View 2 RepliesI want to create an application that can be interactive with another Android device that could be across the room or across the country. For example, imagine playing Tic-Tac-Toe; but I'm the X's on my phone and the O's are my brother on his Android phone. I think it can be done via application specific messaging. Looking to see if it is possible, and, if so, how to send a message from one application to another on another device.

View 7 Replies View RelatedMy problem is this, I downloaded Handcent and really like it, however, I can't send messages from home. I have marginal service here (around -98 avg.) but I do get 3G. Whenever I send a message it says Message Failed - Retry, Cancel? I've even had this problem in places with great coverage for both 3G and cell service. The stock messaging app works just fine. So what I've been doing is receiving messages with Handcent and then sending them using the stock app.
So, does anyone have any ideas of what I can do? Are there any settings that can be changed? Does handcent use 3G to send messages?
I'm now trying Chomp to see if that's any better. And, just an FYI, I'm having trouble with text messages, not MMS. I haven't tried sending any pics or videos yet, I've just been sending SMS.
I have a tablet that made in China,I couldn't find any ROMs for it. How can I port android to this device ?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI would like to be able to generate unique serial numbers for each Android device for use in unlocking an application. How could I do this? EDIT: The reason is I want to revamp a paid application and provide users who have paid for the old version, which will have a different package name, a way to obtain the full version by downloading an unlikable free version of the application. I would push an update to the old version that would generate and display the code that they could enter to turn the Free version into a fully functional version.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm stuck on trying to change system settings that are not standard android ones, specifically trying to enable/disable the auto backlight setting on the HTC Hero in code,
I can't see anyway to find out the string I need to use when doing Settings.System.get.
Please point me at the best call manager, whitelist, firewall app that will let me add a specific number and then send them to voicemail.
View 21 Replies View RelatedI noticed that once I use my sd card (with pics and videos already on there) on my hero, it adds more folder areas. For example, I now have a folder called All pictures and My pictures with the same pictures. Is there a way I can just have all my pictures in 1 folder? And also have my camera shots in the same folder if I want to?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just finished reading the docs on Google's new Android License Verification Library. I often give out free copies of my applications to beta testers. I don't, however, want the beta testers to share the app with their friends. What's the best way to give out a device-specific license free version? From what I can tell I will need to create a custom policy and then maintain a list of authorized devices/accounts in my own backend that I can check. Is that what other devs are doing?
View 6 Replies View RelatedMy .apk file is confirmed working, however for users of the Motorola Milestone (which runs the same android version 2.0 and up) they receive the error upon attempt to install. I've googled and searched through the other questions here. The error seems to normally only appear if you did something wrong in the signing wizard or renamed the file. Is it possible that some kind of software difference on the OS build on these Milestones is preventing the install?

I can controll my light with infrared and it would be awesome to automatically turn the lights on at a slow pace in the morning!
My phone is a LG G2
I come from the Samsung Moment where there was an option to send specific callers/contacts directly to voicemail without the phone ringing. I've been messing with my new Epic, but can not find this feature for the life of me. Surely it's there somewhere. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
View 3 Replies View RelatedIn general, Are most of Custom ROMs device specific?
My problem is: If i buy an android mobile which is not popular, can i upgrade to new Custom ROMs?
For Upgrading Custom ROMs, do we need PC suite applications or any other application from the vendor? The mobile i am planning to buy has no vendor support.
I am looking for compile AOSP Gingerbread for Galaxy ACE 2.
- I am a software programmer
- I have experience with linux
- I know how to compile a basic AOSP rom
but i am struggling with specific device drivers and configuration files.
I'm working on a project that includes a test system for OEM devices. The supporting infrastructure is complete, however I'm having difficulties getting ROMs to run on the emulator. Of course the AVDs generated by the SDK work fine, but my next step is to run a binary intended for an OEM device. I understand that the emulator would require different drivers than a physical device, so I can't simply drop the same binary onto it and expect it to run.
Tweaking the AVDs generated by the SDK is about the limit of my knowledge. I've looked into pulling the system.img and other partitions from the ROM with ones from the emulator, but that doesn't work since the emulated hardware doesn't match what the drivers expect. I assume some modifications to qemu and some reverse engineering of the OEM ROM might be required to obtain my goal.
Assuming I have access to the binaries (but not the source) used by an OEM to construct their ROMs, what would be involved to obtain an emulator that matches the physical device, so I can run the compiled ROM on the emulator?
I want to keep specific songs from different albums on my device for offline play, but i cant figure out how to do it, if its at all possible.
When i go to my library on my nexus 4 i can press the menu button on an album and keep on device but if i go over to the right to songs to see all the individual songs and press the menu button i dont have the option to keep individual songs on the device.
I'm looking for a notepad app that, well, looks like an actual notepad. I'm currently using AK Notepad cu z I like how the notes are written on note looking paper, but when you open up the application, all the titles of your notes are just displayed in a black screen. I'm kinda looking for an app, like let's say I put: "stuff to buy," I want the title to also be written on notepad paper, and then when I click on it, the info of my notes will also be written on notepad paper.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI listen to Pandora in my car via Bluetooth every time I go somewhere. It's slightly annoying to have to launch the app every time. I'm wondering if there's an app out there that will automatically launch a program when my phone is paired with a specific device (like the Pioneer deck in my car).
I'd like my music to start up automatically when I start my car.
I want to center the application title/label in my android app but I can't find a lot of documentation on how to set that property. I have found a couple of posts saying that I can create a custom title bar and change the theme in my manifest but I just can help think there is a simpler way to just center the title.
I am trying to send an MMS message like this --
Intent sendIntent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_SEND); sendIntent.putExtra("sms_body", "hello world"); sendIntent.setType("vnd.android-dir/mms-sms"); sendIntent.putExtra(Intent.EXTRA_STREAM, Uri.fromFile(new File (url))); // I have tried Uri.parse(url) here sendIntent.setType("image/*"); // I have tried "image/jpg" and "impage/jpeg" here... startActivity(sendIntent);
The file that I'm trying to send is in my application sandbox.
/data/data/com.myapp.test/files/myco/cache/1234.jpg
However, every time I send the message, I get --
10-16 01:46:51.371: ERROR/MediaModel(3298): IOException caught while opening or reading stream 10-16 01:46:51.371: ERROR/MediaModel(3298): java.io.FileNotFoundException: /data/data/com.myapp.test/files/myco/ cache/1234.jpg 10-16 01:46:51.371: ERROR/MediaModel(3298): at org.apache.harmony.luni.platform.OSFileSystem.open(OSFileSystem.java: 231) 10-16 01:46:51.371: ERROR/MediaModel(3298): at java.io.FileInputStream.<init>(FileInputStream.java:80)
Is this because the file I'm pointing at is in my local sandbox? And if it is, how do I expose it to the MMS app. I have thought about copying it to the SD card first, but that seems like a really bad solution... Can I have the intent run as thought the person who received it is me? (I thought I remembered reading that somewhere...)
Applications can have any number of launchable activities. I know how to get the list of these activities via PackageManager.
Is there a way to determine which activities can be launched via startActivity?
For example, the Documents To Go app has different activities that will start Word, Excel, Powerpoint, PDF, etc... I am able to launch all o these just fine.
However, it also contains some activities that I am not able to launch with startActivity... If I attempt to do this I get a SecurityException.
I want to be able to determine which activities I can safely launch and which I cannot so I only present the user with a list of activities that I can safely launch from within my application...
I currently use Timeriffic, which has been great at managing settings for different times of the day. What I am looking for, however, is an application similar to that where I can define the sound behavior for one specific application.
What I am trying to do is make it so all notifications are at 10% volume during the night, but Id like to make notifications from Google Talk louder, like at 50%. I haven't been able to find anything that would allow a rule like that, but thought Id ask since you guys seem to know everything!
Use case goes like this:
1) Dev puts game for sale on Android market hoping to make lots of $$ $.
2) Dev makes $50 in a month, cries a little, realizes his game is languishing in the ratings so makes it free.
3) Game does really well and gets > 50,000 downloads.
4) Dev still wants to make some $$$ off his game, so adds a "donate" feature to app which points users to another app dev has created in the marketplace where they can donate by buying the app.
5) Dev wants to reward those who have donated by providing new features only to them.
How do I go about determining if any given user has purchased either my original app, or my "donate" app so that I can unlock functionality? I'd like to determine this even if the user no longer has the app installed on their phone. Then android market app seems to know this which is how it knows not to charge the user again for the same app they've already paid for.
I want to launch a specif application.
I know how to do Intents but I want to avoid the selection menu if there are multiple apps that can handle the intent, i want to go directly to a particular app. Hope this makes sense.
