Samsung Moment :: Joeys Kernel And Get Stock Kernel Back

Jun 11, 2010

where I have got right now on my phone, which is:

1. I updated to stock 2.1 using the sprint update tool.
2. I followed the video tutorial to root the phone
3. then i used joey's page (http://www.joeyconway.com/sdx/custom/index.php) to install the his kernel (joeykrim-SDX-kernel v2.0.4 (includes root)).

I have done nothing else to the phone but this and removing a couple of bloatware apps (i checked the list of permitted deletions before i removed anything.) I have not installed a new recovery..at least i dont think that I did as part of one of the other operations I performed (as an aside, i am not really sure what the custom recovery is or what it is used for, so i didnt install it...i guess i need to read up more...)

So that is where I am..but i have a couple of questions.

1) i am now having issues with my wifi connection - the signal reception is very spotty in areas where i should have atleast 2 bars of reception, and the wifi often cuts out completely....Is there any know corellation between joey's kernel and this wifi issue? I have searched the forums and have found nothing that answers this.

2) Is there an easy way to get back to the stock kernel? I have read that i can get back to stock everything by using the sprint download center where I did my original 2.1 update. But is there a way to get back to just the stock kernel without wiping the phone?

Android :: Initializations Repo By $ Repo Init - U

Jun 6, 2009

I am using Virtual Box with KUbuntu Linux on x86(Windows XP) system and setting up system for Android Source SDK. I have installed repo through (curl http://android.git.kernel.org/repo >~/bin/repo). Now I am trying to initialize repo by $ repo init -u git://android.git.kernel.org/platform/manifest.git but here I am getting an error shown as follows:

Traceback (most recent call last): File "/home/tirtha/mydroid/.repo/repo/main.py", line 235, in <module> _Main(sys.argv[1:]) File "/home/tirtha/mydroid/.repo/repo/main.py", line 217, in _Main repo._Run(argv) File "/home/tirtha/mydroid/.repo/repo/main.py", line 123, in _Run cmd.Execute(copts, cargs) File "/home/tirtha/mydroid/.repo/repo/subcmds/init.py", line 218, in Execute self._SyncManifest(opt) File "/home/tirtha/mydroid/.repo/repo/subcmds/init.py", line 123, in _SyncManifest m.PreSync() File "/home/tirtha/mydroid/.repo/repo/project.py", line 1440, in PreSync cb = self.CurrentBranch File "/home/tirtha/mydroid/.repo/repo/project.py", line 271, in CurrentBranch b = self.work_git.GetHead() File "/home/tirtha/mydroid/.repo/repo/project.py", line 1226, in GetHead fd = open(path, 'rb') IOError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/home/tirtha/ mydroid/.repo/manifests/.git/HEAD'

I have try to go to the mentioned folder and it looks like /home/ tirtha/mydroid/.repo/manifest.git/HEAD rather '/home/tirtha/ mydroid/.repo/manifests/.git/HEAD'. Can anybody suggest me the reason of the error and any solution for this.

How To Compile Android Kernel

Oct 9, 2011

I tried to compile Android kernel. There are a lot of errors in below log. I don’t know the cause of it.

I tried to change

Quote:

ifneq ($(filter $(LOCAL_MODULE_TAGS), optional),)

to

Quote:

in build/core/base_rules.mk and had other errors.

Android :: Way To Debug Kernel Code?

Sep 10, 2010

I've got some trouble with the media backend (mostly Stagefrightplayer) in Android, and I'd like to understand why it throws the errors it does. The errors are usually device spesific, so debugging on an emulator wouldn't be sufficient.

Example:

CODE:.................

Example 2:

CODE:.............................

I've also gotten the player to bork completely and spit out a traces.txt.

Is there a way to debug what's happening, just like I debug Java code?

General :: Android Kernel Optimization

May 8, 2013

What sections of kernel code are changed for optimization of performance.

Like we can change
1) the minimum free memory that android need to keep free.
2) Rate of clearing cache
3)Advanced LMK- where we can kill more than one process at at time when memory scarcity occurs.
4) Reducing logging.
5) In framework we can change the oom_adj value of important processes.
6) Implement Zram for kernel.
7) change the minimum and maximum no of process for AMS.

I want to know all the changes that can be made into kernel or framework code to optimize performance. I also want to know how can we implement swapcache for android kernel. What changes do i need to make in the code.

Android :: Drivers Removed From Mainstream Kernel?

Feb 4, 2010

Why isn't Google playing nice with regards to the Linux Kernel Android code? Greg KH says the Android code is stagnant and as a result got removed recently: http://www.kroah.com/log/linux/android-kernel-problems.html

I know for a fact Greg KH bends over backwards to help Linux Kernel developers maintain their code, so hearing this news about the Android drivers being removed is very troubling. Hearing about all the hardware companies that now cannot get their own Android drivers into the main kernel is the worst of it. Google seems fairly evil lately, but everyone who should care (fellow Android developers, I'm looking at you) seems to just want to put their hands over their ears and sing "la la la la".

Android is not being handled in the true spirit of open source, and Greg KH's assessment of the situation is even more proof of that fact.
