Android :: Set Ringtone From Sd Card

I was wondering if anyone knows how to set a ringtone from the sdcard correctly cause obviously I'm doing it wrong. For some reason, I'll set the ringtone(it's actually picked randomly) as the default ringtone using the RingtoneManager.setActualDefaultRingtoneUri() method. This works, and it show's that ringtone as the default ringtone in the settings menu (as well as plays the correct tone), but when I get called it plays a system ring instead of that default ringtone I set. Has anyone else ran into this problem?? I've been looking everywhere online with no luck. I actually have a feeling it has something with the formatting of the Uri but I'm not sure on how else to format it.
My current format: Uri ringtoneUri = Uri.fromFile(new File(directory +"/" + ringtones.get (whatTone)));
directory = "/sdcard/media/ringtones" --- Just an example, this is actually user generated ringtones.get(whatTone) = "BlindedInChains.mp3" --- Also just an example
End result of this format: "file:///sdcard/media/ringtones/BlindedInChains.mp3"
Is this wrong?

My goal is to set the users notification sound from a file that is stored onto the SD card from with in the application. I am using this code:

When I run this on the device I keep getting the error:

I have seen others using this technique and I can't find any documentation on which values actually need to be passed in to successfully add the file into the Android system so that it can be set as a notification.

I am trying to download a ringtone onto my phone (which apparently gets downloaded to my sd card under download) but its saying I have no available space. Its a 2 gig mem card and i have 1.7 gigs left on it thats completely free. And my phone has 99mb of internal memory free. So a few hundred kb ringtone should not be saying this.

just changed my rom to 10.1 cm, but even that i changed my ringtone to a different one from my sdcard, and it is saving my choice - when someone calls me - it doesn't play that song.if i change it to the deafault ringtones of the device - it changes, but not with my music files.

It started last night. I got an email and "Glory Days" starts playing after the phone vibrated. I got an email and some other song started. This afternoon I get a call and Dr. Dre starts playing!
In every case, this was not the set ringtone, nor even in the ringtone list! These are songs from my SD card! - What the heck! Any idea how this could have happened? If it was all my SMS or email or calls, I would say its an app, but its been Everything!

I've noticed a special ringtone that is used when your SD card is mounted to your PC. I like it, and would like to use it for my default ringtone, but it doesn't seem to be an option, nor can I find it anywhere in the file system. Also, when I asked the folks at HTC where the file was located, they conveniently dodged my question and and told me how to add new ringtones to my SD card. (not surprised).

I'd like to set a new default ringtone without using the ringtone picker. In other words, there is a certain ringtone that is already installed on my system, and I want to programmatically set it to be my default ringtone without any human interaction. The reason I want this is because every time I reboot my N-1, my previous default ringtone setting gets forgotten, and I am given another ringtone that I don't like. I want to set up an app that I can run manually (or better yet, to cause to automatically run upon startup) which will reset my default ringtone to the one that I like without my having to manually do this via the Settings.
The only examples I have found so far for doing this involve using the ringtone picker, but as far as I can tell, this requires human interaction, which I want to avoid.

I purchased my moment about 2 weeks ago and have been having fun figuring it out however there are some areas where I am having problems.
1. When you want to attach a document it selects the picture folder/area, how do you browse instead of being forced into that area.
2. I downloaded ringtone app and have found the app quite useful, the problem I am having is, the ringtones I have created don't show up in all the ringtone areas of my phone, what needs to be done to correct this.
3. The basic user guide that comes with the phone says there is an app I can download called samsung new pc studio. When I call sprint or samsung they say this app is not available or can't be used by a casd(the u.s. standard, I think casd is right), they say this software is only for the other standard, I did find this app on the web. Is what sprint and samsung saying true if not can I use the ones I found on the web.
4. If you could choose only ten apps to have(free)which ones would you choose?

I used the htc ringtone trimmed for one of the song in my music library on my phone and I'm sorry if there is already a thread for this but how are you able to delete these ringtones when you no longer want them? The program its self works fine for making ringtones but I cannot find anyway to delete them. I even looked in Astro. If someone doesnt mind could they please lend some advice on this. I've searched in the forums and I havnt found a solution to it.

My fiance upgraded from LG Voyager to Droid 2. She wanted her old ringtones from the Verizon Media store so she downloaded them. When she stored them they were given default names. I was able to make the appropriate ringtone associations, except for voicemail. I have 2 questions:
1. How do you set a ringtone for voicemail? When I run the standard voicemail app (Verizon) I cannot being up a menu.
2. How do I change the name of a ringtone file?

Hey all, so I just got a Samsung Galaxy finally in the mail. It took long enough to figure out how to put music on it, then use my music for ringtones. But when I am in Settings for Notification Ringtones, I do not see the mp3 I added but only in Calling Ringtones. Why is this? I want to use the same ringtone for notifications too!.

After applying SRE v1.2.3 (…… SRE v1.2.3… | Root + OC 1.2GHz + MobileAP + USB Tether + LagFix - xda-developers), my notification ringtone sucks. I have changed it many times but it still plays the "cloud" ringtone. Any ideas?

In 1.5, I can't set ringtone for my own app's notification and neither can I get any notification sound.

Im wanting to know what is the best ringtone app out there? i have tried a couple and i cant really find anything i like. i dont want one that doesnt have music ringtones, i dont really care about funny sound clips or anything like that. i also dont want ringdroid because i want pre-edited ringtones. also how do i get these ringtones to show up in my ringtone folder?

is it possible to set a notification sound for SMS and a different one for E-mails? or, better yet, a notification sound for SMS from number X, other for other numbers, and other for E-mails? I guess an app would be needed.

I like to use custom sounds/ringtones for my incoming text messages. The one I currently have is about twenty seconds long. Anyway, I was at work the other day doing a presentation and I thought I had my phone on vibrate. I did not and received a text message and the ringtone went off. I pushed the volume button down to silence it but it would not. If the phone is in lock mode, is it not possible to silence a message?

I'm a newbie and having serious trouble searching the forum. I'm not really experienced in using forums, however it seems even when i search terms that should be popular I often get "no results found"...so please forgive me if this has been asked already, and if anybody can offer some advice on how to use the search option better it would be greatly appreciated.So here's my question, I have a ringtone from the Zedge app, the ring from the Crank movie. I like it for text notifications but it's kinda long, I would like to shorten it to just the first two blooo0o0op blo0o0oooops =] Any apps on the market where I can shorten it straight from my phone and save it easily..the easier to do the better!
