Android :: Want to detect Application idle time

Android :: Detect User Idle Time

Jul 21, 2010

I would like to know if android has some kind of 'idle time broadcast message'. So for example if the user is currently using one activity of my application but haven't touched the screen or used any keyboard (and doesn't have the autolock at phone level or any screensaver) for a while, I would like to be informed (let's say after 60 seconds). I would like to avoid doing it manually (by tracking each user click, touch, activity changes...)

Android :: Detect If User Using Application First Time?

I would like to know if the user is using the application for the first time. I am using SharedPreferences, but I am not sure if I have the right logic. How can I set my isFirstLaunched boolean to true when the user first launches, and then immediately set to false after work has been done?

protected void onStart() {
super.onStart();

if(isFirstLaunch()){
populateDefaultQuotes();
//Save the preferences, isFirstLaunch will now be false
SharedPreferences settings = getSharedPreferences(Constants.PREFS_NAME, 0);....................

HTC Hero :: Enabling Mobile Network After Idle Time Not Working

Aug 30, 2009

All I want to do is from time to time check my mails. For this, I want to activate the mobile network connection (3G) manually for a short period of time, and then de-activate it again.

The problem is that enabling the "mobile network" checkbox after my phone has been idle for some time, doesn't actually activate the 3G connection. (no "H" or "G" icon in the notification bar)

So when I open the mail app it complains with a "connection failed" message.

Even better would be if I could find a way to have my mails automatically checked whenever the connection is activated ...

Other than that I'm very happy with the phone.

General :: Application Which Forces All Processes To 0% Cpu Usage When Idle

May 26, 2013

My idle cpu usage seems a little high and sporadic and I'd like to force them all to 0% when idle but still be able to receive background data like for instance my play store seems to use a continuous idle usage and a few others. I can freeze them with the System Tuner but I'd prefer to Globally force all apps to 0% usage so I'm getting say 1% usage at idle on occasion every hour or few hours? When I use System Monitor, I see my cpu usage kind of jumping from 0 to up to 35-40% while idling and I don't want these apps using any resources at idle. I'm trying to extend battery life a lot more.

My battery life is really good already since I have a 3600mah battery but I could get even better if I can dial in the usage at idle.

Is there application that can do that?

On another note, I can't seem to figure out why my Google Calendar won't open a "New Event" it just sits on the Loading... Screen

Android :: Detect Another Application Started Playing Audio

Aug 26, 2010

My music application constantly plays music in the background, however I'd like to be able to detect when another application starts playing audio (such as the YouTube app) so I can pause/mute/stop the audio in my application. This will allow a user to continue browsing the web whilst listening to music, but then if they wish to watch a video at any point, they can do so without audio conflict.

One solution might be to listen for a broadcast which states when an application begins using the AudioManager. Does such an Intent Action exist? Edit: As in the answer provided below, there appears to be a method of detecting the loss of audio focus in 2.2 with AudioManager.OnAudioFocusChangeListener.

Android :: Best Time Saving Application

Nov 4, 2010

an away-message app called Siesta Text. (this msg ain't spam by the way! i'm truly psyched on the thing). anyhow, this thing sends auto-replies to anyone who calls or sends you texts (if you have it on). my buddy at AOL said he was using a similar one for a while, but Siesta was way cleaner + easier. also, apparently the fact that you can program them to repeat for up to a year is a big deal (?)

i just switched from iPhone to Droid and downloaded it yesterday. have had it for exactly 1 day and it's literally changing my life. anyhow, thought anyone who's interested in saving time (and not feeling the burden of having to respond immediately to everyone) would enjoy it. also, by the looks of their site, they ain't got one for iPhone, so screw you again Apple! again, i JUST joined this board and am probably way late to the party, but check it out!

What I want to know is, can those Permissions be adjusted by the Applications on the fly?Here's my reason: say I have an application that is allowed to do "x", "y", and "z" (SMS, sockets, etc) Permissions. Now lets say I have a logical "user" that connects to this Application, and I want that user to only be able to do "x" and "y", but not "z" Permissions. It would be nice to have the Android Framework handle that instead of having a bunch of "if's" in the App code.

Android :: Playing Multiple Sounds At Same Time In Application

I am unable to use the following to code to play multiple sounds/beeps simultaneously. In my onclicklistener I have added

} public void playSound(int index) {
int streamVolume = mAudioManager.getStreamVolume(AudioManager.STREAM_MUSIC);

Android :: Emulator Application Load / Start Time

Oct 6, 2010

I'm working with Eclipse and writing an Android application. I've noticed that the load times to the Android emulator can vary significantly. Recently, I found that manually going back to the main menu of the emulator helps my application load much faster.Is there a quicker way (read: automatic way) to exit out of my application rather than hitting the Back button multiple times until I get to the main app menu? Secondly, is there something I am doing wrong that factors into the longer load time?
