we can set the following value to the anroid:gravity and android:layout_gravity :
center
center_vertical
center_horizontal , etc.
But i am confused regarding these both. what is the difference between the usage of android:gravity and android:layout_gravity?
What is the difference between those attributes? According to the documentation of R.attr, there isn't any difference (doc text is exactly the same, see http://developer.android.com/reference/android/R.attr.html), but apparently, that's simply not true. For example, the gravity attribute can be used on EditText to set the text alignment (e.g. left, center, right).
I often found that neither of them work to align a view at all. For example, I need to float two text views in a relative layout, one going to the left below a title bar, the other going to the right below the title bar. So what I did was this:
CODE:...............
That doesn't work, however. The left text is indeed aligned to the left inside its parent (the relative layout), but the right text is not aligned to the right; instead, it's placed directly to the right of the left text.
The property android:layout_gravity="clip_vertical|horizontal" does the following as mentioned in the sdk documentation:
Additional option that can be set to have the top and/or bottom edges of the child clipped to its container's
bounds. The clip will be based on the vertical gravity: a top gravity will clip the bottom edge, a bottom gravity will clip the top edge, and neither will clip both edges.
But I can't see anything of this in my applications. so what is the purpose of this property exactly ?
I have 4 buttons in a horizontal linear layout. I'd like the right edge of the 4th button to align with the right edge of the linear layout (equal to screen width) I've tried using android:layout_gravity="right" but it doesn't work - the right button is to the right of the 3rd one but not right aligned . Am I missing something obvious?
main.xml with only the relevant layout params only is:
CODE:....
This doesn't seem to match the stated behaviour for layout_gravity in the SDK reference :"Defines how to place the view, both its x- and y-axis, within its parent view group."
I'm obviously missing something fundamentally simple here. I have a LinearLayout containing 2 buttons. I've coloured the layout background red so I can see that it has expanded to fill its parent. I wanted the BooButton to center horizontally within the layout and the OtherButton to be right justified. But both buttons are on the left of the layout.
CODE:..................
I have a simple LinearLayout with one TextView and one ImageView. I want the text in the TextView to be aligned to the right, but the result show that the Text was aligned to the left.
Is there anything wrong with my layout xml?
CODE:...............
I would like to know if is there a way to call android:layout_gravity property from a java method. I didn't found any method in Android documentation to do it. This is the picture of the layout I want to implement: But in my situation, I need to do it through Java code, because I'll implement another layout views dinamically. To avoid merging xml layout with Java code, I would prefer make all layout using Java. Code...

In the XML it is simply layout_gravity="Center" or something.

I have a layout xml file with a linear layout. One of the children is again a ViewGroup Relative layout. In my java code i want to change the width of this child Viewgroup for my requirements. I tried this
ViewGroup childViewGroup = (LinearLayout)findViewById(childViewGroup);
LayoutParams l = childViewGroup.getLayoutParams();
l.width = 360;
childViewGroup .setLayoutParams(l);
I couldn't do this because findViewById(childViewGroup) doesn't fetch ViewGroups it does only for Views. Note: I cant define a whole new layout.xml for this minor requirement since it is huge layout file and might cause performance overhead. I wanted to just change the width of the child view group in my java activity code.
How to push the code change to Android open source project? Anyone could provide a push command for me?
View 3 Replies View RelatedProblem: I have one app that let's you lock the device using Device Administration. One of my users had some conflicts with my app and another. He then removed Device Administration and uninstalled my app, rebooted his phone, and now he cannot access his phone.
He of course cannot use my app to change the password now (since it's uninstalled).
His phone is stock 2.2 LG Optimus V, Virgin Mobile, Rooted.
Question:I'm needing to find a way that my user can now change his lock code.
I need:
1.) to know an internal class (from com.android.internal) that I could use within an app to change the lock code (just like the system settings do).
2.) to know a command I can use with adb shell to remove or change the phone lock code.
3.) to know the location of the file that stores the lock code information.
I cant find a way to set the orientation on my SlidingDrawer when i change from landscape mode to portrait mode visa versa. Initially i set the orientation by xml to vertical. I need to change the orientation to horizontal when the phone is in landscape mode, so i get the handle on the left.
View 2 Replies View RelatedNew to Android and new to this forum. I've converted from a blackberry and I can't tell you how much I love my Captivate. Well, enough of that :-) I have a few questions. I currently have my display set to time out after one minute. When I'm using the music player is there anyway to prevent the screen from locking. I have having to unlock it to switch tracks.
As a side, is there a way to change the locking system from a sliding pattern to a number code?

I have a notification that starts my activity and passes a messages using the intent's putExtra() function. The message is then displayed to the user in the activity's onCreate function. When the application is restarted due to a orientation change, the message is shown again as it is still in the intent's bundled data.
How can I remove the extra data?
I tried the following:
Bundle bundle = getIntent().getExtras();
if (bundle.getBoolean("showMessage")) {
// ... show message that is in bundle.getString("message")
// remove message
bundle.remove("showMessage");
}
But the message will still be shown after the orientation changed, seems like the intent used is not the one I changed, but the original one. The only workaround I found is to save the showMessage additionally in onSaveInstanceState(). Is there another way? Or is this the way to go?
I have the following linear layout. What I don't understand is if I set the background to another image, the padding information are reset. Is there a way to prevent this?
<LinearLayout android:id="@+id/aPanel"
android:orientation="horizontal" android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:background="@drawable/bkground"
android:paddingLeft="15dp" android:paddingRight="15dp">

I see the position of the children get shifted when I change the backround drawable of the linearlayout 'aPanel'.
I have a widget which has say, a dimension of 294*72(portrait). But when the orientation is changed, I need to change this dimension of the widget to another dimension which would look good on the landscape orientation.
