Some Android devices don't have Android Market, like Korea, etc. Is it possible to detect the existence of Android Market at runtime? I know I can try to open a market uri first to see if there is any exception thrown. But I don't think this is a wise approach.

In Javascript/jQuery, how can I detect if the client device has a mouse?
I've got a site that slides up a little info panel when the user hovers their mouse over an item. I'm using jQuery.hoverIntent to detect the hover, but this obviously doesn't work on touchscreen devices like iPhone/iPad/Android. So on those devices I'd like to revert to tap to show the info panel.
My app has .txt files in subdirectories in the assets folder. It reads those .txt files and puts them in a textview. It's working great and no problems.
Should I be concerned about the files in the assets folder getting deleted by the user or missing. If this ever could happen, my app would get an error because the file would not be there when it tried to read it into the stream.
Is there a need for me to check the existence of an asset file before I read it or does the asset manager take care of it all? I also was wondering if there's a chance that a user would or could delete and asset file.
Like I say, everything works fine without me inserting code to check for file existence. I just wondered if people use the .exists() statement every time they go to read in a stream from assets.
I am wondering if I am able to detect if my application was installed with Android Market (it's in the download list of the Market and eligible for update checks) or it's not?It would be a very good point to detect if the app has been installed without, as that can mean it was stolen and installed from SDcard.

Is this possible for an app to tell where it came from (Market or non-Market?) I would imagine one could detect the presence of the signed JAR file.
Today, I placed our new app onto the market store. It can be found by most mobile phones - unfortunately, it cannot be detected by one specific model which is used by one of our customers. It is the Vodafone 845, with a small screen (240x320p) and low density (120 dpi). It's running with Android 2.1, updated version (i.e. SDK 7), and has all the necessary hardware (GPS, cam, and internet access), but, however, doesn't detect the app in the market. I have already tried anyDensity="true". The app is free, not copy protected, and open to all countries. I have the following settings in the manifest:

i have written an application that needs to process outgoing calls. Everything works fine, the application has already a few hundred downloads, but now i get feedback from people who would like to download it, yet cannot find it. I have done some tests and have found that the permission "PROCESS_OUTGOING_CALLS" seems to be responsible for this. If i include it in an app, people with branded phones (at least in Germany) cannot find it, as soon as i remove this permission, everything is fine (when i re-insert it again, the app vanishes again)
The weird thing is, that those users can see other apps which use this permission in the market. I have compared my manifest file to outputs from other manifest files and cannot understand why it doesn't work. i have received complaints from a number of customers that one of my paid apps is missing from the market and they can't download it after updating their phones to 2.2. I have no idea what the cause is and unfortunately i also don't have access to a device with 2.2. Maybe someone here can tell me what i'm doing wrong?...................
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an application published in the Android Market. Its target is 1.6 and its minSdkVersion is 1.5. The only persmission it uses is INTERNET. My Manifest file looks like this: I recently got an email from a user saying the application doesn't show up in the Market on an HTC Wildfire. I looked it up and the Wildfire is a QVGA (LDPI, 240x320) device running Android 2.1. The app does appear for MDPI and HDPI devices. Also, I can start up a QVGA 2.1 emulator and install the application without any problems.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI am developing my am on mac (10.5.8), on eclipse and SDK 1.6 and a Vodafone HTC Magic Everything was working ok up to a few days ago. I can not see my device on adb devices. I also got a Sony Xperia and I can not see it on the list either. I upgraded the phone software (the HTC) to 1.6 a few days ago. Maybe that is what caused the change, but I could not be sure.

But my manifest has the line : <uses-sdk minSdkVersion="2" /> and I also tried even <uses-sdk minsdkversion="2" />... I try to put this line : as the first child of manifest, as the last child and also right after application.. Is there a hidden rule I don't know ...
A while back I read that Verzion Android devices apps will have to go thru the Verizon Market, meaing that all apps has to be approved by Google AND Verizon. Can you sideload apps on Verzion Android devices?

And i want to detect the USB plug-in.But follow the information about the android.intent.action.MEDIA_MOUNTED in the SDK's DOC, i can't receive the event of the USB's plug-in. i have checked my code and it can receive the other event ( ps:intent action) .
Besides, in the CLI, i could mount the USB device to /sdcard but it couldn't mount automatically. have seen some source code about the mount and mountlistener and it should be effective. my SDK's version is 1.5.

Basically what I need is for the code to detect car acceleration motion. I am not wanting to determine speed with the code but just distinguish if the phone is in a car and has accelerated motion (Hence the car is moving for the first time). I have gone through many different accelerometer applications to see if this motion produces a viable profile to go off of and it appears it does. Just looking for something that popups a "Hello World" dialog when it detects your in the car and its moving for the first time down the street. View 1 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to get a system notification when an app has been uninstalled?I would like to maintain a table of all clients' info currently using my app. However, that seems impossible if there is no way to detect this event. The first solution I can think of is to have an always running service in the background listening for android.intent.action.PACKAGE_REMOVED. But then would that service be killed once the uninstallation process has ended, or would it be stopped just before the process has kicked off? Also even if this is a solution it's has the potential to put off a lot of people when they realise that part of the app is running in the background.

Can I do something about it? Is there a way to detect that ads are being blocked?
I am looking for a way in which I can detect any tap on the screen (not just in my app), I don't mind not having the information of what the tap was (control/letter), just the fact that a tap was made will suffice for me for now. Is there any possible way to achieve this?
