Android :: View Width Change Animation?
Sep 13, 2010
I'm trying to make a timeout gauge bar animation effect:The width of a lengthy colorful bitmap image is decreasing, but not x-scaling.so the image looks not changing and the visible area shrinks.I couldn't find the sole ImageView clipping or masking support in android.then changing the shrink_box's width will clip the portion of the still_image.But I failed to change the width of the view smoothly.I tried to change the LayoutParam.width in applyTransformation() but got an Exception, it seems not allowed. How can I make an Animation that changes the width of the view. OR is there a proper method to achieve the above effect?

I have a layout xml file with a linear layout. One of the children is again a ViewGroup Relative layout. In my java code i want to change the width of this child Viewgroup for my requirements. I tried this
ViewGroup childViewGroup = (LinearLayout)findViewById(childViewGroup);
LayoutParams l = childViewGroup.getLayoutParams();
l.width = 360;
childViewGroup .setLayoutParams(l);
I couldn't do this because findViewById(childViewGroup) doesn't fetch ViewGroups it does only for Views. Note: I cant define a whole new layout.xml for this minor requirement since it is huge layout file and might cause performance overhead. I wanted to just change the width of the child view group in my java activity code.

Everywhere I look online, it seems that I must use an animation to change views dynamically (like slide in, out). Do I have to do this, or can I simple just setContentView() on each new activity?

I am having a listview in my App which shows perfectly in Portrait mode. But when I change orientation to landscape, sometimes the width remains as that of Portrait mode. Even the scrollbar for the list comes at the center and remaining part of the screen remains blacked out. This happens only with the list view. Other views show perfectly. I have designed the layouts such that the Portrait layouts look feel proportionate in landscape mode. I want to avoid restarting the activity so I have not put the layouts in the landscape folder. I tried invalidating the listview in onConfigurationChanged() but of no use. When I navigate in the list in landscape mode, the width automatically gets adjusted.

I want to change the key width in keyboard at runtime. The constructor of class Keyboard only accepts the layout resource ID. I tried setHeight method, but it didn't work obviously when I checked the code of Keyboard. Any solution? Do I have to implement my own Keyboard

I am rendering a ListView inside a dialog. The ListView elements are very simple TextView objects. The problem: whatever I do, they never take the full width in the list view, which has the side effect that the list view selector only covers the actual text, not the whole list entry (i.o.w., if the text of the entry is much smaller than the width of the listview/dialog, then only a tiny portion of the list element is highlighted when focusing it).

I would like change the width of a Horizontal Progressbar programmatically (initial size is set in XML using RelativeLayout...but I would like to dynamically change it based on certain values).
I have tried setMinimumWidth(50) in my code, but that did not make a difference. I have also tried setting 'android:layout_width="wrap_content", but that did not work either.
Here is my XML:

Every time that I want to do a Layout, I'm getting a black layout preview then I can drop stuff on it, that's ok, but how can I change the size of that blank surface (xml). The question came because I set a folder layout-large and then when I add a new layout.xml to that folder it came with the same size, as a layout-normal.

I have a two column TableLayout as the only child of a scroll view. The first column contains TextViews ('labels') and the second column contains EditText/Spinner/DateWidget etc ('values').
Even though I have have specified android:layout_width="fill_parent" for TableLayout, TableRow & all widgets (in 'values' column).
The screen looks perfect when the activity is created. However, when one types a really long value in the EditText, the 'values' column goes beyond the visible screen area.

I was wondering if someone has a good answer to this.I am looking for a better way to animate a background color transition from on color to the next.Currently, I have two views, vCurrentColor which lays on top of the vNextColor, in a FrameLayout. I then animate the alpha of the currentColorView to zero. At the end of the animation I swap the positions of the views and repeat the process.

I have a imageView, editText and textView within a LinearLayout. I would like to animate the EditText onTouch, to make it twice as taller and display a softkeyboard so that users can type into it. I cannot figure out if I should write some custom logic in applyTransformation of animation class which extends android.view.animation.Animation class OR go with a viewSwitcher which switches to a different view with bigger EditText. I would like to have a smoother transition if possible.
