Android :: Using ObjectOutputStream To Send A Document Object To Application
Sep 20, 2010I am developing an android application at the moment, and i'm facing a problem that i have no idea how to solve. My application communicates with a Tomcat Server, and i'm using ObjectOutputStream to send a Document object to my application from my servlet. There fore, i'm importing org.w3c.dom to my project. The problem i'm facing is, that I can't read the Document object with ObjectInputStream on my android device. I'm getting the following exception.

I can send and recieve any object i want without any problem, but when I try to send an object refered to the com.w3c.dom package I get this exception.

Aug 8, 2010I'm working on a site that's supposed to scale fluently down to low resolutions, so that it would work just as well on a phone. This works well in Firefox and Chrome when I just make the window small, but when I try it out on an actual Android phone (Nexus One running Android 2.2), it renders it super-huge! (Using JS's window.innerWidth and window.innerHeight properties, it seems the viewport resolution it reports is 800x1271!.Is there a way to render the page at actual-size in the browser window so I can have my full design show up on the phone? User-agent sniffing is allowed, JS is allowed but discouraged.

When I try to construct a java URI object from this object, I get an IllegalArgumentException with the exception description Expected file scheme in URI: content://media/external/images/media/3 whereas the android URI shows the scheme as content
Never found a solution for the original question. But if you want the byte stream of an image in the pictures gallery, this piece of code will do that.

Sep 23, 2010So I'm loading images from a web service, but the size of the images are sometimes smaller or bigger than other images and the visualization looks silly when I put them in a ListView in android. I'd like to fix the size of my ImageView so that it only shows a portion of the image if it's larger than a preset amount. I've tried everything I can think of setting the setMaxWidth/setMaxHeight, setting the scale type to centerCrop, using ClipableDrawable wrapping my BitmapDrawable, setting using Drawable.setBounds(). I've tried setting in the XML and programmatically, but neither worked. I'm very surprised setting max width/height didn't do anything. Right now I'm using a relative layout with a textview and two buttons and I can almost get it the way I want but the only thing is the textview isn't as long as I want it. I want it to be as long as necessary for whatever handset is using it. So a constant pixel amount is out.

I am using a self-provided sqlite database ( > 50mb ) . I tested that once the built .apk size exceeds ~30mb the app will not be installed onto the simulator (INSTALL_FAILED_ INSUFFICIENT _STORAGE). Could anyone confirm me that if up until now there is no way to embed such large size files in a single apk ( Aimed to sell at Google Market without requiring user to download datafile afterwards). Also, is there a limitation of 1,048,576 bytes for a single file in the assets folder ?

Jul 8, 2010i'm sending an http request to the google reader api and getting an unusual response code. following the documentation, i've requested an auth code and included it in the header of every request. after performing the login, and getting an auth code, i tried accessing this url, which is part of the documentation: http://www.google.com/reader/api/0/stream/items/contents when i send the request, i get a 411 status code, which is supposed to mean "Length Required". the length, as i've found, is supposed to be the length, in octets, of the message body. there is no message body in this request. there is only a single header, the POST parameter i="item id" and the URL itself. i tried setting the "Content-Length" header to "0" and also to "-1" to no avail. what's really interesting is that this same code worked fine before google changed their authorization procedure. it's apparent they've changed something else. so my question is what EXACTLY would cause a 411 response code and how can i prevent it?

Jul 8, 2010Can somebody explain to me what makes up the installed application size? I have an apk that is about 8 MB, and often when I install I get the INSUFFICIENT_STORAGE error. I have around 25-30 MB free space on the phone. I'm doing debugging so I have to upload lots of new versions. If I uninstall the previous version then I can install the new version. The application manager claims that the app is taking up 22 MB. So back to the original question, how come the app is taking up 22 MB when it really only is 8 MB?

What is strange is after having installed it in the device (2.1 firmware) I checked the size of the apk when I uninstalled it from the device and surprisingly the apk size indicated is bigger even than the .so one.
