If you have an interest in reviewing an upcoming Android development book, we are in need of an "expert" technical proof-reader. The title is Unlocking Android, published by Manning. You can learn more about the book here: http://manning.com/ableson. ( Note that I am providing this link so you can learn more about the title to determine if you are interested in the technical proofreader project, not to promote it.) This is a paid position, paying $1 per page. The total page count is approximately 400 pages. If you are interested, please send an email to me at fableson at msiservices.com There is an aggressive schedule for completing this project so please respond only if you are an experienced Android developer and can devote time to this project over the next 2 to 3 weeks.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to find some official android documentation that discusses sleep mode, with a focus on issues that might be of relevance to app developers. For example, things like:
1. What causes a device to enter / exit sleep mode?
2. How are running processes impacted when the device enters sleep mode? (I believe they continue to exist, but don't execute because cpu activity is suspended. When the device wakes up execution picks up where it left off?)
There is some good info in the API docs for PowerManager and WakeLock, but nothing there that explicitly states what I have assumed in point 2 above. Are the above issues (and any other relevant issues) documented anywhere?
I develop Android appliations for a living. As always, we have a very short time to get a finished product out the door and we're relying on the Android to be one of our flagship phones.I've got no time for "phone exploration" or hobbying around. I need technical information, and IN PARTICULAR, information about the hard problems. The easy problems that everyone writes about is not helpful for what I need. I want to be able to pick up the phone and call someone on the Google development team to get some quick answers and information that's not found in the documentation, (which by the way has more holes in it than the moon has craters). And, I'm willing to pay for the kind of support I need. I can even visit Google peeps at the development lab in Kirkland.I can make the case to my boss for paying for this kind of live support, but I can't make the case that "I just can't do stuff" on the Android. What I need has GOT to be done and quick. And I need quick technical information.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am a Mac user (photographer/ videographer). I also rely heavily on my iPod Touch when mobile (i can often find a wifi signal when i am out and about). I use iCal on the Touch and iCal on my Mac as well as the address book on both everyday and as a Mobile Me user, my two devices sync so everything is mirrored and up to date. I also HATE AT&T for their terrible signal strength and coverage and have been a loyal Verizon customer for many years and this is why I don't have an iPhone. Okay, all that being said, is there an easy way to still use everything I love and rely on with my Mac (the calender and address book, mainly) and easily sync all of my existing information and future info to an Android based device? How easy is it to use an Android device with a Mac? I don't want to have to manually re-enter my entire address book into a new device.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running xtr 4.0.6.1 with LP Pro. Really like the setup and especially the dock at the bottom from LP. I have Phone, Mail, App Drawer, SMS, and GMail on my dock. I spend 80% of my time there in the Mail app as my Eris is primarily a work device for me, and my company uses Exchange. My issue is this, under Menu > Preferences, there are settings to turn on notification for Unread Gmail, Unread SMS, and Missed Calls. These notifications are down on the dock, not in the top notification bar. It's nice to have those three, but what I really need is the notification for Unread Mail (like the Sense icon has). I've been bouncing around the Launcher Pro website and came across somebody asking for exactly the same thing. In post #5 a user talks about using SDK to code it in manually via adb, and he's even provided the code. Here's the link, have a look: LauncherPro Forum - View topic - Unread count not updating home page. I've done a Nand backup of my current configuration. Would I be an idiot to try this? Can mere mortals like me do something like this? I'm curious to hear what the good and bad to this would be.

View 8 Replies View RelatedOK so this was in regards to me talking to my buddy about trying to get Google Goggles to work on my 1.5 Hero since it already works on his 1.6 MyTouch.I know that the Roms are all different but one thing I just can't get. What is the technical difference between a 2.1 ROM on a Hero with 1.5, and a 2.1 ROM on a Hero with 2.1?I know the ROMs now are based on 1.5 themselves so they run well on the Hero, but they are messing with 2.1 ROMs, and I'm not sure what that means when it's "based" (or is it based, I don't get that part) on a 1.5 OS on the Hero.I apologize for not being able to word this well, hopefully you guys understand it.The conclusion obviously would also be if someone makes a 1.6 ROM then that should either technically run Google Goggles (just like running apps2sd), or since it's based on our Hero's 1.5, is this not correct?
View 5 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to have the sender's name/number displayed on the lock screen when a text is received? I've got handcent installed and I've got it set up so that when I receive a text, the quick reply box pops up for 10/20 seconds. But if I'm away from my phone and I later check to see if I've received a text, the only indication I have is a small icon on the navigation bar.
View 4 Replies View RelatedFor an example, lets say I have a url which returns stats about a certain football team (the team name is a parameter on the url) and it displays the information purely as text (with maybe a bit of text before and after):

Is anyone able to give me any advice on how I would go about retrieving only the information I need so i can put it into my own format and display it nicer? Would I need an xml parser, would I need the page source code, if so how could I get it?

1) input Username and Password info directly a web textbox to sign the Customer in, from an EditText View.
2) grab usage information in the form of text or images to display to the user within the app.
Just a pointer in the right direction on what method(s) would do this for me.
