In my layout, there is a TextView at the bottom of the screen. The problem is that when I click inside the text box to type something, the keyboard covers the text box as a result of which I am not able to see what's happening... Is there any solution for this? Here's my layout...

I want do uninstall some useless apps from /system.
I have super access, and the permission DELETE_PACKAGE in the manifest.
But when i run Runtime.exec("pm uninstall package") I get ERROR/AndroidRuntime(10981): java.lang.SecurityException: Neither user 10094 nor current process has android.permission.DELETE_PACKAGES.
Anyone know how to solve this?

I'm in the middle of developing a new soft keyboard. But I got trouble. When I input some text, my soft keyboard pops up and the background is resized, which is not an option I want. I'd like to force the background to keep its current state even though the keyboard pops up.

So at the minute I have something similiar to the first picture below where I have and EditText at the bottom of the screen and when a user taps the EditText I want the same as what happens in the second picture.
That is that the EditText gets moved up and appears to "sit" on top of the soft keyboard, when the soft keyboard dissapears it should then return to its prior state.
Can anyone let me know the best way to approach and implement this?
Is there any way to change the layout/look of the screen that pops up when someone calls you?

When the keyboard pops up though, it covers the submit button on the bottom. I can make the entire layout scrollable, but then you can scroll too far. How do I make it so that, when the keyboard is up, you can scroll down to see other information (like buttons, textviews, etc)?

View 20 Replies View RelatedI know this has been mentioned a hundred times...but...anyone else seeing the keyboard getting looser and looser? even when the phone is closed the top screen part seems to wiggle up and down and seems to be getting a bit looser then when I first had it...If you gently try to lift the top screen upwards away from the keyboard (while in closed position, the top screen moves away from the keyboard for me by about a 1/16th of an inch.
I know it sounds paranoid and I may just be being OCD, but is anyone else having this problem?
And before you say it I know slider keyboards often have this problem. I've had sliders before...I just don't recall if any of them got this loose this quick
Is there a way to specify in your layout which widgets will shift and move when the software keyboard appears? In some layouts, It will shrink the innermost scrolling area automatically, just making your layout smaller, but there doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason to when it does this. How can I tell it which widgets to shrink, etc?

I would like to map commands to keyboard keys if there is a hardware keyboard available, but the layout is very important. I have had users from Germany complaining that layout is not optimized for their phones (since the Y and Z keys are swapped). But whenever I bring up the soft-keyboard the button will be displayed above the keyboard. So, the search box is fixed to the bottom of the screen. But, when user clicks the EditText, Soft Keyboard shows up and pushes the layout out of the screen except the search box. I'm just starting out with Android, so am I doing anything wrong here??
I am designing an Android app and I'm having a couple of layout issues. I have a screen with 3 EditTexts on it in a row, and I would like for the 'next' key on the soft keyboard to cycle between the EditText fields. As for now, the 'next' key has no effect. Also, when the soft keyboard is displayed, it covers up the third of the EditTexts. Is there any way to push up the layout in the event that the soft keyboard is drawn?

View 1 Replies View Relatedso hopefully this question/problem isn't as simple/dumb as my previous.I've somehow messed up my keyboard settings or language. the bottom right and bottom left buttons now have some Chinese/Japanese text on them and the bottom left button turns on some alternative keyboard options and changes my text output to Japanese.Now I presumed this was simply something in my language settings but I've set them back to UK and still no joy.I'm also using Handcent sms and the Handcent keyboard ui but that's not displaying either. Tried un-install/reinstall but no luck.

I have just purchased the X10 handset and on a whole I'm really pleased with it. My previous handset was an N97 - rubbish! Anyway, since playing with the phone, could you answer these for me as I'm new to Android and don't really know what I'm doing.
1) On the mentu's, text screen, etc. It has a blue background and white writing. Is there anyway to change this? I have an eye condition and blue isn't the best colour for me to read from. I was looking for something like theme settings but there isn't one.
2) Is there a keyboard application that is like the normal alphanumeric layout on phone keypads ie to get the letter b you press the number 2 twice. I believe the HTC Desire has this option and old Nokia N97 that the feature.
3) I've read on another thread about the ringing volume and earpiece volume being low and turning up the volume to max makes the earpiece sounds quality pop/crackle. I've experienced this too but does anyone know if there is a firmware update out to rectify this?
4) I've also read that Android 2.1 is due out for this handset. Does anyone know when it's out, or if it is already out, where do I download it from?
Is there and IM app that has the same functionality of the windows Yahoo! IM in that it can allow you to appear either online or invisible by a selected contact (i.e. so you can appear available to some people and offline/ invisible) to others without modifying your contact lists or having to create multiple accounts? I currently have meebo and mundu IM but I don't believe either has this ability.

Since a number of users have reported being unable to find the app on Market since upgrading to 2.1, I have researched the issue and copy protection seems to be the culprit. Turning off copy protection is the answer, but it seems that it leads to file access problems and can require a reinstall, which is not a very good user experience.
However, this ought to have been fixed in 1.6 which means I should be able to turn off copy protection and everything is ok. But some people have still encountered this issue and their users had to reinstall. So, my question is this, if I turn off copy protection, will all users have to reinstall the app? Will only 1.5 users have to reinstall (30%)?
Believe me, I am not trying to create an invisible AlertDialog. But I believe I have one. I'm not making this up. Behavior: main activity starts and is completely unresponsive. No dialog appears. No Force close/ANR appears even after much time in this state. But if I push the back button, it becomes responsive again. This does not occur when debuggable is true in the manifest, so I can't investigate using the debugger. But I found out the following with log statements. MainActrivity:OnCreate starts another activity, a welcome screen. Main Activity: OnResume is called while the other activity is visible. OnResume creates the dialog and calls dlg.Show(); WelcomeActivity is dismissed. MainActivity:OnResume is called. The OnResume method is smart enough to note that the dialog has already been shown and does not create it again. MainActivity is unresponsive. No dialog in sight. When I push the back button, a log statement confirms that the OnCancelListener is called on the dialog. This is Nexus One with 2.2.1. As cool as an invisible dialog is, I'd rather not have it. Can I fix it?
