Any idea how do I show the kernel messages to user? One way is to install terminal emulator and then 'dmesg'. But I want to write an app which shows the kernel messages to the user. Is it possible?

The kernel messages are stored in /proc/kmsg.
Is it possible for me to display these messages through an application?
I want to just select certain messages and display it.
Is it possible for me to search kmsg and select only some messages to display?

But i am getting a VerifyError Exception as soon as i run my code.is it possible to do this on android? If yes, then how do i do that? View 4 Replies View RelatedMy Vibrant just crashed with this message, "user fault not kernel panic upload mode". All I was doing was updating a word document using the application FREETHINK which comes with the phone. I pulled the battery out and restarted, and went to do the same thing I was trying to do before the crash and it crashed again.I looked this message up online using "google". There isn't much. People seem to think it has to do with GPS, and it seems like it's a reoccurring problem, which factory reset will not fix. I'm switched back to my Blackberry, incase that it does reoccur. And I will call T-Mobile I guess or maybe try restarting again, and see if it crashes again doing something different other than FREETHINK.Not panicking yet.Anyone else experiencing this problem?I hope it doesn't reoccur,I'll let you know.

If it's set to an appropriate location and zoom level to see traffic none is shown after it's first created until you interact with the map (click on it, drag, etc) at which point traffic shows up. Naturally I want traffic to show up without any user interaction after it loads but I've been unable to figure out how to trigger it. Any ideas?

I've been trying to show a "Do you want to exit?", type dialog when user attempts to exit an activity. However can't find the appropriate API hooks. Activity.onUserLeaveHint() initially looked promising, but I can't find a way to stop the activity finishing.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am writing an application in which i need to handle messages between the main thread(the deafult UI related thread) and the user created Gamethread.
The requirement is like this.
An activity(say "Activity_X") is setting the view by "setContentView(some "View_Y")". In "Activity_X" i have implemeted "onCreateOptionsMenu()" and "onOptionsItemSelected()" fucntions for creating menus & a switch case for action to be taken on selecting those menus.Menu has items like "resume/pause/zoom/" .
All action to be take on selecting these menus are implemented in "View_Y" in a separate Gamethread by extending "Thread" class.
So whenever a menu is selected in "Activity_X" i need to send a message to "View_Y". And on receiving this ,a particular action/method should be called in View_Y(GameThread).
How can i achieve this using Handlers?Is there any other way of doing this? Please do share with me some code snippets for these.
Instead of the default apps (such as gmail or text messaging), I use k-9 mail and handcent and as such, have gmail set to not receive email, and text messaging to not use notifications. Is there any way to have LP show unread mail or messages with non-standard apps? If so, how?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI do have a few questions about the phone. i was wondering if there is a way to make text messages alerts show up on my screen. i have an app that shows if i have one unread but it is pretty small. every other phone i've had had a pretty big notification for texts. also is there a way to have the screen light up when you get a text? there is a sound that plays when i get a text, but the screen does not light up. not sure if im just missing something, but is there a way to set different tones for different notification? right now the same thing plays when i plug my phone in, that plays when i get a text. none of these are huge issues, but i am just curious if there is a way to make some changes on the phone. im sure ill figure it out or just get used to it.

Seems silly that anyone could read your messages even if the phone is locked.
where I have got right now on my phone, which is:
1. I updated to stock 2.1 using the sprint update tool.
2. I followed the video tutorial to root the phone
3. then i used joey's page (http://www.joeyconway.com/sdx/custom/index.php) to install the his kernel (joeykrim-SDX-kernel v2.0.4 (includes root)).
I have done nothing else to the phone but this and removing a couple of bloatware apps (i checked the list of permitted deletions before i removed anything.) I have not installed a new recovery..at least i dont think that I did as part of one of the other operations I performed (as an aside, i am not really sure what the custom recovery is or what it is used for, so i didnt install it...i guess i need to read up more...)
So that is where I am..but i have a couple of questions.
1) i am now having issues with my wifi connection - the signal reception is very spotty in areas where i should have atleast 2 bars of reception, and the wifi often cuts out completely....Is there any know corellation between joey's kernel and this wifi issue? I have searched the forums and have found nothing that answers this.
2) Is there an easy way to get back to the stock kernel? I have read that i can get back to stock everything by using the sprint download center where I did my original 2.1 update. But is there a way to get back to just the stock kernel without wiping the phone?

So I have returned back to the stock Message app for SMS mainly because no other app has a photo next to each message like the stock one does.
But I was wondering if there is a way to control how many messages show up in each conversation? Like, say I am having a conversation with Bob. When I open up our conversation, it shows EVERY SINGLE message between us two, all the way from our very first text. And so scrolling and browsing through our conversations can get laggy.
Is there anyway to just show the recent messages in the conversation? I know in ChompSMS, it automatically does that, and if you scroll to the top of the conversation, theres an option to "show older messages."

When I get emails like this, I have to click on "Show HTML" or "Show Picture" every single time an email comes in if I actually want to see the email the way it was intended to be shown. I know for a fact that iphones and other email readers dont have any issues with this. Is there a setting to automatically display the email the way it was meant to be shown instead of having to click these buttons each time I want to view the email correctly? Or, perhaps there's already a market app that forces the android email client to display emails correctly?
