I am developing an Android app for a website. I'm trying to get some information from the website by sending a cookie using a HttpGet request. I don't know where I am going wrong with the request. I am using AsyncTask to send the request to the server. The request also uses a token which I receive when I login to the webpage. All this is clear in the code below. This is part of the process in the doInBackground() function of the Asynctask:
BufferedReader in = null;
JSONObject token = Login.getToken(); // Token received after login, used in the cookie
try {
r = token.get("session_token").toString();
} catch (JSONException e) {
// TODO Auto-generated catch block
e.printStackTrace();
[code]...

Android: 2.1 SDK
I have a hello.php running on standard Linux host. (Ubuntu 9.01 with Apache2 web server)
In android I have a simple activity which sends HttpPost or HttpGet to the above hello.php with some parameters in URL. Irrespective of HttpPost or HttpGet in my php always $_GET has values, $_POST is always empty.
How do I know in PHP if it was a post , get,put or a delete? $_REQUEST['REQUEST_METHOD'] is also always empty in my php.

I am writing an android application which uses a REST-based API on the server. So far the login works perfectly using HttpGet = I send the credentials, it sends me back a JSON response object containing session id or failure. I then moved onto using another get api (this one is passed the sessionid) and the response I get back looks like a valid one "200 - Ok" but the response body contains nothing - 0 text.
If I take the same URL and drop it into a browser, I get all the JSON text I expect displayed in the browser window. So what is the difference between a browser request/response and that of HttpGet? Any clues as to why my HttpGet might return a 'valid' nothing?

I have recently hit a snag using the Android plugin to Eclipse. For some reason, ALL of my errors being thrown don't initialize and show me the error. Has anyone ever seen this issue before and if so, what did you do to correct it? In particular, I am seeing it when I try to invoke the HTTPGet in a HTTPClient object. If I have no connectivity, then I should get an error. The Catch block does fire when this occurs...however, when I check my general Exception object, the object is NULL (NULL Pointer). Why would this happen if the catch is grabbing the exception?
My exceptions used to be working and I was able to see the stack trace. However, I can no longer see any stack trace regardless of the Exception class I am using. Can someone please help me understand what the heck is wrong with Eclipse, Android, or both? Is there something I am missing on the configuration side?...is this a bug? Mind you, I have already used Stack Overflow for this question. It has been viewed 40 times but no answer yet.

I'm writing an Android App and I'm looking for the fastest (In terms of setup) way for me to send data to a server and receive information back on request. We're talking basic stuff. I have a log file which tells me how a user is using my application (In beta, I wouldn't runin a user experience by constantly logging usually) and I want to communicate that to my server (That I haven't setup).
I don't need security, I don't need high throughput or concurrent connections (I have 3 phones to play with) but I do need to set it up fast! I remember back in the day that setting up XAMPP was particularly brainless, then maybe I could use PHP to send the file from the phone to the Server? The Server would ideally be able to respond to a GET which would allow me to send back some SQL statements which ultimately affect the UI. (It's meant to adapt the presented options depending on those most commonly used).
So there you have it, I used PHP about 4 years ago and will go down that route if it's the best but if there's some kind of new fangled port open closing binary streaming singing and dancing method that has superseeded that option I would love to know. This tutorial seems useful but I don't really need object serialization, just text files back and forth, compressed naturally. Android comes with the Apache HTTP Client 4.0 built in as well as java.net.URL and java.net.HttpUrlConnection, I'd rather not add too much bult to my App with third party libraries.

Our video server protect video data with cookie authentication. Video player app must authenticate and store session key to cookie strage before access to video server. First, My android video player app access to authentication server using HttpClient class in android library. Next, app access to video server with HttpClient's cookie data. But I think HttpClient can't pass cookie data to VideoView.

I have an application which uses a cookie to tie a user to a session on my server.
Is there a simple way to save and restore this cookie to a SQLiteDatabase so that the user does not have to reacquire the cookie every time the app starts?

I have saved a cookie in android. Now I want to pass it into my browser intent. Look at my current code:
Intent browser = new Intent("android.intent.action.VIEW",
Uri.parse("http://mypage.php/memberpagethatrequireacookie.php"));
//putExtra cannot take these arguments -> browser.putExtra("org.apache.http.cookie.Cookie", cookie);
startActivity(browser);
I want it to store temporarily in my browser so my member page loads successfully.
My cookie are successfully created from the HTTP request and I assign it to a List<Cookie> cookie;
Tell me if I should provide some more code.

For example, I want my users to be able to click a button "Get new quote" which will start a new row in the the database for data to start being stored, but I'm unsure of how to store activity independent (or cross activity) data, like the _id of the row, which I will need to requery and update the row when new data becomes available on subsequent activities. What's the name of this mechanism and how is it done?

I have an android app I want to connect to a Google App Engine based server. I can get the auth token from the AccountManager. It seems the next thing I am supposed to do is talk to an auth page to get a cookie. Following the awesome instructions here: http://blog.notdot.net/2010/05/Authenticating-against-App-Engine-from-an-Android-app
I think my url should be:
https://MYAPP.appspot.com/_ah/login?continue=http://localhost/&auth=CrAZYl000ngToken
but rather than a redirect, I get a 500 server error:
Error: Server Error
The server encountered an error and could not complete your request. If the problem persists, please report your problem and mention this error message and the query that caused it. What's up with that? What is the URL I am supposed to be going to? Or maybe I'm doing something else wrong?

I'm having some problems porting a Java application to work in Android platform. I detected an incompatibility problem between java sun and Adroid sdk in java.lang.Class. I oberved that: public Field[] getFields() Returns an array containing Field objects describing all fields which are defined. That's array is sorted as attributes are declared in the main Class in sun jdk. For example, next Class is defined as: public class Example { public boolean stop; public int atr1; public String name; ....
}

I do an import of the full package name / java file, and if I do a <classname>.<method>, SOMETIMES I can get it to access - other times I get a lot of can't use a static in a non static bunch of talk. I'll admit I'm new to Java, so what do I need to do? Call a class instance first, then call my methods? I'm rather confused by this, as I want to put all of my 'functions' into a FunctionsList.java file, and all of my main Activity (UI) into a MyActivity.java file.
For example:
<MyActivity.java>
import com.example.FunctionsList;
private class MyActivity extends Activity {
FunctionsList.function();
}
9/10 times I get that static/non-static error. If I put all of my functions into MyActivity.java, I have zero problems!
