Android :: Develop Software For Access Phone

I am writing a PC software, which is used to read, write, and update the contact information, send SMS, and change the settings of the phone from a PC connected to a Android phone via USB. Currently, the way I figured out is to use adb, but, I found that adb is be able to work only if the debug model is switched on in Phone side. So, I am wondering if there there is any better way to develop this kind of software. If the adb is the only way, can we just conquer the 'debug model' problem by any means?

I want to add a big feature to an application i am developping, but as this feature interest few people and is quite independant from the main part, I would like to put that in a seperate "plugin" application.Does anyone knows any design patterns, snippets, "reference" examples about such design?In particular that separate plugin application should be able to access some tables in the main application DB. Is it possible to do that without broadcast receiver? - the main application uses a TabActivity: is it possible that a the tabactivity instanciates an Intent Activity that is part of the plugin? - does the plugin can access main application preferences (not sure this would be necessary, but better to anticipate the question!) is it possible from the plugin to access main applications ressources?At least the 2 first points are mandatory for me.

I am trying to develop an app which streams live audio/video. I have the mediarecorder to record both audio, video frames , and it does so. But the thing is it records a chunk of audio and then records a chunk of video frames and then records a chunk of audio frames to the file. How do I determine where my audio frames start and where the video frames start?. Also is there any way to figure out the Video frame length ?. Iam really stuck at this point and any help will be greatly appreciated. This is how I initialize the mediarecorder in my app, Code...

I'm trying to develop an OC'd kernel for Pantech vega racer 2 phone. It has the same hardware as HTC Evita.
I was able to overckock it using zarboz' and rohan's work. But the frequence is drops down to stock 1.5 Ghz while the processor is on max load.
For example, I started SetCPU stress test and after few minutes checked max freq. It was dropped down to stock 1.5 Ghz.
The same with Antutu bench. Even with OCing up to 2 Ghz in final resulst it show 1512 Mhz and freqs are dropped down.
Due to the lack of development for this phone, I can't find any examples of OC code especially for this phone.

I want to test my android app on a phone. I do not have an android phone so I was going to purchase one. Question, I can get a phone on eBay etc without a contract will this work to test my app? Or must it be an unlocked or rooted phone? Can I install and test my apps on a phone that has not been unlocked and does not nave a contract?

I'm trying to develop a service, which needs to be run in background as a low priority task and does some complex processing . I need to gracefully quit my service when their is a resource shortage( like CPU running low on memory). Was there any APIs available to know the CPU resource usage, Objectives of my service is to - 1. I have an app that uses People provider. This is deprecated in version 2.0. I have built my application against API1.6 and set <uses-sdk android:minSdkVersion="4" android:targetSdkVersion="4" /> Everything was fine until I wanted to run the app on Android 2.0. Not only is People deprecated it actually doesn't even work! So, I have changed the API I'm compiling against API2.0 and do the OS version check in my code and use People provider or ContactsContract accordingly. I still keep <uses-sdk android:minSdkVersion="4" android:targetSdkVersion="4" /> so I can target 1.6 devices. Now when I want to debug in Eclipse it insists on running it on 2.0 emulator. How can I tell Eclipse that I really want to debug on 1.6 emulator? I have installed my APK on 1.6 emulator via the browser. It installed fine, but when I want to use People provider it crashes. I need to be able to debug it.

I want to run C# programs on my HTC Magic, I can find the mono app on the Android market but I have no clue on how to run C# using. The code is just for fun, I don't want official support and such. After coding Visual Basic on windows mobile, I really want to code C# on Android, whether directly using some sort of editor if exists, or compiling it on a PC then installing it on Android. I have gone through the Android guide for other IDEs, and I've got the basic build and install working fine using ant and a simple Emacs compile command. I'm aware of some of the existing tools for developing Java and XML in Emacs. I've also seen the EmacsWiki page recommending two Emacs packages, EmDroid and android-mode I'd like to hear what people recommend, in terms of Emacs packages, small functions, or just workflows. As a side note, I have decent familiarity with Eclipse, and I did setup the ADT plugin. However, emacs is my primary editor, and I'd like to see how I can use it here.
