Android :: AwakenScrollBars() Not Showing ScrollBar In Custom View
Dec 2, 2009
I have a custom view. I am scrolling the view vertically using scrollTo (int, int). But the scrollbar is not showing when scrolling. I tried awakenScrollBars(). But its not drawing the scrollbar. I also put setVerticalScrollBarEnabled(true). Whether I am missing something here ?

Threre is a unique resquirement for my project.
I need to create a custom scrollbar for a listview.
I can do this task by setting drawable for scrolllbar.But that does not fulfill my requirement.
There are arrows in scrollbar drawable image and when clicked on them,particular list item should get selected.
So I need to use custom scrollbar for this requirement.

I made a small webpage with a scrollable div. When I load it in a browser, it works fine. But when I load it in a webview inside Android, it doesn't let me scroll the div. Is there a workaround for this or do I have to use a different design? I am talking about websites like this.

I have a Adapter View derived class (say GridLayout) in which I arrange views in a grid. When items in the grid exceed the height of the GridLayout( or screen) I want a scrollbar to appear. I have handled scrolling in onTouchEvent. But the problem is the scrollbars don't appear. I have set the vertical scrollbar to be enabled, but no use. The docs say the scrollbar appears every time the scrollTo or scrollBy methods are called.

I want to build my own custom view which should look like the Crysis-GUI.At first I designed a XML-based Layout and made it visible via the setContentView(int resid)-Method. Worked pretty well.But now I wan't to go a step further and draw in my Layout. So I created a new Class, let it extend View and overrode the onDraw()-Method. So far so good.But how can I still use my XML-Layout? I can't do setContentView anymore, so how could the same effect be achieved?

I have a custom view that works fine and I'm trying to get gestures into it. The most common technique I see is to add XML, such as this (from Android docs.Can someone point out my errors, suggest a better way that will allow me to get gesture callbacks and/or suggest diagnostic approaches?

Is there a way to have a view "always-showing" between activities? I say, I need a button to be always appearing on the bottom of the screen.
I could get it working with an ActivityGroup, but I got a problem. My application can work with more than one level of activities, or rather, Activity A can start acitivity B that can start Activity C, all them with the button showing in the bottom. When I press "Back", I need activity C to finish and the focus to go back to B, but as I'm using an ActivityGroup, it does not work.

I am on Android 2.1 and I have one multi column Custom listview Using BaseAdapter with an editable edittext at the end of the listview. If the data in the listview do not contain the data of user choice then user should be able to enter data. If the data is already there in the list user will be able to select the data using custom selector. If a selection is made in the list view and user wanted to enter data in the text field at the bottom after selection then the marker in the list view should be unselected. I tried to use onclick() method on edit text using click listener. First time when it is clicked, edit text is getting focus and onclick() method is not fired. And when it is clicked second time, onclick() method is fired and notifyDataSetChanged() method is called. I tried to call the notifyDataSetChanged() method from the Focus Listener, list view selection is gone in my first attempt and edit text is not receiving any data input from the keyboard (frozen).

I've created a custom view in an SQLite database for an Android application. I'm using Sqliteman on Ubuntu to test my SQL statements before I put them in my app. I'm trying to do a simple select statement on my view. I'm creating my own View class, and defining custom xml attributes with a attrs.xml. As long as I provide each attribute manually, there is no problem, but
code:...................
The android:text is properly set in my instance, but the borderDrawable is not. I guess this has something to do with namespaces, because inside the styles.xml, the name="mypack:borderDrawable" is not handled by the XML parser's namespace facility, because its inside an attribute value. So "mypack" is in no way connected to "http://some.weird.url.com/seems/not/to/ matter" and adding it via xmlns:mypack... to the stylefile would not help, I guess. In the same file, "android:text" is somehow recognized, even though "android" is AFAIK only a ns-defintion for [url], which is also not declared in that file.
So what is the proper way to set a custom attribute in a style?

I'm wondering how I can create a custom pop-up like the one in the screenshot below (borrowed from the Swype keyboard), where I can have a couple of buttons, which each commit a string to the currently "connected" TextView (via a InputConnection). Please note: this is an InputMethodService and not an ordinary Activity. I already tried launching a separate Activity with Theme:Dialog. However, as soon as that one opens I lose my focus with the TextView and my keyboard disappears (and with that my InputConnection is gone).

I tried the following after getting the WindowManager service, but it crashes at addView. I looked into the Toast class and found that it uses WindowManagerImpl which is not accessible publicly - is there any way to access the WindowManagerImpl functionality?

I'm attempting to use the Neucha font from Google Font Directory (link) in my Android app.
With other custom fonts, unsupported characters are still displayed, such as Japanese characters, as well as accented characters. However with the Neucha font, most unsupported characters (such as Asian ones) are displayed, but some accented characters (â, ã, ä, å, ą, ô, õ, ö, ő for example) are not displayed. Instead blank spaces are shown in their places.
Is this an issue with the font, or with Android? What can I do to get characters not supported by this font to be displayed using the default font in an EditText view?

I wonder it is possible to know whether SIP is showing to user or not. A user application(Activity) can show or hide the Soft Input through the Input Method Manager. There is some APIs to handle the SIP. But I can't find API to know status of SIP(it is on showing or hiding).
When SIP is showing to user. It disturbs the UI of the Activity. So Activity should know about the information related with upper case. How can I know that?

I made this video to show the difference between a stock Evo and one that has the FPS uncap via a custom kernel, in this case, netarchy-toastmod 4.1.7. See my sig for the kernel download link. I shot this at 60fps and 1080p in order to try to capture the difference in framerate before and after. 720p max on youtube. I believe it's the sharpest video out there showing off the difference. Look for two things: scrolling smoothness, and finger tracking. Tracking is the ability of the phone to keep the screen "stuck" to the finger. The better it does this, the better the tracking, and it makes the phone feel very responsive to your commands.
To many people, the difference is night and day. To some, they don't see/feel the difference. I find that hard to believe, which is why I made this video. The truth is out there.
TIP: Click on the video below and watch it from youtube. It's larger and sharper there.

I'm trying to create a custom titlebar in my app that looks like this (essentially):
For some reason, the icon shows up, but not the title text. It's really weird. For a split second you see the title text, but then it disappears and only the icon shows in the title.
My code is as follows:
==========================window_title.xml======== ==================
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<LinearLayout
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
androidrientation="horizontal"
android:layout_width="60px"
android:layout_height="60dip"
android:gravity="center_vertical"
[code]....

I just bought a Hero yesterday and had the Sprint store transfer my contacts from my AT&T sim card. Everything seemed to work fine except when he looked in the "people" icon, nothing was there. So after a few more tries I left. When I got home, I noticed that all my sim card contacts, including my Facebook contacts, were visible when I hit the "phone" icon. My question is, how do I get my contacts in the "people" icon? I want them on the first tab "all". I was able to get one of my contacts in the "favorites" tab but it takes too long to get there. I want to hit "people" and see all my contacts right away.

I'm writing my own custom view, a keyboard, which I think the ArrayList in the keyboard view is causing the application to quit in the emulator.
public static ArrayList<HexButton> hexButtons = new ArrayList<HexButton>();
The application ran fine when I did
setContentView(myKeyboardView);
But I want to nest my keyboard with a TextView so I'd like to be able to do
setContentView(R.layout.main);
