Android :: How To Manage Battery Health Of Development Devices When Always Plugged In

May 27, 2010

I know this question is not programming related, so for this I made community wiki. Developers are the best guys to answer the question.

I am addressed to those that do development on devices that runs on batteries, like phones, gadgets etc. Probably you are constantly develop for them, and therefor they are always plugged in and charged at 100%. We develop mainly for smartphones and we have devices that were always above 90% charged in the last month or so.

If a battery is always charged, it degrades it life cycle, so what steps you do to ensure decent battery drain to maximize the life of the batteries.

Android :: Reading Webpage Data

Sep 18, 2010

all in my application I want to read data from web page. if data at web page is upto 800kb then I am able to read it succesfully, but if data is larger then I get OutofMemoryException.I think it is because I am using condition as while ((inputLine = in.readLine()) != null) and in phone there is not much memory to read such a long string. I think I must have to read some part of string then write that part into some file in phone and read another part of string and write into phone but I don't know how to do that? Please help me solve this issue.

Android :: Overall Health Tracking App

Looked around, but haven't found anything that's like this:

Does anyone know of an app that can track one's sleep and mood and overall energy level day to day? I'm looking for something that'll let me rate my fatigue level from 1-10, my overall (i.e. "How do you feel today") from 1-10, the hours of sleep I got, the minutes of exercise, that sort of thing, and then export to CSV so I can keep a record.

Android :: Reading Serial Data From USB Port

I'm working on an undergraduate level senior design project with the HTC Sprint Hero. We want to connect a device that constantly sends a serial string of data. Does anyone have any hints, tricks, or shortcuts to be able to read a serial string from the USB port and save it on the phone? I know there is not a really simple way but I'm no where near an expert in programming and wanted to see if anyone has come across anything that might help.

HTC Incredible :: New SD Card Transfer File / Data Reading Off

Jul 23, 2010

I searched the Incredible forums and sub forums and could not find an answer to this question, though I am sure it has been asked: If I want to go from my stock 2 GB card to a new card, and I want to preserve data AND have all apps still be able to read whatever data they were reading off the card, do I just transfer the files from one card to the other? I bet the only thing I need to make sure of is that new card is formatted with the same file system as the original card, right? I know copying data from one card to the other will preserve data, but I want to make sure I have no problems with apps, either, after inserting the newer card.

Create App That Draws A Map Reading Data From Text File?

Oct 12, 2011

I have to create an app that draws a map reading data from a text file : for example the text file can be like

. index x y orientation
vertex 1 0 0 0
vertex 2 5 0 0.5
vertex 3 10 2 0.3

so i need to do in java something like fscanf does in c (fscanf scans the text file for known formatted data... example, in the file i written i know each line has a string float float float and i need to put them into a specific data structure that can be a list of elements "vertex"

next, when i have all the data, draw a simple image rappresenting the data..

my questions are...

there is a function like fscanf?

and then.. what's better for drawing the 2d map? i have tu use Opengl? At the end i have to draw the image pixel by pixel.. i hope there is something easier then openGL

Android :: Static Data Structures On Embedded Devices

May 2, 2010

I've started working on some Android applications and have a question regarding how people normally deal with situations where you have a static data set and have an application where that data is needed in memory as one of the standard java collections or as an array.

In my current specific issue i have a spreadsheet with some pre-calculated data. It consists of ~100 rows and 3 columns. 1 Column is a string, 1 column is a float, 1 column is an integer. I need access to this data as an array in java.

It seems like i could:

1) Encode in XML - This would be cpu intensive to decode in my experience.

2) build into SQLite database - seems like a lot of overhead for static access to data i only need array style access to in ram.

3) Build into binary blob and read in. (never done this in java, i miss void *)

4) Build a python script to take the CSV version of my data and spit out a java function that adds the values to my desired structure with hard coded values.

5) Store a string array via androids resource mechanism and compute the other 2 columns on application load. In my case the computation would require a lot of calls to Math.log, Math.pow and Math.floor which i'd rather not have to do for load time and battery usage reasons.

I mostly work in low power embedded applications in C and as such #4 is what i'm used to doing in these situations.

It just seems like it should be far easier to gain access to static data structures in java/android.

Perhaps I'm just being too battery usage conscious and in my single case i imagine the answer is that it doesn't matter much, but if every application took that stance it could begin to matter.

General :: App / Data Sync Between Two Devices?

Dec 28, 2013

I'm trying to find a one-way solution to sync 'app' & 'data' between 2 devices, and possibly make a full backup if ever needed.

I cannot get an idea of what each of the apps below do without downloading each one and making a mess. I was hoping some of you could shed some light. Considering these apps use a cloud service of sorts, I am assuming that old versions of files can be retrieved (from trash) by visiting the cloud service on a PC?

1. Titanium Backup Pro
2. DataSync
3. DropSync
4. FolderSync
5. Helium

I'm making an Android Java app game (although this question applies to all languages really) and hope to release the first version soon. I'm nervous about how I save data in my game. My problem is that, if in a later update, I decide to store more data or store the same data in a different way, I need to be careful I don't lose or corrupt data for users that upgrade (i.e. I want users to be able to use data created by an old version in the new version, like their high scores from before). For example, say I want to save high scores in version 1.
