Android :: Using External Source Inside Program (Eliminating Swing Components)

I am having a little trouble using some external source files. I am new to eclipse and the methods used to import external source files. Basically this is what I have done. Downloaded the source files for a java project called "TrueLicense" via CVS. Imported this library by going to "Projects" and adding the "TrueLicense" project (I am not sure if I should do this in "Source", "projects" or "Libraries"?) Imported the required classes into my android project without any compile errors.

When I run the program I get:
12-05 15:52:28.632: WARN/dalvikvm(724): VFY: unable to find class referenced in signature (Ljavax/swing/filechooser/FileFilter;)
Then a whole lot of other errors. This seems sensible as there is a sections of the TrueLicense package that used Swing. How do I only import the parts of TrueLicense that I need?

Android :: Accessing APK Signing Certificate From Inside Program

I've posted this on Android Security as well, but that group does not appear to have as much activity. Actually I guess my question belongs in this group anyway, even though it touches on some of the security aspects of android packages. My goal is to access the certificate that was used to sign the apk package; and ordinarily, I would do that from inside the program like this

Certificates[] signingCertificates = getClass().getProtectionDomain().getCodeSource().getCertificates();
Unfortunately it appears that getProtectionDomain() returns null on android - according to the specs

This method might return null (to converse space?) but only for system classes. Since I'm calling this from one of my own classes, I would expect to get a non-null value, but unfortunately not. I have tried from the emulator, and from an application deployed on my phone using adb through a USB cable. I'm using the latest SDK (2.2) and targeting android 1.6. So I guess I have two questions, the first being: why does getProtectionDomain return null, and have anyone had any success using this method from inside an android application. And the second: Is there some other way to access the certificate that a given apk package was signed with (I can live with the restriction that only a given package can know its own certificate).

I'm just wondering if I'm able to create a View from an external XML source. As I was reading, you must place the XML layout inside the res/layout and when you compile it, you can load the layout by typing setContentView(R.layouts.my_layout). What if I have this XML layout online (on a website) and I want to create the layout on runtime? Is there any way to do this? Or I have to parse the XML and create the layout (hard-coded)?

I want to dynamically pull in a layout from an external source. As discussed in this thread from September 2009 -

I am wondering if the situation has changed since this discussion or if it is likely to change. I understand the need to use pre-compiled xml layouts so if there is an option to dynamically pull in a layout that is already compiled that would be fine. Basically I want a setup where I can change a view layout without an app update. The elements within the view would be fairly static (e.g. there will be 2 buttons call foo and bar that fire fooOnClick and barOnClick). The only work around I can think of is a custom scripting language that allows the definition of views that are created from code. Ideally this would parse the same xml as a standard layout. Obviously this would involve a lot of code and probably be fairly slow.

If this is the only option at least the EdsMagicLayoutInflater class would be reusable across projects.

Android :: Source Not Found - Program Crashes

I'm getting an error in my Android app that says "source not found" and crashes the program. I've already read a number of posts saying that the solution is to download the android source code and load that up in Eclipse, but I tried to no avail. Is it weird that the first entry is 'ActivityThrea d' with the 'd' cut off? If this is the problem, what went wrong and how do I fix it? The line of code the debug stops on:

I am using Eclipse on Windows 7 x64. I have all of the newest updates to the android SDK and I downloaded the android source code and added it to the Eclipse patch because previous posts led me to try that. The code breaks for debug when the first time AddAnimationID is called. Looks like I didn't have enough breakpoints, the culprit is not the AddAnimationID function but actually the SetImageView one. The if statement seems to not work, so I've commented it out for now. I'll post back once I've figured it out. It's probably something silly that works in another language but not Java.

HTC Desire : Access SMS / Text - External Program To Open / View Them?

Recently my HTC Desire got damaged but fortunately I had copied and pasted all the data from my HTC Desire to my laptop. I connected my Desire to my Laptop in 'Disk Drive' mode and copy/pasted all contents/folders.

Now my Desire replacement has not yet arrived. Is there anyway I can access my 'Text' messages that were stored on my Desire in my laptop.

Where will I find those text and do I need some external program to open/view them?

I have 2 apps and both integrate a package containing an activity. My problem is that when I launch any one app, and when it calls the activity inside the package, it shows me a dialog:

I want to eliminate this dialog, so it just launches the activity from its own integrated package.Currently, my AndroidManifest.xml contains for the package activity:

It has come an Star A3 to my hands, with Android 4.0 and among all great things of IceCream, few Chinese apps I want to get rid of

the phone is rooted. I have flash the recovery 592zn.com_recovery_Star_A3_MT6573.img with Mobileuncle tools (included in the mobile originally) and done a Boot/System/Data/Cache Nandroid backup

Apps I want to eliminate :

Baidu input (and add the standard input keyboard)
own Chinese launcher (I have already install LauncherPro, but I would love to get rid of the Chinese one completely)
UC xxxxx (some Chinese browser)
Root Explorer (Chinese version, to be able to install the English one)
ICS 4.0 (also Chinese version)
a Chinese flash-light
a Chinese dark/light switch screen
a Chinese version of the configuration menu

so, basically to keep a clean Android. how to do that ?

On my D1, I downloaded My Auto Lock App that allowed me to hit the power button and the phone would open to the last screen that was open without having to slide the green unlock which is a PITA if you are going without a lock pattern. Is there an app to allow skipping the puzzle slide. I have not yet found one.

First of all I'd like to mention I am very new to Java programming. This Android project is my first experience with Java. So for one task I need to strip HTML tags from a string. I was thinking about using this answer Removing HTML from a Java String to do this task. In order to do this I need to be able to import javax.swing.text.html.* and javax.swing.text.html.parser.*.

I went to the properties of my project and attempted to add this library to my project. I read that this was included in the rt.jar file which was located at /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk/jre/lib/rt.jar. I was able to use the imports but it seems like it added a million libraries I am not using. Will this negatively effect my application? What is the correct way to add just the one extension?

I have developed a 2D game in Java Swing for a desktop application. My characters are simply JLables that move around over a static background image. I do the animations for the characters walk sequences by changing their image every certain number of game logic loop iterations. Being new to android, what would be the best way to port my game over to android since Swing is not supported? Is there something like a JLabel that can be used for characters? I want to use a control similar to Swing JSpinner in an Android application. I know that Android has a widget called Spinner, but it's more like a combo box than a JSpinner. I've noticed that DatePicker and TimePicker widgets are using components that are just like JSpinner. The only problem is that I don't really want Date or Time. I just want to get some integer, say from 1 to 50, that user chooses. I've searched Android API reference in and out, but I couldn't find any clue on how to do this.

Android :: ScrollView With Buttons Inside / No Response Until Second Click On Any Button Inside

I've been a couple of days trying to solve this thing but I can'f figure it out.The problem is, simple activity, with simple layout, ScrollView -> LinearLayout -> and a lot of buttons inside the layout (within the scroll content). Everything works just fine but one tricky thing. When I click a button let's say at the top of the scroll content and inmediatelly I scroll down to the bottom of the content and I click other button there, nothing happens until I click a second time and all come to normal again.This can be reproduced anytime and it's code independent (i've tried more than 20 scenarios). I've not much experience in android yet but looks like the scroll listener stops the onclick listener or something like that.

My goal is to have something pretty much exactly like the installed application details page in the Android Market.I need a list of items displayed along with other content above the list, and would like the content above to scroll up along with the list (exactly like the application details does for the "My Review" and other descriptive info).Due to responses to my previous posts, I came to believe that it really wasn't possible to do this with a ListView.So rather than using a ListView, I refactored my code to use a simple LinearLayout and add individual View items to the list, thinking I could just set each View as clickable and add an OnClickListener to each View in the LinearLayout.That's not working at all though, and now I'm getting even more frustrated.If someone can help me get the OnClickListener working, then I think it'll work, but I do need a separator for the LinearLayout.How do I add a separator like the one used for ListView to my LinearLayout?

When I use customized components in XML, could I use a short name of component instead of a fully qualified class name? I wonder if some configuration file exists to do that work.

For example, my customized components is ex.object.RoundRect,

I should use it in xml file like this: <ex.object.RoundRect android:id="@+id/mainRoundRect01" ... />

But

I want to use it like this: <RoundRect android:id="@+id/mainRoundRect01" ... />

Is it possible? Is there a configuration file that can map the fully qualified class name to a short name?

I want to develop and distribute some custom UI components for android apps. This custom component can do some network communicatioon too with my server. So by this I want to hide the communication protocol from my component users, and will show the content as provided by my control eg sponsor ads. This concept is same as Apple's iAD. Issue: 1. I want to hide my custom component code from its users so that they just need to include it in their antivity rest its upto me. 2. I have not implemented but sure that a UI component can do network communication.

I know this question is definitely solved somewhere many times already, please enlighten me if you know of their existence,

Quick rundown:
I want to compute from a 3 axis accelerometer the gravity component on each of these 3 axes.
I have used 2 axes free body diagrams to work out the accelerometer's gravity component in the world X-Z, Y-Z and X-Y axes. But the solution seems slightly off, it's acceptable for extreme cases when only 1 accelerometer axis is exposed to gravity, but for a pitch and roll of both 45 degrees, the combined total magnitude is greater than gravity (obtained by Xa^2+Ya^2+Za^2=g^2; Xa, Ya and Za are accelerometer readings in its X, Y and Z axis).

More detail:
The device is a Nexus One, and have a magnetic field sensor for azimuth, pitch and roll in addition to the 3-axis accelerometer.In the world's axis (with Z in the same direction as gravity, and either X or Y points to the north pole, don't think this matters much?), I assumed my device has a pitch (P) on the Y-Z axis, and a roll (R) on the X-Z axis. With that I used simple trig to get:
Sin(R)=Ax/Gxz
Cos(R)=Az/Gxz
Tan(R)=Ax/Az
There is another set for pitch, P.Now I defined gravity to have 3 components in the world's axis, a Gxz that is measurable only in the X-Z axis, a Gyz for Y-Z, and a Gxy for X-Y axis.Gxz^2+Gyz^2+Gxy^2=2*G^2 the 2G is because gravity is effectively included twice in this definition. Oh and the X-Y axis produce something more exotic I'll explain if required later.From these equations I obtained a formula for Az, and removed the tan operations because I don't know how to handle tan90 calculations (it's infinity?).So my question is, anyone know whether I did this right/wrong or able to point me to the right direction?
