Android :: Relative Layout And Button To The Left Of TextView

The problem is that the text view gets squished to the left of the screen.I want the Button to be squished to the right and the TextView take up all the remaining space.I can't use 'Fill Layout' on the TextView because the button then gets removed from the View completely.

Android :: Get Ellipsize To Work On A Multiline TextView?

Jun 10, 2009

I have a couple questions on ellipsize on the TextView...

1) Is there anyway to get ellipsize to work on a multiline TextView? So that the ellipses are shown at the end of the text, rather than at the end of the line? If not what is the best way to handle this on my own?]

2) Is there any way to change the character used for eellipsize? For example, use "... [Read More]", this obviously coincides with question 1 above since one wouldn't want to take half of the single line to say read more, but on a multiline, it would be nice to be able to have like 3 or 4 lines and then a read more? Maybe there is a better way to do this that I haven't figured out yet?

2) Can relative positions be specified in terms of percentage of screen width/height instead of pixels?

Android :: Relative Layout Limitation - Aligning Items Between Groups

Aug 4, 2009

Is it true that if you have a ViewGroup, say a RadioGroup, you can't align items outside the group to ones inside the group (using toRightOf, alignTop, etc.) That is, does toRightOf, toLeftOf and the rest only work with views at the same hierarchy level? I was trying to label some vertical radio buttons today and find I can only align to the RadioGroup and not the buttons inside the group.

If I remove the RadioGroup, then I can align things OK. There are lots of workarounds, of course, so I'm not stuck. Just thought I'd ask and document. And, BTW, where is the hot sh*t resource editor for Android so I can bang out screens quickly like the iphone guys, using a visual interface designer that knows all these silly interactions? The tools I've seen so far have been toys.

Android :: Relative Layout XML Attributes Have No Obvious Programmatic Equivalent

Jun 16, 2009

If a RelativeLayout must be generated at run time, what are the equivalent API calls for the attributes set in the XML Layout editor? Take for example this very simple RelativeLayout that places the second ImageView to the right of the first ImageView:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/ android"
android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:orientation="horizontal" android:background="@drawable/ bg_sunrise"
android:layout_gravity="center" android:gravity="center">
<ImageView android:id="@+id/ImageView01" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:src="@drawable/icon"></ ImageView>
<ImageView android:id="@+id/ImageView02" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_toRightOf="@id/ ImageView01" android:src="@drawable/icon"></ImageView> </RelativeLayout>

Of the many, variations I tried, I had the most hope for this one, but it didn't work either:

protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
this.requestWindowFeature(Window.FEATURE_NO_TITLE);
RelativeLayout layout = new RelativeLayout(this);
layout.setLayoutParams( new ViewGroup.LayoutParams (
LayoutParams.FILL_PARENT, LayoutParams.FILL_PARENT ) );
ImageView imageView1 = new ImageView(this);
imageView1.setImageResource(R.drawable.icon);
imageView1.setAdjustViewBounds(true);
// set the ImageView bounds to match the Drawable's dimensions
RelativeLayout.LayoutParams params1 = new RelativeLayout.LayoutParams (LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT, LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT);
params1.addRule(RelativeLayout.ALIGN_PARENT_TOP); layout.addView(imageView1, params1);
ImageView imageView2 = new ImageView(this); imageView2.setImageResource(R.drawable.icon);
imageView2.setAdjustViewBounds(true); // set the ImageView bounds to match the Drawable's dimensions
RelativeLayout.LayoutParams params2 = new RelativeLayout.LayoutParams
(LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT, LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT);
params2.addRule(RelativeLayout.RIGHT_OF, imageView1.getId());
layout.addView(imageView2, params2); this.setContentView(layout); }

Can anyone offer the Java equivalent to the above XML? Can anyone explain why there is no attribute, getter/setter, or method for accessing the properties that can be set in XML? What is the most elegant solution for dynamically creating Layouts, Views, and other Resources on the Android platform when there is no Java programmatic equivalent?

Android :: Relative Layout In Java Code With Inflate And Custom View - Position Error

Jun 16, 2009

I have a custom view that I had to write for a large scrollable image, as the images are larger than the size of the screen. Before, I had tried to do it by putting the image into a ScrollView but that of course didn't work. The view itself is within a RelativeLayout within the activity and at the bottom of the screen I have two buttons that are used for navigation and at the top a TextView with a caption for the activity (the main header is already being used here for instruction). In my below code, I've checked the Hierachy Viewer to confirm all the elements are loaded and in the Activity I can see the TextView, however it overlays the ZN5ScrollView area and below the image I just have a blank area of the size defined rather than my buttons. For the bottom navigation, the Hierachy Viewer is saying the absolute_y of the bottom navigation is 480. I'm wondering if anyone can help with my layout code here to get this working correctly? Bottom navigation is 50px high, ZN5ScrollView is 365px above the navigation, and the TextView takes up the rest of the area at the top
