Android :: Why Does Keyboard-slide Crash My App?
Jun 11, 2010
If I physically slide out the keyboard on my Moto Droid A855, it crashes my test app with the stack trace pasted below. I don't understand why? Also, if I start my app with the keyboard out, my app crashes immediately on startup. The app consists of an activity, which contains a viewflipper as the main view layout. The viewflipper contains two linearlayouts..

I'm getting the G1 next weekend and am wondering how long until a virtual keyboard will be available. I really like the idea of having a full slide-out keyboard but I would also like a virtual one so if I'm not wanting to say much I can just use the virtual keyboard or if I'm in an area where it needs to be quiet I don't need to have the sound of the keyboard sliding open.

I developed an appwidget and published on market, it works very well on Cupcake. but after I upgrade my OS to Donut.Everytime when I slide out/in keyboard, I will got an error: The process android.process.acore has stopped unexpected. Please try again. I have to click "force close", and wait about 3 seconds to get the home screen. It seems my appwidget cause this error, because after I uninstall the appwidget, the error also gone. One of my user reported to me the same problem, he was sure it's my appwidget's problem, because he erase all application and install one by one to test which application cause the error, he found after he installed my appwidget, the error occurred again.

Okay, so after that commercial w/ that shiney new sliding keyboard on that samsung phone, I rushed to find a slide keyboard. I did. It was called SlideIT keyboard and it was ugly but performed SO well I kept it. Now they have a trial and it is annoying as hell and doesnt have dictionary saving unless you buy the new version.. I WOULD, but I cannot find it in the market. Nor can I find the other sliding keyboards.. I seem to be stuck .I upgraded to the 2.1 on my Eris.. do you think that's why I cannot find it?

I never use my physical keyboard. I would like a slim case to protect my phone and i don't care if the KB doesn't slide out at all. i would actually prefer it stay closed. Hard plastic or a soft silicone is ok with me. i have the soft rubber case around my work BB and it works perfect. I would love something like that for my droid. And i want one that doesn't raise too much over the screen. a coworker has a hard case for his iphone and it makes it hard to hit the touch screen on the borders. the case sits so high you have to put your finger or thumb almost verticle to touch the on screen keyboard.

Is there a setting that I'm missing or a tweak that would let me unlock my droid when i slide the keyboard open? i see no point in having to "slide to unlock" when i already had to manually slide the keyboard out. Mose sliders will unlock when you do so, was sad that the droid doesn't .

Anyone know why my slide out keyboard is suddenly typing two different letters when I type or why the space button is backspacing? I tried reflashing my phone with sprint's swupgrade tool. that didn't help. Anything else anyone knows that I can do?

I got my phone rooted and got velocity on the phone, but i noticed some issues within the first few days. the 50% bug seemed to get worse, before i could do the airplane thing and it would be good for about a week, now when i do it it will last less than a day and i cant get more than a day of battery life with not using my phone much at all, before i could get about 2 days with regular use.
when i slide the keyboard out an the screen switched to landscape the all the icons and widgets would disapear then re-appear about 15 seconds later, it does the same thing when closing the keyboard. some times it gets stuck and just flashes the screen with no icon or wigets and the only way i can fix it is rebooting the phone.
the flashlight app that comes with it works perfectly but when i close the app the notification lights keeps flashing and changing colors it wont stop untill i reboot the phone. everything else seems to be working fine for me. p.s. the ad blocking in the apps is a very nice addon

I want to have a View pop in at the bottom of the page exactly like the software keyboard view does in the compose section of the Mms app.It slides in from the bottom, as if it's being added to a vertically oriented LinearLayout, only making the ListView smaller. It becomes a part of the current layout instead of popping up over the top of it.I'd like to to this exact thing with my own custom View.

For those of you that are familiar with better keyboard. I was wondering about an easy way to switch from the t9 keyboard to the regular qwerty keyboard. I was under the impression that swiping left would toggle between the 2 but all that does is bring me to the numbers and symbols keyboard. I've been changing back and forth to the android keyboard because its faster than going into the better keyboard settings.

I tried it and it works so far.
Dev = ne0fhyk from XDA.
From the XDA forum: Link to app page = [APP][ROOT/Keyboard] Keyboard Manager - Dual keyboard: Portrait/landscape switch - xda-developers
Verbage:
Keyboard Manager allows you to customize what keyboard (input method) appear on input based on your phone orientation.
It displays the keyboards you have enabled on your android device, and let you select one per orientation (landscape/portrait).
As your phone switch orientation, the app automatically switch the keyboard.
Requirements:
- Rooted android device (app was tested on Samsung captivate 2.1)
- Root Explorer app, or similar app that allows you to edit the permissions of a file.
To install:
1- Download the app (KeyboardManager.apk) on your device sdcard.
2- Using Root Explorer, move the apk file to /system/app
3- Using Root Explorer, edit the file permissions like below:
-- User: 'Read/Write' checked
--Group: 'Read' checked
--Others: 'Read' checked
4- Exit Root Explorer
The app should be visible in your launcher as 'Keyboard Manager'
Update:
- Added option to disable notification icon
-' start on boot' feature is disabled because it's not yet complete and tested... Sorry for the confusion
Bugs:
-On certain applications (i.e: Messaging on Samsung Captivate), the input window occasionally freeze on orientation switch. Exiting the app, and resuming should fix it.
The app is still in development.

I tried to use VBO on 1.6 Android SDK and get a crash whenever I try to give the VBO id free using glDeleteBuffers. The issue has already been filed here: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=4273
Is there any way of giving a VBO id free, then? Otherwise I'm afraid that I can't use VBO because I might run out of graphics memory/buffer IDs.

Has anybody else here had any problems with the dialer app locking up when placing or trying to pick up calls? I returned my phone after the 5th time it happened. Just curious if anybody else has had this problem, as I want to wait until this is fixed before getting another G1.

I am experiencing a crash in my app when I quit (via the back button) out of my Activity. So far as I can tell this is happening in the Android codebase and not mine, but I'm not completely convinced of that.

My app is running into the following crash and I'm having a hard time diagnosing it. We have multiple background threads (including a couple pthreads started via JNI that are making calls back up to Java occasionally), but none of them are reporting errors . Any suggestions on how to go about isolating this? There are no symbols in libdvm, so I've been unable to figure out where the stack trace points. This has happened 3 times so far, with the same stack trace each time.

I built an app to show a ListView with different layout of each row within it. I extend BaseAdapter to construct my own adapter class and override its getView() method. In getView() method, I use
view = mInflater.inflate(mResource, parent, false); to obtain which layout xml file that be needed to generate different layout for each row.
After coding and running, the problem occurs. While I'm scrolling the list, this app crashes and pop-up an warning dialog that says "The application has stopped expectedly. Please try again."
If I use the same layout xml file to enable each row has the same layout, everything is all right. Does somebody has any ideas about that?
