Default spinners on the iPhone look a lot better than on Android. It looks like at least one Android app (UrbanSpoon) has been able to replicate this control, and it's awesome: http://www.urbanspoon.com/android Anyone have any ideas on how to create this?

I am trying to create 2 different spinners in my main layout. This is how it works. Let's say the 1st spinner shows the different continents (e.g. America, Asia, Europe, etc.). Assume a user chooses Asia in the 1st spinner. My question is, how to make 2nd spinner to communicate with the 1st spinner? Meaning, the 2nd spinner is suppose to display the countries inside Asia (e.g. China, Korea, Singapore, etc.) due to Asia was chosen in the 1st spinner.

This layout scrolls left/right very smoothly, and only loads the weather as you scroll.
HorizontalScrollView cant be used because it loads everything in memory, so not a good idea. Gallery will be similar to the iphone, but it has many problems when you put ListViews inside it, so also not good.
Is there any other layout like that? or do I have to build my custom layout? In case it must be custom, do you know any site/app/code where they have done something similar?
I want to create a better NumberPicker then the one used in DatePicker, I looked at the HTC Sense Alarm clock Roller (Looks like the iPhone Spinner/Roller). I want to create something like that.
I've created a listView that looks right, but I need a way to get the current id of the middle row. ListView.getFirstVisiblePosition() kind of do what I want but it will give me +-1 errors. Another problem is that the scrolling should lock into a certain row when "dying" out. These are of couse related and I hope I can solve this by using a custom ListView, but it's hid in the API
Any thoughts on how to solve this?
I want to be able to make an iphone and android app using php. I have looked at phonegap and appcelerator and it seems like only html and javascript can be used. These frameworks want to make it easy to make apps using web technologies and PHP i would argue is one of the biggest web technologies, but I'm not seeing much (if any) support. I am new, so I could be wrong on multiple levels. So please enlighten me and let me know if what I am trying to achieve is possible.

I was previously flashed with Fresh 1.1 and was using LockBot, but when i tried it with Fresh 2.0d i started have some issues, so.... is there any way to create lockscreens that are like the ones that are lockbot? (i.e. Flan, Eclar, Iphone)
I know in the [Guide] Creating Custom Lockscreens there's discussions about adding a tutorial for 2.1 roms, but nothing yet.
This is a general architectural question. I want to offer a user a simple two page form. The first page will have a few Spinners for the user to select options from. The second page will have a series of EditTexts for the user to fill in. After the second page, the user clicks a button to generate a text file based on the values they have input. My question is: What is the best way to handle preserving the data from the spinners on the first page of the form, in order to place them into the text file? I feel like the "architecture" should be something like this: 1. User selects Spinner values on first page and clicks button to move to next page of form.. 2. Spinner values are placed in database 3. User fills in EditTexts on second page. Clicks button to generate text file. 4. Database is queried for Spinner values, which are added to newly created text file, then EditText values are added Does this strategy make sense? Does anyone have advice on a better way of handling the gathering of two pages of form input then using it to create a text file? The user would need to be able to flip back and forth between the form pages as needed.

But I want the options to cover only some part of the screen(ie.. width). By using LayoutParams I am able to change only the spinner icon width but not the options width. I even searched for it,but of no use. Any one help me, I need it very badly.

I can't get any spinners to compile. What usually happens is the resource file disappears. I am using the tutorials from the Android site.
Everyone seems to say that resource files disappear when there is an xml error. Everything looks right according to the tutorial. The error is in the xml line android:text="@string/planet_prompt". I can't move on in my project without getting spinners to work.
I am trying to figure out how to achieve a tab bar look and feel like the one provided in the iOS for android applications? I am using the normal one but it makes my application to look old school. I would like to achieve the same visual experience as the image below:

I have a question about Spinner widget in android. All works well except that when I change device with small screen Spinner widgets are overlapped. Is there good practice with managing of sizes of Spinners? In runtime or during design of layout?

Iīve added those spinners to my layout without editing most of itīs properties and this way it works for most of my users. Unfortunately most isnīt all and then some of them started complaining that the list of options is showing text in white with over a white background! Iīd like to know if thereīs a way (or a property) so I can force those spinners to show the options list using text in black.

I still have yet to figure out how really this phone is the "same" or compares to the IPhone ... in simple ways of application use, I still see my friends on their I Phones talking to millions of people with in a 5 mile range to a 100 mile range on all these social applications.With also that in talk of Applications why is it when i try to get a NEW! or POPULAR! application I have the wrong OS I am starting to think I should of held out for the Nexus unlocked cause I think that is the only one you can get that does everything. I was really hoping for a socialized phone not a traveling phone. I will say it is handy ,when you go into the store to compare prices or when you go on a long trip finding restaurants,gas stations and such but the I phone helps everyone connect and thats what I really would like to see a SOCIAL app for ALL android USERS together!

View 1 Replies View Relatedi last week took a HTC hero out on contract and switched from my iphone 3g, which i loved dearly reason being i wanted to use spotify to its full potential without having to shutdown etc.It's definately the best decision i ever took, i absolutely love the android platform and would recomend anyone else thinking of doing the same. A few question thought i have about the Hero;
1) battery life, seems pretty short? can i buy a better battery without having ot change the back cover? I like the idea of being able to carry a spare?
2)When on the internet/browser it always opens pages zoomed in, i find it pretty hard to use compared to the iphone, can i set it so that it open the page like a normal pc/iphone?
3)And how do i know i'm getting a 3g signal ?

When a group message is sent between my co-workers, who are all iphone users, and myself (Note 3), one person in the exchange does not receive the text. This is not the common iMessage issue that was plaguing me when I made the switch from Apple to Android. This is specifically affecting one iphone user. When I send her a text individually it is not a problem. The other iPhone users don't have a problem receiving or sending to me.

When I link directly to the file on the iPhone and the user taps the link, the video player is loaded and the video starts playing. Using the app on an Android phone causes the browser to download the video instead of just playing it. Is there a way to force a video player to just boot up and play the video not download it?
