Android :: Call A RESTful Web Service From Application - Exception

I'm trying to call a RESTful web service from an Android application using the following method:

I can browse to address and see the xml results using the Android Emulator browser and from my machine. I have given my app the INTERNET permission.
I'm developing with eclipse.
I've seen it mentioned that I might need to configure a proxy but since the web service i'm calling is on port 80 this shouldn't matter should it? I can call the method with the browser.

I am trying to comsume a self-hosted WCF service which simply returns a String in JSON format. It takes a very long time around 2-3 minutes to get the response on Android Device, where as on any other computer it works fine. Could anyone help me on this?

I'm having problems during the "read" call of the InputStream. The call gives me a "IOException: Software Caused Abort" exception. I'm able to get the BluetoothSocket and also the able to "connect" to the device. My app. is in the client mode and sends in a "x" byte "command" to the device which is then supposed to send me a "response". The expected "response" is also of "x" bytes. This is where the error arises.. While reading the "response" i'm getting the above mentioned error.

I'm currently working on an XMPP app' on Android and I'm pondering about the best way to throw a different type of Exception than a RemoteException to my activity from my service.
As it seems impossible to throw another thing than a RemoteException using IPC (you can't declare to throw anything in your .aidl), I just see two solutions:
Create a listener for my activity to listen on my custom XMPP exception, which in fact will not be thrown but just sent as a usual object implementing the Parcelable protocol.
Catch my XMPPException and throw a RemoteException (with a content updated with my XMPPException) - But in that case, how could I know on my activity if it's an XMPP or a real RemoteException ? By tagging the name of the exception and parsing it on my activity ? It would be really gore.

I have two projects in Eclipse: service and UI client.
In onCreate in UI client I have:startService(new Intent(this, ExampleService.class));
But this fragment: ExampleService.class throws NoClassDefFoundError exception at runtime. I have installed ExampleService.apk, and ExampleUiClient.apk. Project compiles, and everything looks fine. What I am doing wrong?
Is it possible to start service from other apk?

I am getting IllegalArgumentException: Service is not registered when i try to stop my service by initially calling unbindservice and then stopService.
Before calling unbindService i first check if my service is still bound by checking (mBoundService - obtained from the ServiceConnection) I also check if the service is not stopped and only then i call the unbindService But I still get the error. From the posts that I read only I found out that both these calls are asynchronous and that the service will only stop when nothing is bound to it.

i have a BroadCastReceiver which will listen to incoming calls. and once the call is finish or users ignores the call i'm deleting the number from the CallLog. i have tested this with HTC TATTOO and it works fine there.but when i tested this with Motorola MilesTone i'm getting a exception.

What is the best way to deal with web services in Android? I have been looking at KSoap2 library and RESTful web services.
I got one working with KSoap2, but only when the web service is on a remote server, not on localhost. I have tried to redirect the ports for incoming and outgoing as it says on the android dev site, i have used the ip of the network i am on, my own ip and the localhost-ip (it says on the site that one cannot use localhost cause that is the emulators own loop-back network. None works.
With RESTful webservices, i have only tried a tutorial where a google app engine is used as server if i understood it right. Is it easy to connect a RESTful web service to a database. I need to have a database connection in my applikation, which one is normally used with REST?

I have been fed up of looking for a simple example of rest webservice connecting to Android Application. I know so many people have asked this question before, but there are so many different answers as a theory.
I know I must use restful web-service, rather than SOAP for mobile applications.
I need to create a webservice which is producing JSON, then in Android I can parse the JSON, but the problem is that as I am new to android I am looking for a simple example with both Server and client.

I'm developing a GPS tracking software on android. I need IPC to control the service from different activities. So I decide to develop a remote service with AIDL.This wasn't a big problem but now it's always running into the methods of the interface and not into those of my service class. Maybe someone could help me?If i now try to call a method from an activity for example start(trackId) nothing happens. The binding is OK. When debugging it always runs into the startTracking() in the generated ITrackingServiceRemote.java file and not into my TrackingService class. Where is the problem? I can't find anything wrong.

I am developing one application in which i am getting an exception, and i know this one is the silly or small mistake which i am doing but your help may catch me out and make my day:

In above code, if i make i=0 or i=1 in tryDemo function then it is running successfully , but if i make it other than 0 or 1 then it throws an exception as "Demo - Demo Exception".
I am not sure but i think the exception raises from getApplicationContext().

If I remove the "thread" part and wrote the whole function code in the button click event and replaced the "getApplicationContext()" with v.getContext() then it is running successfully.........but i want to implement it within the THREAD.

I hosted my service WCF (.net) using a windows service,i can access to the service from any browser but when i tried to call it from android it doesn't respond. it works fine before the hosting procedure (i used host client by default on Visual Studio).The url that i try to attempt is from android emulator, and installed my webservice in the same local machine(endpoints address http://localhost.).

When I add the following line to my GLSurfaceView class I get an IllegalArgumentException from some random place. I don't know where the problem is because it doesn't give a stack trace. set EGLContext Client Version(2); What else do I need to do to get an OpenGL ES 2.0 application to work? I have tested this with a completely empty renderer class (and also put breakpoints on every callback, and none of them get hit, indicating that the error occurs before my renderer even gets involved). Does anyone have a complete working example of how to get started with Android OpenGL ES 2.0 development? I have developed simple application of progress bar in that when I hit the button then it will do some work in background and one progress bar is visible on foreground. afte completing back ground work it display the same screen. It works fine if I don't rotate mobile but when I rotate mobile then it throws java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: View not attached to window manager
I know when we rotate the device or open keypad it starts activity restarted. But How to avoid this error. My code is.

When my app loads, I fill my android.app.Application with some data. The app runs fine as I use it and all the data is available. However, when I leave the app over night and look at it again the next day, I receive NullPointerExceptions when attempting to use that same data. I do not believe Application objects get garbage collected, so I have no idea what is going on? I also lose static objects in classes used by my Activity classes. First method: simply access the web service and get the result. This means freeze of UI until data is downloaded. Not a good solution
Second method: put the data download in a thread, and display a progress bar with a message.
