Android :: Way To Use XML View Declaration As Definition?
Sep 9, 2010
I want to create an android Layout of which I want to instantiate several copies. I understand that declaring the layout in an XML will create a single instance. Is there a way to use the XML View declaration as a 'definition' rather than a 'declaration' ? Or is it possible to clone a view?

I'm having a bit of trouble with an Android app that I'm working on (mostly for practice and learning purposes) that uses the AudioManager object.
When defining the AudioManager as follows, however, the app crashes when I run it:
CODE:................
When I simply comment out the AudioManager declaration, the app does not crash. Any ideas as far as what I'm doing wrong? I'm a bit of a beginner to Android development, so I have a feeling that I'm missing something obvious.
I've also tried adding the android.permission.MODIFY_AUDIO_SETTINGS and android.permission.MODIFY_PHONE_STATE permissions to the AndroidManifest.xml file, but that has made no difference.

I accidentally imported a resource file with a capital letter in the name (SDK 8) and as we all know, that corrupts the R.java file in a way that rebuilding the project doesn't fix (I renamed the file to something legal from within Eclipse, of course). So now the build chokes with the error above when it hits the first xml file in res. In SDK 7 the only fix was to build a fresh project and move everything over. I'm hoping there is something better in SDK 8.

I'm just wondering...on Android Web, I could find two completely opposite ways of defining which direction the positive X acceleration is. http://developer.android.com/reference/android/hardware/SensorEvent.html At the bottom, it says "When the device lies flat on a table and is pushed on its left side toward the right, the x acceleration value is positive. " However, http://developer.android.com/reference/android/hardware/SensorListene..., it says "When the device is pushed on its left side toward the right, the x acceleration value is negative (the device applies a reaction force to the push toward the left) "

I'm trying to figure out exactly how to interpret the rotation angles produced by a Sensor Event for Sensor.TYPE_ORIENTATION. Unfortunately, the documentation (http://developer.android.com/reference/android/ hardware/Sensor Event.html#values) doesn't give a complete definition of it. It defines what the axes are, but doesn't specify what order the three rotations are applied in, nor whether the later rotations are around transformed or untransformed axes. Without knowing that, it's impossible to know what the actual rotation is that's being described.

I resolved this issue myself. It turns out that the activation framework requires some libraries that aren't native to android, myjava.awt.datatransfer, org.apache.harmony.awt.*, and org.apache.harmony.misc. Once i added those libraries everything worked fine. Code...

I am using official android facebook SDK (downloaded from here: http://github.com/facebook/facebook-android-sdk). When the program reaches the line Facebook facebook = new Facebook(); i get "java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com.facebook.android.Facebook". I created a facebook project from sources downloaded and in my project I added the facebook project in buildpath (in Eclipse right click on my project -> Properties -> Java build path -> Projects -> add projects -> I choosed the facebook project). The project builds ok, I have no errors.

In Eclipse, when I mouse hover over a built-in method, it displays a method definition including stuff like what the method does, input objects, return objects etc. If I have a yellow line (warning) under the method I'm trying to use, I can't get the mouse-over to show the definition. If I try hitting F3, I get a "The Jar of this class file belongs to container "Android 1.6" How do I show the definition of the method I am using when there is a warning?

I've been using Pandora since its inception. One of my favorite stations has always been Steve Miller band. Its always played what you would expect: 70s music. But lately its been stepping out of that decade and playing bands like smashing pumpkins and chili peppers. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm digging it, but found the sudden changes to be unexpected. Other stations have been doing the same. Has anyone else noticed the changes? If so, are they good choices, or do you find yourself hitting thumbs down quite a bit?

I am trying to set up a ViewFlipper that changes a SlidingDrawers content each time a button is pressed. So far every view I set up worked fine, but now I am trying to create a ListView (including single_choice_mode) within a child view of the ViewFlipper, but my attempt only let to a NullPointerException. As I only discovered ViewFlipper today, I am not yet familiar with it and may not have understood it completely. if someone could give me a hand and help me find out what I have done wrong, that would be great. Here is what I have done:
The code for the onClick event of the ImageButtons:
public void onClick(View v){
if (v == btnExposure){
mFlipper.setDisplayedChild(0); }
else if (v == btnProperties){
mFlipper.setDisplayedChild(1);}
else if (v == btnSpecialEffects){
mFlipper.setDisplayedChild(2);.............

I want to build my own custom view which should look like the Crysis-GUI.At first I designed a XML-based Layout and made it visible via the setContentView(int resid)-Method. Worked pretty well.But now I wan't to go a step further and draw in my Layout. So I created a new Class, let it extend View and overrode the onDraw()-Method. So far so good.But how can I still use my XML-Layout? I can't do setContentView anymore, so how could the same effect be achieved?

So my layout looks basically like this:
<ScrollView>
<RelativeLayout>
<BunchOfViews/>
<ImageView android:layout_alignParentBottom="true"/>
</RelativeLayout>
</ScrollView>
I have the ScrollView so all of the layout always is visible no matter the height of the screen. The problem is that on a very high screen, I still want my imageview to be at the bottom. However, a child of a ScrollView dont seem to have a defined bottom. The View is placed at the top of the layout. How can I solve this problem in a neat way?

I have an XML layout with some custom tabs, a heading, and a ProgressBar(main.xml). I wish to add another XML layout(home.xml) to the main.xml layout, as i wish to keep main.xml re-usable for other activity's layouts and simply add things to it as necessary.The problem: after inflating R.layout.home into rootLayout, it seems as though the ProgressBar contained in rootLayout is hidden underneath the content of home.xml.Is there a way to tell certain views(via XML) to float above other views when the layout is constructed in this way?if not, am i forced to use methods such as progressBar.bringToFront() to raise targeted views to the top?what alternatives do i have in z-ordering views when some layouts are constructed using inflation?

I have a WebView inside the ScrollView. The content of WebView dyanamically changes when it displays different html page. I have the following issue: For example I have A.html, and B.html. The content of B.html is larger than A.html, so the page is longer. When WebView load B.html, the ScrollView stretches its size to enable itself scroll for B.html, then if I go back to A.html, ScrollView doesn't resize itself. (The scroll area is exceed the content of A.html) What I want to have, is dynamic change the scroll area of scroll view to fit the webview's content.

I have a selection for some items using a spinner widget. At the moment the spinner will load a simple Textview and show the name of the item.It is possible to define an own view to show inside the spinner row? I would suspect it being similar to a custom List row.I simply want to show an individual icon left from the spinner text for each item in the list.

I want to have a View pop in at the bottom of the page exactly like the software keyboard view does in the compose section of the Mms app.It slides in from the bottom, as if it's being added to a vertically oriented LinearLayout, only making the ListView smaller.It becomes a part of the current layout instead of popping up over the top of it.I'd like to to this exact thing with my own custom View.

I have a problem statement, and here it is: My requirement is: There are a number of images shown on the screen. I want to allow the user to drag and drop any of the images to anyother image. Based on which image is dragged and on which is it dropped, I need to do something specific. So, I need to find a way so that I can get my source view and my target view.To understand this in a better way, consider a practical scenario. In the File Explorer of Windows, we can drag and drop items from the left pane showing the directory tree to any of the folders shown in the right pane.If anyone of you ever faced a similar scenario, please let me know because I could not find a direct support to such a thing (Drag and Drop) in the platform, so may be I need to find an innovative solution to it.

I've tried to add a TextView before a ListView in a LinearLayout. The result is that the ListView wont show at all. The same thing happens if I put the TextView after the ListView, but then I will only see the ListView. Is there a way to get a text view above the ListView without to much of a hassle?
