Android :: Settings For Wallpapers
Sep 29, 2010
I'm very new to Android programming, but have put a Live Wallpaper on the market, and its doing surprisingly well. What I want do is make some money out of it, but I don't know the technical architecture to use. What I want is for users to be able to change the settings of the wallpaper far more directly than through the whole wallpaper settings, and tie that settings screen it into an application that I sell. I can intercept a single tap and hence a double tap on a blank area of the screen in a wallpaper, and do already in my app. Could I use this to fire up a regular application to edit the wallpaper settings? Could I pick from two settings screens, depending on whether they had installed my paid app? How would I send the settings back? Could I use intents?
What about the other way? Could I have a desktop app which sent settings info to a Live Wallpaper? What if it isn't running? Can I/ should I try and communicate through the SD file system - although its only a few hundred bytes of data? Finally, as I want to sell a premium version, can my Live Wallpaper check to see if the premium version is installed? Sorry, I have no idea, but my product is doing well and I want to do this properly

I know ime developer can create his own setting activity which will be displayed in Settings apk. I wonder whether there is a common way to interate any settings activity into Settings apk.

Is there an app that lets you use non standard aspect ratio wallpapers? I have some wider pics that I'd like to use with out cropping them. I'd also like to be able to have the option to use different back grounds for different screens. Anything out there that can do this?

It was recommended to me (before someone told me to set up my SD card differently with a media folder..it works too) to use the apps:
Zedge
Mabilio
They have both sounds and walls, with Mabilio having more just sounds and not songs
But with both you can't really download them--they are downloaded per se' but only within their own app
So I downloaded the opening to Droid Droooooiiiiiiiddd LOL
It gave me the opportunity to assign as major notification or not, or to assign as a ringtone to someone, but i could NOT use as email, sms or mms and when I went into sms or mms, I only found my folder I was speaking above with that one NOT in there
How change a folder on my sd card OR i believe my sd is fine, I think I need a new app?

I'm new to smart phones. I've never owned one before and now I'm the proud owner of a droid X. I'm confident in my handling so far, but I need some help with my knowledge of apps.
I want an app that will let me have rotating wallpapers and possibly rotating ringers. I want to be able to customize a little more. Does that exist?
What is the best app for ringers and wallpapers? Any others that are a must?

I recently just bought my HTC Evo and already have a question about the wallpapers I choose to use. Why is it that whenever I select a wallpaper to set on my desktop it forces me to crop just a portion of the picture instead of allowing the entire picture to be used on the home screen? I'm making sure that the size of the wallpaper is correct, but despite my attempts, no matter what site I download the wallpaper from it still insists on making me crop just a portion of the pic to use. Anyone know how to help with this?

can we get some HD wallpapers with the new robot? And when I say HD, I mean at least 2160x1920, which can be put on an S4 or shrunk to 1440x1280 on S3. If I had the money for Photoshop, I'd try, but Photoscape and the phone apps don't do the trick to make lo res pics look nice,

When I fire up an emulator using Eclipse and have a look at live wallpapers, the two default wallpapers - Cube and Cube Resources - show as grayed-out icons that look like the image is missing.
The wallpaper I have written is exactly the same, the proper image doesn't show. Doesn't work on my phone either.
Howeever, if I go into manage services in the settings screen in the emulator, the proper icon is showing. Its showing as the service icon but not the application icon.
Ive got: <application android:label="@string/wallpapers" android:debuggable="true" android:icon="@drawable/foo">
with foo.pmg, foo.jpg in drawable all being accepted by the IDE but not showing as the application icon.
As I say, the default cube live wallpaper doesn't show its correct icon either - I downloaded the source and recompiled, same thing.

Can't get actions like: # android.wallpaper.tap # android.home.drop
I tried on Cube Wallpaper example by adding to CubeEngine class:
@Override public Bundle onCommand(String action, int x, int y, int z,
Bundle extras, boolean resultRequested) {
System.out.println("action" + action);
return super.onCommand(action, x, y, z, extras, resultRequested);}
No actions happens by tapping dropping and etc.

Anyone with launcher pro knows that regular wallpapers create a bad gradient with widgets and wallpapers themselves as it allows the launcher to work faster(?). Live wallpapers eliminate this. However I am unable to find a live wallpaper that just uses a regular image. Is there an app for that already or can someone make one? I don't imagine it would be very hard.

Could it be possible to make each screen have a different wallpaper while scrolling? I mean, taking as an example a case with three screens, it will be necessary to set a x3 screen width wallpaper to fit 1/3 on each screen, or directly setting different images for each screen. so the scrolling make it visually a different wallpaper on each screen rather than sliding the wallpaper a 50% each side.

I have a G1, love it, but it has a wimpy battery as many of us know. I have been wondering if widgets, desktop icons and even the choice of wallpaper, or picture that is used for the desktop background make any real difference in battery life. No matter how I use the phone, the display is always the main or at least major component of battery usage.
I read on an android website that desktop widgets do tax the battery and it was also suggested that having all three desktops full of icons also does so. Lastly, I was thinking that a black desktop ( I took a picture of a piece of black paper ) would use the least battery because the screen is not producing any light. Any input on these things ? If it would give appreciably better battery life, I would black out the desktops as I have done and not have any icons or widgets.
