We are using TextView's Ellipsize function to scrolling text in it and there many other controls in our window. We noticed CPU would go up to 50% if text started scrolling. After digging deeper, we found all controls in our layout kept drawing when texts scrolling. We wonder why? And how to avoid all controls redrawing?

I am using a header for a Listview. ListView header has three columns. Say a,b,c. I am using two LinearLayouts to design ListView header as shown below:

Now i want to fix the width of columns a, b, c respectively. How to set width of these columns ? Again, is it a good practise to use LinearLayout for this ? Please Advise.
I want to use the marquee effect on a TextView, but the text is only being scrolled when the TextView gets focus. That's a problem, because in my case, it can't.
I am using:
android:ellipsize="marquee"
android:marqueeRepeatLimit="marquee_forever"
Is there a way to have the TextView always scroll its text? I've seen this being done in the Android Market app, where the app name will scroll in the title bar, even if it doesn't receive focus, but I couldn't find this being mentioned in the API docs.
I use android:ellipsize="marquee" but just same speed.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIf I have 2 LinearLayouts split %50/%50 everything is fine. Weights are 1 and 1. As soon as I add a TextView inside the top LinearLayout, it stretches that layout. I use "wrap_content" as the documentation says I should when it comes to weights. As you can see the red and green should be split evenly and text on grey background should be inside red box.

Now if I switch to "fill parent" as follows it actually works but it creates another problem. Here is the code (so far so good):
So looking at above we were forced to use "fill_parent" and we would think like we fixed the problem but here is the problem if we are using "fill_parent" (I took out the textview just to show the problem, textview doesnt make the problem go away anyways):
As you can see I assign the weights 3 (top red) and 2 (bottom green) but what actually happens is they get flipped: The red becomes 2 and bottom becomes 3. Just measure the pixels too see.

I am using the following to create a layout that is inflated and used in a ListView. The text in the first TextView gets truncated but I do not get the "..." added as I expected. What do I not have set correctly? Or is this a known problem...

I have a couple questions on ellipsize on the TextView...
1) Is there anyway to get ellipsize to work on a multiline TextView? So that the ellipses are shown at the end of the text, rather than at the end of the line? If not what is the best way to handle this on my own?]
2) Is there any way to change the character used for eellipsize? For example, use "... [Read More]", this obviously coincides with question 1 above since one wouldn't want to take half of the single line to say read more, but on a multiline, it would be nice to be able to have like 3 or 4 lines and then a read more? Maybe there is a better way to do this that I haven't figured out yet?

Up until 1.6 the ellipsize attribute on my view above functions as I would expect. Since upgrading to 1.6 the ellipsize attribute, regardless of what I set it to (start, middle, end) seems to be ignored.
I want to get a set of Views to redraw after I change some drawing parameters. I'm calling invalidate() and forceLayout() on the parent of the Views but nothing happens. If I rotate the screen then the Views redraw correctly using the new parameters, as you would expect. What else do I need to do to get the Views to redraw?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a custom view that fills my entire screen. (A piano keyboard) When a user touches the key, it causes invalidate() to be called and the whole keyboard gets redrawn to show the new state with a touched key.
Currently the view is very simple, but I plan to add a bit more nice graphics. Since the whole keyboard is dynamically rendered this would make redrawing the entire keyboard more expensive.
So I thought, let's look into partial redrawing. Now I call invalidate(Rect dirty) with the correct dirty region. I set my onDraw(Canvas canvas) method to only draw the keys in the dirty region if I do indeed want a partial redraw. This results in those keys being drawn, but the rest of the keyboard is totally black/not drawn at all.
Am I wrong in expecting that calling invalidate(Rect dirty) would "cache" the current canvas, and only "allows" drawing in the dirty region?
Is there any way I can achieve what I want? (A way to "cache" the canvas and only redraw the dirty area?"

I have a horizontally oriented LinearLayout with width fill_parent containing two TextViews. The TextView on the right has variable width text, and I want the TextView on the left to adjust its size accordingly to as much width as possible. Essentially, the right TextView must always show all of its contents and the left TextView should extend as far as possible to the edge of the TextView on the right.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIt seems that a TextView inside a LinearLayout forces that LinearLayout to be larger. I am trying split my screen top 50% and bottom 50% and also the bottom 50% is split into 3 parts. So I did my weights 3 (for the top), and then 1, 1, 1 (for the bottom) for a total of 6.

As soon as I take out the TextView inside the first LinearLayout the splits are proper. The moment I put the TextView inside the top LinearLayout the top LinerLayout gets larger by the amount of the the TextView.

I have a vertical LinearLayout that contains a custom View that I've defined in my app and and a TextView. I'd like my custom View to be aligned on the top of the screen and the TextView to be aligned at the bottom of the screen. Unfortunately, no matter what changes I make to the attributes of the XML file, my custom View always seems to be centered vertically when I run the emulator. The xml is like the following:

how to detect the object I've clicked on within a LinearLayout which itself is a child window within a gridview. I've tried a few methods which I thought would work but none of them work. Within the gridview I can detect the correct child window (which in this case is the Linear Layout) but I cannot figure out how to detect the object within the LinearLayout itself.

I have an activity with a ListView which is populated through a custom ArrayAdapter. There is an array of objects which have a Boolean property called 'isRead'. Based on the value of this property, I want to set the typeface of one of the TextViews in the row to either 'normal' or 'bold'. I also set the color of the text to either 'gray' or 'black When the Activity initially starts up, everything works as expected. If isRead is true, the text is gray with a normal font.
