View 3 RepliesI'm writing an android program for adding task and deleting task in listview. I've add an onClickListener to the delete button so it can delete the task. However I was told I should not have the listener in the adapter violating mvc. how I can remove a task in my TaskListItem class. I got the method removeTask() in the adapter, but don't how I can use it in the TaskListItem class.

Is there an app for choosing which apps you want to use that are already open or whatever. Or is there a button you can press to bring up a task list like you do with you blackberry when u hold the blackberry key and the list of open apps comes out.

View 18 Replies View RelatedI've been using Task Panel X and Advanced Task manager to kill unneeded tasks and keep memory at a maximum.
Recently, every time I open Task Panel X and then revert back to Home screen I get the HTC logo and then a loading screen while the device sets itself. This happens even if I kill NO tasks.
So my solution was to uninstall Task Panel X and then use just Advanced Task Manager. All the sudden, same result.
Everytime I open either of these apps and then go back to home screen I get a BLACK SCREEN WITH HTC LOGO, THEN A BRIEF (10 SECONDS) LOADING SCREEN. THEN ALL IS NORMAL.
I know this was talked about before at different times but I still have 3 questions.
1. what is the difference between a task killer and a task manager?
2. should we be using one of these apps or not?
3. when you look at the awake time if it is like 70% or 80% and you aren't using the phone a bunch I take it that means something is running, how can you find what is running.and is the awake time that big of deal?
Looking for a guide on how to use task killer. I had task killer on and deleted it. I think I was killing tasks that were needed to keep certain functions running that I use frequently. If someone would take the time to help me understand how to use one, I think I would be much more successful with it.
example - text messaging just stopped ( werrent receiving them ) . Once I took task killer off, everything started working again.
Anyway, I just wanted for everyone to post their favorite Task Manager/Killer, and why, and if there are any flaws. I personally use Advanced Task Killer Free. It has a simple UI, and the when you select or unselect apps it remebers it so next time you launch the app you can only remove the apps that you usually do, and keep ones that always run. It doesn't slow down or break the system.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a few questions about Task managers. At the moment I'm using ES Task manager. It works well and has a nice interface. My questions are.
A) Does the Android OS even need a task manager? Some say their not needed. The ones I've used do clear out tasks, frees up memory, and saves on the systems load.
B) What tasks should I clear?Lets say for example I killed voice mail at startup. Does this mean If someone called I would not receive voice mail until I reloaded the voice mail app, or would the phone see a voice mail is incoming and reload the program?
It's on the task bar right next to the sync icon, it's the shape of a cell phone. It wasn't there the past couple of days until this morning, weird.

I've written a new task manager / system information app called "SystemPanel". It displays a list of running applications, and allows you to view information about them, e.g., memory consumption, when they were started, how much CPU time they've used since start, and so on. It of course provides "task killing" capabilities; it can end individual apps, all apps, or groups of apps such as "inactive" or "background" apps.
It also provides meters to show you current CPU consumption, network use, memory use, and SD card use. A "system info" function is available from the menu that provides all the gory details about your phone, everything from your Wi-Fi router's mac address to your Android build number.
A word of warning....SystemPanel does NOT offer a capability to automatically kill tasks in order to "save battery life". I disagree with the idea that such a thing would offer an improvement. The Android OS does a fine job of this all by itself, and such a capability would only be helpful if an app were suffering from a bug (or poorly written), such that is consumed battery unnecssarily in a semi-dormant state. And in that case, killing it every few minutes isn't going to solve the problem...one needs to uninstall it or contact the developer. If you happen to know a technically sound reason why such a task killing strategy is beneficial with well written apps, please let me know, and I'll be happy to rethink this. If you do want such functionality, there are tons of other task killers that supposedly have this feature.
Recommend a task killer that actually works for froyo on my motodroid.maybe one that doesn't kill my batery as well.

View 30 Replies View RelatedIs a task killer really necessary? I haven't really noticed any benefit in using it. I am beginning to think it's like a Windows registry cleaner -- sounds good in theory, but pretty much useless with the ability to really screw things up, if you don't know what you're doing.
View 1 Replies View Relatedadvanced task killer? or the other one called task killer? and what else is out there to see whats running as far as apps and services?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just got my first smartphone, a Samsung Galaxy S through US Cellular (the Mesmerize). It runs Android 2.1 Eclair, and is supposed to be updated to Froyo before the end of the year.
When I got the phone, the person at US Cellular installed Advanced Task Killer on my phone and said I should use it to free up memory and save battery life. So at first I was using it, and it did free up a lot of memory when I pressed the kill tasks button. But then I had some issues like Winamp getting killed when it was playing music in the background. This prompted me to look more into task killers and I found a lot of conflicting information. Some people say they are bad and don't help and cause trouble on the phone, others said just the opposite. There were some specific comments about ATK saying it can corrupt the OS. This all made me very nervous and I'm not sure what to believe. So for now I have uninstalled ATK. What input do you guys have about task killers?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI had a very good task manager when I first got my phone (2 weeks ago) but have since then uninstalled it. I know task killers a basically useless but I do have the odd instance where and program crashes and I need to kill the process. From what I can remember the task manager had 3 screens which had the following :-
Screen 1
Currently running programs, press the app to kill it.
Screen 2
The uninstall screen.
Screen 3
Cpu % used and space remaining on the phone and SD.
I've been searching around recently for a widget/app that'd allow me to input events and either pop up on my front screen reminding me (The day of/Before.. or whatever) or that I could have at the top of my following screen as the widget and have had no luck.
I'd like this to remind me of certain events that can go about slipping my mind (Student loans due on this day.. Flight leaving at this/that time) Or the general factor that there are a multitude of things to do and it's nice to stay organized.
I decided to root my g1 yesterday and I have been hearing that you can get a task manager for rooted g1's but I can't find it. Only app that I can find is one of then android market for .99 usd.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI dont know why i havent heard more about this app on here but this thing is great if you have a rooted G1. You can stop any application at anytime from a simple window. I woke up this morning and had 8 programs running - they started by themselves in my sleep but stop them all and freed up 21708 worth of memory. Phone zooms after this quick step. Its a free app in the market. Take a look at it if you havent already.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIs there a non-root task-manager that I can use to end unwanted tasks? I don't really want to root my phone but I would like the ability to end apps (games, maps, etc.) when I'm done with them rather than having them run in the background.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an app on my daughters phone that will not allow her to text and drive. The problem is she can use any task killer and kill the app and bypass the application. So my question is, is there a way to hide an app from the task killers, or have the app check to see if it is running, and if not restart its self?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've read around alot about people saying task killers aren't needed because Android is Linux based (not windows) and can handle all the apps in the background so theres not need for a task killer. My question is arent there apps or services that take up alot of memory and shouldn't be constantly running (without you knowing that is) For example there are apps that constantly update (recieve data) like Mail or twitter or Anti-virus (which constantly is on the guard for new apps or settings being changed). I also noticed that after taking pictures with my phone camera it said the camera was running when i already closed it. i checked running services under the settings and the camera was taking 74% of my usage (i did refresh many times to make sure it was running). I've came to the conclusion that task killer is good for a few apps that are constantly running in the background but not as much for apps that don't constantly run in the background (like games, after you close them)
