Android :: Task - Event Manager

Jun 17, 2010

I've been searching around recently for a widget/app that'd allow me to input events and either pop up on my front screen reminding me (The day of/Before.. or whatever) or that I could have at the top of my following screen as the widget and have had no luck.

I'd like this to remind me of certain events that can go about slipping my mind (Student loans due on this day.. Flight leaving at this/that time) Or the general factor that there are a multitude of things to do and it's nice to stay organized.

Sprint HTC Hero :: Task Panel X - Advanced Task Manager - Causing Errors

Nov 7, 2009

I've been using Task Panel X and Advanced Task manager to kill unneeded tasks and keep memory at a maximum.

Recently, every time I open Task Panel X and then revert back to Home screen I get the HTC logo and then a loading screen while the device sets itself. This happens even if I kill NO tasks.

So my solution was to uninstall Task Panel X and then use just Advanced Task Manager. All the sudden, same result.

Everytime I open either of these apps and then go back to home screen I get a BLACK SCREEN WITH HTC LOGO, THEN A BRIEF (10 SECONDS) LOADING SCREEN. THEN ALL IS NORMAL.

HTC Droid Eris :: Task Killer - Task Manager

Dec 11, 2009

I know this was talked about before at different times but I still have 3 questions.

1. what is the difference between a task killer and a task manager?

2. should we be using one of these apps or not?

3. when you look at the awake time if it is like 70% or 80% and you aren't using the phone a bunch I take it that means something is running,how can you find what is running.and is the awake time that big of deal?

Sprint HTC Hero :: How To Use - Task Manager - Task Killer App

Oct 15, 2009

Looking for a guide on how to use task killer. I had task killer on and deleted it. I think I was killing tasks that were needed to keep certain functions running that I use frequently. If someone would take the time to help me understand how to use one, I think I would be much more successful with it.

example - text messaging just stopped ( werrent receiving them ) . Once I took task killer off, everything started working again.

Android :: Favorite Task Killer - Manager - Advanced Task Killer Free

Aug 22, 2009

Anyway, I just wanted for everyone to post their favorite Task Manager/Killer, and why, and if there are any flaws. I personally use Advanced Task Killer Free. It has a simple UI, and the when you select or unselect apps it remebers it so next time you launch the app you can only remove the apps that you usually do, and keep ones that always run. It doesn't slow down or break the system.

Android :: OS Need Task Manager?

Jul 30, 2010

I have a few questions about Task managers. At the moment I'm using ES Task manager. It works well and has a nice interface. My questions are.

A) Does the Android OS even need a task manager?Some say their not needed. The ones I've used do clear out tasks, frees up memory, and saves on the systems load.

B) What tasks should I clear?Lets say for example I killed voice mail at startup. Does this mean If someone called I would not receive voice mail until I reloaded the voice mail app, or would the phone see a voice mail is incoming and reload the program?

Android :: Rooted G1's - Task Manager

Feb 18, 2009

I dont know why i havent heard more about this app on here but this thing is great if you have a rooted G1. You can stop any application at anytime from a simple window. I woke up this morning and had 8 programs running - they started by themselves in my sleep but stop them all and freed up 21708 worth of memory. Phone zooms after this quick step. Its a free app in the market. Take a look at it if you havent already.

Android :: Task - Todo - Manager With Categories

Aug 11, 2010

I just got a Droid Incredible. I am trying to set it up some some things I need right away. I need a task (todo) manager. I have a rental business and I need to be able to categorize tasks - i.e. rental repairs, rental tenants, rental finance, etc. I like things categorized so that I can display all the tasks in a certain category. Most todo list managers I have looked at, show every task in the same list. So if you've got 200 tasks, you have to scroll through all of them to find the ones related to a certain topic. this is a pain. I would like to have one of the home screens devoted to the task mananger for quick access.

Android :: Don't Need Task Manager To Shut-down Apps

Nov 29, 2009

I've had my hero for 3 or 4 days now.I understand that i do not need a task manager to shut-down apps, but don't fully understand how this works,since apps like Pandora (music streaming) and sportypal (gps tracking) continue to run in the "background." Adding to my confusion is the fact that I'm noticing the phone get sluggish lately, even after a fresh reboot, with only two programs running (Pandora and sportypal). The past 3 days, there were no problems, but now I cannot run with music because the music continues to skip - and pandora becomes unresponsive.I thought perhaps there were too many apps (I've downloaded about a dozen apps) and so I uninstalled most of them.No better.What, if anything, am I missing? Can I be low on space or memory, or what?

Skype Mobile (Never Used)
Social Networking (Never Used)

Android :: Which Applications To Exclude In Advanced Task Manager?

Nov 19, 2009

First post, just registered, thought it'd be a great idea since I have the Droid. Have had the Advanced Task Manager and I love it, but it seems as though when I end all tasks(which I usually do to save time from individually picking which ones should be ended), it might mess with my network/system processes. I recently did a factory reset because my GPS wasn't tracking my location well. I tried to just power off the phone and see if my GPS could locate me, but it couldn't. When I first got the phone the GPS would pick me up and track me if I was moving just like that. I was afraid the task manager could have messed something up with my network processes. Any ideas?

Android :: Prevent App / Service From Being Killed From Task Manager?

May 7, 2010

It is very important that my service stay running until someone with a password stops the service from my UI screen. My app runs great but it is designed to be turned on/off by parents (with a password) on their kids phones. I have managed to make everything work but the problem I'm having is that if the kid uses a task manager to kill my service then my app is useless. I would be grateful to anyone who knows a way to either

1) monitor the service and start it back up automatically if its "killed"
or
2) prevent someone from being able to kill it except from the activity (administration screen) that launched the service. Or both?

Android :: Avoid Launching A Task Twice From Notification Manager?

From notification manager, how do I resume a task instead of creating a new instance of it?

I want to create a link in the status bar on the phone through notification manager. When I click on it, I want want a particular task to come to the foreground.

However, it seems my code always launch a new task even if there is an existing one running. For example, I click on the link the first time, a task shows up. When I click the second time, I see an animated task showing up again ... repeat that 5 times. And then when I hit "back" button, the 5 instances will disappear one by one (proving it's not just a single instance). code...

Android :: Generic Task Manager Class For Application / No Dismiss Dialog

Nov 15, 2010

I have a class which extends AsyncTask, which is intended to serve as a generic task manager class for my application. The strange behavior is that the progress dialog shows up, but is never dismissed. I am sure that onPostExecute() gets called for every task instance, as any Log.d("","") statements fire if placed in here, even the Toast messages show up from within this method, but I am not able to dismiss the static dialog. I understand that AsyncTask(s) have access to UI thread at only 2 places [onPreExecute() and onPostExecute()], so I think trying to dismiss the dialog in runOnUiThread() is unnecessary. All calls to executeTask() are made from different onCreate() methods of different activities that need to fetch some data over network before populating some of their UI elements, and I always pass the current activity's context to the tasks. As I do not switch activities until after the related tasks are completed, I believe the activity context objects are still valid (am I wrong to have assumed this???) I have never found any of them to be null while debugging.

Could this be a timing issue? I have also observed that most of the times DDMS shows all tasks get completed before the activity is displayed. If I use new Handler().postDelayed(runnable_which_calls_these_tasks,10); in the onCreate(), and add delaying code in foo_X(), the activities are displayed without any delay, but the dialog will just not dismiss(). I have read through quite a number of articles on this issue but am still not able to figure out exactly where am I going wrong. I do not want to define each task as private inner class Task1 extends AsyncTask<> in all of my activity classes and I would not want to (unless this is the only solution) load my application object with all activity references either as mentioned in this discussion: Is AsyncTask really massively flawed or am I just missing something?. I have spent a week on this and am absolutely clueless :( It would be great if someone can guide me, and let me know what am I missing. Following is the class definition: [I've removed some irrelevant application specific code for clarity]

public class NetworkTask extends AsyncTask<Void, Integer, Boolean> {
private Context UIcontext;
private int operationType;
private static ProgressDialog dialog;
private static int taskCount;
private NetworkTask(int operationType Context context){ this.UIcontext = context;
this.operationType = operationType;
if (taskCount++ == 0) dialog = ProgressDialog.show(context,"","Loading...");
}

public static Boolean executeTask(int operationType, Context context) { return new NetworkTask(operationType, context).execute().get();
} @Override protected void onPreExecute(){ super.onPreExecute();
if (taskCount == 1) dialog.show();
} @Override protected Boolean doInBackground(Void... arg0) { switch(operationType){ case TYPE_1: foo1();
break; case TYPE_2: foo2(); break;
case TYPE_3 foo3(); break; case TYPE_4: foo4(); break;
} @Override protected void onPostExecute(Boolean result) { super.onPostExecute(result);
taskCount--;
if (dialog.isShowing() && taskCount == 0){ dialog.dismiss();
}else { Toast.makeText(UIcontext, "Task#"+ operationType+", m done, but there are "+taskCount+" more", 5).show();
} } }
