Android :: Droid SDK / AVD Manager Stalling During Download

Dec 3, 2009

I downloaded the Android SDK and AVD manager and began downloading the packages but every time I try the download stalls about 20% of the way through it. Before it stalls, it downloads very slowly (about 30kb/ sec). Some more details: I'm running on Windows XP. I've tried turning SSL on and off from within the manager. I've also tried running it within Eclipse and also from the command line. Is there a debug mode or something to figure out what its doing? I would also be willing to try debugging it myself if the source to the AVD manager is available. I found the following discussion on the slow downloads, but haven't found anything on the stalling issue. http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/browse_thread/threa.

Android :: WebView-based Browsers Accessing Protected Resources Through Oracle Access Manager -OAM

Oct 5, 2010

We have a website that makes use of OAM for single sign on (form-based authentication). When we submit credentials to WebGate / Access Server the authorization succeeds, however after the authentication is performed, the form action (as configured in the Authentication Scheme - with passthrough:no) returns a server error instead of redirecting to the originally requested URL.

If we use Mini Opera, we are able to get authenticated and forwarded properly.

This problem happens on numerous Android phones (versions ranging from 1.5-2.2), as well as the Emulator provided with the SDK.

This is proving to be a real problem as the default browser on Android phones is not able to get access to our sites(and this is the only browser that is having this problem).

I have created a WebView-based custom browser with the hope of seeing a client-side error and tried trapping every possible error....none show up....

I have tried to trace all of the http requests and found only a single difference in the requests... the http header for Connection:keep- alive is not sent by the Android WebView.

I have provided some tracing info below...

Android :: Develop An Application Pluging / That Could Access Application Sqlite

Nov 15, 2010

I want to add a big feature to an application i am developping, but as this feature interest few people and is quite independant from the main part, I would like to put that in a seperate "plugin" application.Does anyone knows any design patterns, snippets, "reference" examples about such design? In particular that separate plugin application should be able to access some tables in the main application DB. Is it possible to do that without broadcast receiver? - the main application uses a TabActivity: is it possible that a the tabactivity instanciates an Intent Activity that is part of the plugin? - does the plugin can access main application preferences (not sure this would be necessary, but better to anticipate the question!) is it possible from the plugin to access main applications ressources? At least the 2 first points are mandatory for me.

Android :: Can I Download An SQLite Db On / Sdcard And Access It From Droid App

Jun 28, 2009

I already found out that there is no way to bundle files in an .apk and have them on /sdcard, the best option so far being to download the large files upon first run. I came accross a tutorial saying how to bundle an sqlite db with the apk and then copy it so that it can be accessed with SQLiteDatabase (thus doubling the space needed, and not using /sdcard at all).

http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/data/data-storage.html#db says all databases MUST be in /data/data/package_name/databases.

Is that really so? Is there a way to trick the framework into opening a database that is placed on the /sdcard partition? Is there a way to use another SQLite java wrapper/framework to access such databases?

If the answer to the above is 'No', what other options do I have? My data is very well represented in a relational model, but is just too big, plus, I want to be able to update it without the need to reinstall/upgrade the entire app.

Android :: Any Way To Hide Certain Application Permissions / Inbuilt File Manager?

Jul 3, 2010

I was wondering, is there anyway a developer can hide or exclude a certain app permissions from being seen by Android market users? And are the permissions for an app controlled or regulated by Google? Another question I have - Is there anyway to restrict PDF files from opening in the default browser? This is a problem when I am on a search engine and accidentally click a link that's a pdf file- I don't want pdf's downloaded without asking me permission atleast. And my last question, is there a way to view current extensions that are installed in the browser.? Where is androids inbuilt file manager? Does uninstalling an application completely take off everything related to that app from your phone?
