I know this has to be trivial but I just don't find the right resource, I guess.
So all I want to do is retrieving a thumbnail for a video. All I have is the absolute path to the file on the sdcard as a String. So please point me into the right direction.

I need to store an retrieve a vector of an unknown number of objects in an android sqlite database. Essentially, the setup is this: I am developing a task management app, where the user can add as many notes as they like to their tasks. My current setup uses one database, with one row per task. This presents a problem when I need to associate multiple notes and their associated information with one task. I can see two approaches: try to store an array of notes or a vector or something as a BLOB in the task's row, or have another notes database in which each row contains a note and it's info, as well the id of the task which the note belongs to. This seems a little easier to implement, as all I would have to do to retrieve the data would be to get a cursor of all notes matching a particular id and then iterate through that to display them to the user. However, it seems a little inefficient to have a whole new database just for notes, and it makes syncing and deleting notes a little more difficult as well. What do you think? Is it worth it to have a separate notes database? Should I use a BLOB or go for the separate database? If a BLOB, are there any good tutorials out there for storing and retrieving objects as BLOBs?

In the app I am making, I would like to take a Base64 image that is received from a server, and save it to a file for displaying later. My question is where should I store this file? It needs to be dynamic, and may be empty when the program launches. I am unsure how exactly the file system on Android works, such as how file paths look.
Ideally I would like to be able to write the data to the image file using a FileOutputStream, and then display that image somehow.

Set the image background path as package:imageName Example. At runtime , my package is com.test.android .Inside that i have an image whose path i want to mention in the XML layout file as android:src = com.test.android/img1 for an ImageButton.I saw an SDK reference for ImageView as android:src = @[+][package:]type:name.But i am not getting how to use it.I think it must not be possibe , but if there is any way , please specify. The reason why i want to do this is that, when i specify a drawable at runtime for my image buttons, i change the images according to Focus received, or onKeyup, KeyDown.. but its not working as expected. When i mention the same thing as style under drawable, it works fine. So if my theme is going to change at runtime, i want to set the drawable at runtime, keepnig the path same in the xml.

I have a square grid, for a turn based game ( grid is similar to the chess board ), but the moves in the games are different based on whether you have lapped your opponent pawn at least once or not.i.e if you have not lapped (beaten any of the opponents pawns) in the outer most grid as below.if you have lapped your opponent pawn once at least, then you get to reach home, this way.Any player having all his pawns reaching "home" first wins. The ones in yellow are safe-houses, i.e both the opponent pawn and the player's pawn get to stay in the same grid, this is not considered to be lapping ( the opponent ).The lapped pawn will return to its start point. Now the question is, what is the effective way to store the paths for the all the pawns.we will have 4 pawns for the player and 4 opponent pawns. Is there any pattern to store such static information, in a elegant way?

I was wondering if anyone knew anything about programmatically getting the sms messages off of your phone's sim card on an android platform. I would like to write a program that allows you to save either individual messages or entire threads to the sd card, but after looking around for a bit, I have discovered that google decided to take out that api from the current android sdk. I saw in a few places that there are hidden apis for this, but no one knew what they were or how to use them.
