Android :: Start Activity From Menu Option Doesn't Work / Fix It

Dec 9, 2009

I am completely exhausted to think logically right now..... I am sure it is pretty easy to implement

I have a menu item which when selected would call another activity class. I am using switch case to select between menu items. I tried creating an Intent to start activity using the Class name but doesn't work.

Android :: Start A New Activity From A Menu Action - ActivityNotFoundException

Feb 28, 2010

I am trying to start a new activity from a menu action, as follows:

CODE:.............

The class exists, and has the OnCreate method over-ridden, but whenever I try to perform the action in the simulator I get an ActivityNotFoundException raised. I have looked through the documents and as far as I can read, I do not need to create an Intent in the manifest.xml for this to work.

Android : Why Doesn't Context Menu Work In "Notepad" Tutorial

May 24, 2010

I'm working through the 'notepad' tutorial given in the developer's guide: http://developer.android.com/guide/tutorials/notepad/index.html

For some reason, even when i'm using their solution files, the context menu does not come up with i 'click and hold' on a list entry.

The class extends ListActivity, and calls "registerForContextMenu(getListView());"

but I never see the context menu fire. Any idea what's wrong with it?

a) Speaker doesn't work in call (very weak). works well in ringtones etc.

Other than that this is a leap forward, especially with the overclock options!

Both bugs, as well as others, fixed in 1.6.3.1 update!

Android :: Refreshing Option Menu Items

Jul 29, 2010

I have created an option menu which also has a sub menu. In the sub menu I have a setting for enabling/disabling images in my application based on the application level flag that i change based on the option being clicked. What I am observing is that when i click on the "Menu" and change the settings from enable Images to disable Images. its not reflecting.I have put the debug log and what have been seen is the onOptionCreateMenu method is getting called only one time- first time when i click the "Menu" button. That is the reason the changed sub menu is not getting reflected. My question is that is there a way i can re-create the option menu every time user presses the "Menu Button".

Android :: Start An Activity And Return Back To Original Activity

Jan 26, 2009

I have an application with contains multiple activities. The main activity will start the others ( use startActivity() ) depends on user event, when an activity close, it calls finish() and return back to main activity. It appears to behavior like that.

However, the "problem" I see is main activity's onCreate function is called every time. I think the the main activity should be placed in the activity stack and simply push to front when others exit, therefore only onResume, onStart are called. Is there some flag I need to set or I misunderstand the activity behaviro?

In child activity, besides calling finish() or startActivity for main activity, what is other way to move main activity to front?

Android :: Start Activity When Main Activity Is Running In Background

Jan 10, 2010

I created an application which enables the user to set whether he wants to receive notification while the application runs in background mode. If the notifications are enabled an activity should be started (the dialog should appear on the screen).

I tried to enabled it the following way:

CODE:...........

This is the method from main activity. When onPause() is executed isRunningInBackground is set true.
When I tried to debug it when the main application was running in the background the line

startActivity(intent) had no effect (the activity didn't appear).

Does anyone know how to midify the logic in order to start an activity from the main activity when the main activity is running in the background (after onPause() is called)?

Android :: Start An Activity In Different Apk Using StartActivity - Using The Activity Name Or Similar

Apr 20, 2010

I have tried to write an Android application with an activity that should be launched from a different application. It is not a content provider, just an app with a gui that should not be listed among the installed applications. I have tried the code examples here and it seems to be quite easy to launch existing providers and so on, but I fail to figure out how to just write a "hidden" app and launch it from a different one.

The basic use case is:

App A is a normal apk launchable from the application list.

App B is a different apk with known package and activity names, but is is not visible or launchable from the application list.

App A launches app B using the package and class names (or perhaps a URI constructed from these?).

I fail in the third step. Is it possible to do this?

Android :: Menu Option Starts Thread - Hangs

Mar 12, 2009

I am developing a game based on the SurfaceView/LunarLander example in the sample code. I have one activity, with one menu option that is "new game". My activity listens for the menu selection, and once new game is selected, doStart of the Game thread is called. The game starts up after 3-4 seconds, but the menu option sticks around on the screen until the game has started. I think the main thread is waiting on the doStart to do its thing, but since it's creating a new thread, how do I get it to just start the thread and continue its business of hiding the menu option right away, instead of after 3 seconds?
