Android : Redundant Margins When Adding ImageView To ScrollView
Jun 8, 2010
I have been trying to use a ScrollView on a single ImageView with a JPG (~770 x 1024) over an AVD that's 600x800.
My main.xml is code...
It is important for me to avoid stretching the image. I can not use FIT_XY for ScaleType.
What is the recommended way to implement a display of a page that can be potentially scrolled?
Do I have to do it manually with a plain layout and scrolling upon GestureDetector.OnScroll events?

I have a problem with rendering a ScrollView. Essentially, the layout is fixed header and footer with a scrollview in the middle. The idea is that when the screen keyboard is activated for the content EditText the image can be scrolled if the height of the image is longer than the middle view.
In testing the layout, I've found that on my Android phone (Xperia X10 Android 1.6) there is a whole heap of padding added to the top and bottom of the ImageView.
How I can prevent this from happening.

I was looking over this code about extending an ImageView: http://marakana.com/forums/android/examples/98.html
And i was wondering how can i add the new View to an existing xml layout file, along with some other views.
Already i did this inside my main linear layout:
CODE:..........
But the problem is that this way the onDraw method doesn't get called.
Maybe some examples where you combine CustomViews with xml layout.

I must be overlooking something real simple here, but i think i'm trying to do something fairly basic.. Simply retain the scrollbar position of a ScrollView on orientation change...
Here is the code for my onSaveInstanceState and onRestoreInstanceState.. sView is the container for the ScrollView layout. Within my scrollview is a linearlayout with a lot of textviews.
CODE:............
If I set a Toast with the values of sViewX and sViewY on the Restore, the values are kept and correct.
I just tried to do a sView.scrollTo(0,150); in my onCreate.. just to see if that would open the activity at 150px down, and it didn't. I think my issue has to do with the .scrollTo method.

I want some of the goodies in a ListView, like being able to use a ListAdapter, and item selection, etc, but I don't want the ScrollView portion of it. I want to implement that part myself, in a different way (why or how I do this isn't really the point of this question, so please don't ask "why"). Is there a way to have a ListView that's not in a ScrollView or has the scrolling disabled?

I have a simple Android app that does some math on 2 numbers that the user inputs and returns the result.
Currently I have a 'calculate' button that needs to be pressed to do the math and return the value.
How can I get rid of this button and just get the app to run the math after the uses has changed either one of the 2 numbers?

I am trying to create a menu that slides up from the bottom. It starts with the menu's view just visible at the bottom of the screen, and then clicking it causes it to slide up.I tried using a TranslateAnimation, but although the pixels move, the hit areas of the menu are in the same position as before. So I think that if I can adjust the menu's margins after the animation is complete, this will accomplish what I want. However, I can't figure out how to adjust the margins.I've tried to create a LinearLayout.LayoutMargins object and then set its margins and apply it to the menu's view (which is a LinearLayout), but this doesn't work.

I have a FrameView that's created in my XML layout, and in my code, I'm trying to create a series of new ImageViews and add them as children of this FrameView. The ImageViews are small, only about 15 pixels square, and I want them to show up in various positions around the FrameView (I'm trying to implement what looks like a radar screen). I'm able to create them and add them just fine, and they show up on the screen.
However, when I try to set their margins, it doesn't seem to have any effect. No matter what I set, all the ImageViews show up in the top left corner of the FrameView, as opposed to offset by the appropriate margins. My XML layout is listed below, along with the code that generates the child views. Am I doing something wrong? How can I get the margins to show up properly? Or is there a better way to do this than by using margins.

CursorAdapter is great, i'm a big fan. I notice that both newView() and bindView() are passed Cursors, indicating that extracting stuff from the Cursor and sticking it in the view should happen inside those overrides.
however in the source for CursorAdapter.getView() i see that bindView() gets called whether the view is recycled or not. in the new view case, this causes a redundant Cursor to View copy.
IMHO, CursorAdapter should call newView() if the view couldn't be recycled, or bindView() if it could.

I have numerous activites in my Android app., and most should contain the same, relatively complex set of UI widgets on the screen's top area (lets say that its a kind of toolbar that you can find on most screens).
Right now, every screen's layout contains the markup for this toolbar, along with its logic inside every Activity's source, so it's damn redundant. Could you recommend a more efficient / less redunant way to do this?

i have list views with image views and text views etc in them, and i'm trying to fix up a situation where the background image of a list element changes in the "pressed" state. if there's a straightforward way of doing that, please let me know! right now, i override onTouchEvent() in the topmost view, and also in those child views who don't just delegate to their parents which would be image views. i have to check for long clicks myself, but basically this scheme works. the list views are potentially different sizes depending on how much text is in the views etc, so i thought i would use a 9-patch as the background. however, when the background changes from flat white to the 9-patch, this seems to indent the view a bit - ie give it margins. eh? if i change the image to a non-9-patch, the margins remain as they are. i've tried different sizes of 9-patch, from 320x150 or so down to 100x30 etc, no change. what's going on?

I'm a newbie to this forum, and hope someone can help. Have had the Captivate for almost a month now and am plagued by an annoying problem. I have set up email accounts connecting to a google-hosted email account via IMAP. I am finding that when replying to a received email, my reply goes out with redundant repetitions of the email address on the "to" line. Example: Email from soandso@gmail.com arrives. I click "reply" on the phone and the reply goes out to soandso@gmail.com; soandso@gmail.com; soandso@gmail.com; soandso@gmail.com etc etc *10 times*, instead of just once. It also copies me about 10 times! Is anybody else seeing this? I use this for work emails, so it looks very unprofessional like I am trying to spam my clients! I have another couple of days before my 30-day return period is up, so hopefully someone else know how to fix this. Is there some setting I am overlooking?

I've got a ScrollView containing a vertical LinearLayout.
The LinearLayout contains several items, including a ListView.
The problem is that I can't seem to get the ListView to be fully expanded. It is being compressed to fit everything on the screen, and forcing me to scroll through just the list. I would prefer to be able to scroll the entire layout, including the ListView.
I've played with the layout parameters a lot, but can't seem to get anything to work.
Also, I'm going to put this in another thread, but thought I'd ask here as well. Is there any way to force a separator at the top of a ListView?

I am trying to display a screen filled with data fetched from a server. The data, if it were HTML, would look something like the following (try to visualize =) ):
CODE:..............
So I naively tried to put a ListView in a ScrollView. Not only did it not work, but I've since read all about why it is bad by the likes of such luminaries as Hackborn and Guy (it nullifies the optimizations, etc).
Problem is, the half dozen places that said NOT to do it didn't recommend what I SHOULD do instead, excepting one post by Romain Guy specifying footer or header use (not suitable in my example, right?). In other words, it seems like people want to mix a list of items in among other text data, getting the benefits of a ListAdapter, but this isn't addressed anywhere that I can find.
So, what is The Right Way to implement my example above? I'm a step away from trying to add TextViews inside a for loop, which just doesn't sit right in my gut.

I show articles in WebView and would like to add some additional information, e.g. publishing date, author etc., into the same ScrollView above the original content. So that it usually doesn't take up space, but the user can just scroll back when the information is needed.
Did any of you do something like that in a sane way?
I thought I can put my stuff into the same ScrollView that WebView uses, but when looking at it with hierarchyviewer I can't see any children, it's probably native.

I'm making sort of a book app. I have the text displayed as a textview in a scrollview:
CODE:.....
I then have
CODE:...............
And implemented the required following to catch a left fling or right fling. And
CODE:.......
This works fine if the text inside the textview is small (ie. there is no scroll bar as it all fits within the view). But as soon as the text requires scrolling, the gesture is no longer picked up by the detector. onFling is never called.
I have read that it is because scrollview handles its own gestueres? If so what is the easiest way to maintain the ability to scroll up and down the text, and also be able to detect flinging left or right and invoking nextChapter() and previousChapter() respectively?

I have two ScrollView inside of each of two HorizontalScrollView of a TableRow. When I touch drag one of ScrollView, another ScrollView must scroll as much. For instance, if I have a list of name on left ScrollView and corresponding phone numbers in right ScrollView, scrolling one ScrollView should not destroy the original bounding between the names and phone numbers. Can it be implemented by onTouchEvent? If so, how should I implement this(on both or one of the ScrollView)?

I have an issue with EditText when it's wrapped in ScrollView.
Please see the following layout setup:
CODE:............
There's nothing special about this layout. I just want the EditText inside ScrollView to be scrollable when I entered more than 5 lines of text.
I tested this layout with both Eclair and Froyo and Eclair seemed working fine, but Froyo didn't really work at all. Was there any change on ScrollView?
ScrollView api says that I can put EditText(or TextView) inside of ScrollView to have this kind of functionality, so I guess that I did make a mistake or missed something important.

I have a little problem with a ScrollView.I have a layout for an activity which is made with a ScrollView. This scrollview contains two ListViews.<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<ListView android:id="@+id/accountsListView"

android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:scrollbars="none" />
<ListView android:id="@+id/cardsListView"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:scrollbars="none" />
</LinearLayout>In onCreate method of my activity I compute ListViews height according there contents.During execution, on activity launch, ScrollView is already scrolled a bit.So I tried, at the end of onCreate to call method scrollTo(0, 0), but it does not change anything.
