Rogers has disabled internet on their HTC Dream phones (among others).There is a software update that must be done, but you need to back up your data, etc.before doing the update.I do NOT have any backup apps on my phone. Without internet, I cannot get to the market to download one.How am I supposed to backup my Dream?

I bought the HTC Magic from Rogers instead of t-mobile, thinking 3G will work. I entered the unlock code included in my phone purchase. AT&T calls work fine, however I can't get 3G NOR edge working. No cellular data is being transfered.

Obviously I could download the photo from the Twitter client so I chose to view the pic via internet to my surprise I still couldn't download the photo.it allows me to view but no download option. View 5 Replies View RelatedJust wanted to relay my issues that occurred with Startup Auditor. I use a Moto Droid 2.0.1.
First issue: I disabled Google Talk Startup as non of my friends have an Android device. This caused an issue with the Market. none of my apps would download the updates and I could not Download new apps. The Market is somehow connected to Google Talk. After enabling Talk and logging back in my apps started downloading.
Second issue: I disabled the stock messaging app because I am using Handcent SMS. This caused my text messages to delete themselves. When I opened my messaging treads all that was shown was my side of the conversation. After re enabling the stock Messaging app my messages started downloading and showing up in the treads. Handcent must use some of the same things that the stock app uses and Startup Editor was killing.
I have here a function that downloads data from a remote server to file. I am still not confident with my code. My question is, what if while reading the stream and saving the data to a file and suddenly I was disconnected in the internet, will these catch exceptions below can really catch that kind of incident? If not, can you suggest how to handle this kind of incident?
I call this function in a thread so that the UI won't be blocked.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have been having 3G issues on my captivate for a while. I can browse the web just fine and email, text, mms all fine. But downloading apps or things that need continuous internet download (i.e. speed test) will start then stop very slowly. The 3G window in the status bar will then flash occasionally but primarily stay unlit. I've hoped that it would continue to download, but after leaving my phone with the screen off for over an hour with an app downloading (only 2mb) gone from 20kb downloaded to 50kb and my battery went from 80 to 30. This happens for every app I attempt to download over 3G (wifi is perfectly fine) no matter what the size. Any idea why it seems to put the download into the background. I'm currently running cognition mod v2.3b2. This has happened on all versions of cognition I've had. I'm pretty sure it happened while I had stock 2.1 also.

Some of the guys here have implemented a few security features so other people around us can hack our network. The WIFI is encrypted with WPA2 and a password.After that to surf on the internet on my laptop I have to input a proxy address of 10.10.8.2, I can connect to the wireless via my Desire, but I cant surf the internet, check email, or do anything that requires a data connection.Other people here have no problem getting their Ipod touches and Iphones on the WIFI.Is there some setting I am over looking because to me there are not a lot of settings I can change in the first place.If I need to download a program to help, please give info how to do so without an internet connection directly on the phone.

The correct settings are now in but the MMS is stuck at "downloading" status. Is there any way I can rescue it, there is no forward option and I've successfully sent and recieved MMS since.

I've got a rogers branded magic, I love it, but I would like to try some other keyboard skins, I have installed better keyboard as well as acre different skins. I go to the options for text input and set it to use better keyboard, but when I actually pull up the keyboard is the same old keyboard. Am I doing something wrong or has rogers somehow locked the keyboard??

I currently don't have a PDA plan but a Unlimited Media Net plan that I was using with another PDA phone but doesn't work on the Magic. I'm willing to upgrade to a PDA plan but if I can't have 3g...Well I know I can, since Rogers and ATT use the same 3g frequency but the real question is why I havn't seen the icon?

All of that went well, and I can use the phone to make call and can connect for data via WiFi, but cannot get any over-the-air data connection. I have an unlimited media net subscription. I get a 3g connection on my Samsung Eternity at my house, but nothing on the Magic. Any suggestions?

I have not been around in some time, just wanted to know if there is any way to get update onto a Rogers Canada HTC magic. Im using system version 1.5. And i feel like that has to be something better.
View 8 Replies View RelatedMost websites indicated that the Rogers Magic has a 288MB RAM, but when i downloaded many apps that show me the capacity and usage of the RAM they all indicated that the phone's "Available" memory is only 191.5MB.. found another site that sells the same phone (Rogers Magic) with a 192MB RAM in the specs... are there two versions of the phone, or is it something else... the seller is refusing the take the phone back blaming my ignorance of how RAM works... Does the OS and other apps on the phone cut down the available memory?

I've been trying a couple(bigkeys, handcent keyboard) because I heard they may be less laggy. However, I just get the same keyboard as before. I go to settings > locale & text and then select the bigkeys or whatever but it doesn't change anything. Do I need to disable the standard keyboard somehow? I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

I've been waiting for rogers to come out with a new android phone for a while, as I'm kind of hesitant to buy an "older" android phone like the magic or dream, and I'm kind of disappointed that they've come out with this lg... While I don't know much about the hardware, I've always had nothing but problems with LG phones.
