Is it possible to develop/test/run applications without the slow emulator based on qemu? It thought Dalvik runs on a PC andn the platform is based on Java so it should be possible to test Android applications without that slow emulator. I imagined a GTK application that just opens a window and runs the app. This should be much faster than running the emulator.

I want to start playing around with Android. Downloaded the sources and followed the instructions from the download page
Made a plain generic build:

But how can i create an e.g.qemu image from that. I looked around the /out dir,found the host tools and the emulator but dont know where to start to get this running.
Is it possible to run the android image distributed with the SDK using the standard qemu executable (instead of the emulator executable)?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI was experimenting with QEMU, x86 emulator on Android on my Asus Memo FHD tab which is already based on an x86 Atom architecture.
I see way slower speeds (unusable) than I read about arm based counterparts. I assume this is because QEMU assumes ARM architecture and the x86 atom is also emulating ARM.
-Is there an other way to emulate a complete x86 system faster on this architecture?

What i like about nokia is the pc suite(the older version) it syncs automatically with bluetooth. (files, pictures etc) and can read sms messages.
What ive read so far, theres no alternative on android?
Bluetooth handsfree- The current n82 connects fine to the car stereo,- and can accpets calls etc.
This seems to be a problem on android,-dependent on phone and android version. Is this correct?
Regarding programs, i have a call manager with whitelack lists, answering machine and scheduler. And a program that can record conersations.
Are there any android programs that can do the same thing?

I was wondering how the applications currently available for the Andriod phones compare to iPhones applications? I really love the iPhone and it's apps but wouldn't go to AT&T for it and want to know if I'm going to be disappointed with the Apps for Andriod once I get the Hero after seeing what the iPhone has to offer.

Finally I got connection error, before it reached the end. There is a wiki app and the T-mobile minutes app I want and I could not find them. There has to be a better way to find and download apps. Is there a t-mobilde or google web site that has a list of the apps available? Also the search does not work, I tried "wiki" and got a few hits, but there were many apps with wiki in title it did not find.

View 3 Replies View RelatedBrand new to droid land, and was wondering.yesterday I got a droid 2. from playing with it all day, at the end of the day, it seemed overly sluggish. so, I was wondering ,when I am in an application like the browser, to exit it, I just tap the hooked arrow key on the phone, guess it's like a back button. anyhow, I just tap that until I get back to the home screen. so, if I do that for every application I run, does that mean at the days end, I've got however many apps running in the background?

If I want to search for "keyboard", for example, I have to search through an assload of skins to find an actual program. Same when I tried to search for Open Home--again, an assload of skins. Am I missing something, or is there a better way to search/sort searches rather than having to sort through, for example, the 464 results for Open Home?

Kind of kills the whole idea of having these apps, anyone know of a non root work around as the cellular south HTC Hero cannot be rooted without major issues?

We are enjoying finding apps and all that stuff, but one thing I haven't been able to figure out is how we can share applications between us. Granted I dont want to illegally share apps with random people and friends, just between my wife. Not big into paying for 1 app 2 times so that we can share an experience. We both have ipod touch's, and we have always been able to share the apps with that by my 'authorizing' her ipod to match mine. She still has her email and all that, just we share a purchasing account. I imagine there is a backdoor way to copy apps and api's, but i dont want to get into that. I used to have a custom rom winmo and part of the appeal of the droid was it would do everything i want without having to crack it. I heard google was thinking about app sharing, and app2sd is in official development, but is there anything I can do now?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been using the HTC Magic with the updated HTC Sense UI for about 6 months now.Recently, whenever I use an app after a few minutes it will just close. The behaviour is erratic and does not always happen but sometimes it will just close. It doesn't give the message that it has crashed but it just quits completely. This happens to built-in apps like the Market and Gmail.Nothing has really changed although I have installed/uninstalled a couple of apps. Nothing that should affect this though.

As you may or may not know, UK users of Googlemail have recently been able to switch to a Gmail account. I did this and it caused problems with signing into Gtalk (even though there were no problems signing into Gmail via the Gmail app). I've since followed some advice found elsewhere to go into Gmail, then Settings, then Accounts and Import and to change my address back to @googlemail.com. Doing this has allowed me to sign in to the Gtalk app, and I can see my friends on the friends list but I can't send messages. I always get the message "This message couldn't be sent". Any ideas how to fix this one error in the Gtalk app?

When I see a free application which I like and use if an Advertisement comes up which even vaguely interests me I will normally click on it. This I guess is my way of saying thanks to the dev for not only making the app but for keep it free. Who here uses the Ad's in apps? Do you do it because you know it will help the dev out or just because you where interested in the product the Ad was pitching?

But in the back of my mind I'm wondering why this product is free. Part of my concern is PandaHome has access to many key parts of my Android phone, like contacts, etc. Is it somehow tracking / using my data or my use of the phone for some other marketing purposes?
