Is there an app (or better, a way within Android) to prevent the same contact from showing the the call log more than once? I talk mainly to the same few people, with a few others scattered between, and it would be nice if I had the option to see each contact only once in the call log. (Maybe have the call times viewable if I open the contact's entry in the call log.)

Just got a lg eve for my wife and she is pisst at it for one reason..
the screen goes of when your in a call?so you need to activate the screen then press end call..is there something to prevent this?

I got a call and while I was talking my cheek hit the "end call" button. I'm thinking this might start being an issue. I have my screen set to time out after 15 sec but that was apparently still enough time for my cheek to end the call lol. Is there a setting somewhere on the phone where I can change it to when I get a call the screen goes blank faster?

With the iphone, there was a sensor that detected when your face was near the phone, so the screen was blank and disabled but the phone was not locked. When you pull your face away, the screen is active again.
On the Evo, it seems it has a similar sensor. However, after a minute it'll actually lock the phone for me while on an active call. So in order to hang up, I have to fumble with the phone to press the top button, then fumble some more to press end. Is there a way to prevent the phone from locking while on an active call, yet allow it to disable the screen when it detects it's being held up to the face?
Any way to change how the phone behaves in regards to the screen waking up after ending a Bluetooth phone call? Windows Mobile handled this correctly. Android does the opposite.
For example, I am on a phone call using BT headset, I press the power button and put the phone to sleep, put the phone in my pocket, end the call and the screen wakes up with the dialer open. Guess what happens next.....pocket dialing!
WM would end the call and the screen wouldn't turn on, and even after waking it up it was locked.
BT headsets, voice dialing, but I can't just leave the phone in my pocket?

Usually the phone is awake, and when you lower it the phone lights up for numeric input (love that feature).
But after a minute or so it locks. You have to push power button before you can enter numbers- annoying. Is there a "keep alive" option I'm not seeing?
On a similar note, is there a way to make the phone lock automatically (like an app)? It's also annoying to have to manually lock it: I'd rather keep waking it up (if it was indeed idle and not running a program) than forget to lock it and dial/message everyone in my contact list from my pocket.
I recently rooted my phone and have been playing around with ROMS and such and clearly needed to back all of my information up. I used the nandroid backup and titanium backup for my apps and then i realized i had no contacts.
So i found mybackup pro and it works great! i actually use this instead of titanium backup now. my only problem is that when it backed up my contacts, i only had like 400+ contacts and now i had 1500
i was able to filter out the extra 1000 by viewing only people with phone numbers, i guess it added all of my fb friends to my contact list. How can i get rid of all of these extra people?
its not just the fb contacts that were added, but there seems to many duplicates which are just linked together. when i go to edit a contact, it asks me which contact to edit, and it lists like 3 or 4 of the same contact name and they all say google underneath.

Now it turns out in every audioplayer i have downloaded I have duplicates of every track (one for each time I synced) Also, the "official" audio player won't play ANY tracks at all. Nothing will play. Just keep getting the annoying message: "sorry, the player does not support this type of audio file."
Which is impossible, as I used doubleTwist to sync in the first place. And I thought that everything got converted so it would work. Now it seems everything - including what did work beforehand - won't work now. I have just noticed today that all my facebook contacts birthday events are showing twice in the agenda widget? I had to delete the data in /settings/applications/contacts storage yesterday to cure a separate google contacts sync problem that I had, maybe this caused the agenda widget problem? My contacts all synced ok from gmail again and I have since linked a few to facebook contacts in the people app. However most of the
duplicates are for contacts that are not linked in people, so I dont think thats it.
I'm the only one who has run into this problem, but I doubt it. I am overwhelmed by the contact organization system on my inc. I don't understand it at all, actually. I have the following accounts linked to my phone:
1) Exchange Account (using Touchdown App)
2) Gmail account (using gmail app)
Somehow, all my Exchange contacts have now landed in my Google contacts. How did this happen?! And how do I fix this? Moreover, I have over 4,500 contacts in my Exchange account, and I simply don't understand how the phone displays these. Since I'm using touchdown, which has its own contacts tab, will these same contacts show up when I hit the "people" widget? I can't tell if this widget is getting populated by my gmail acct (which now has my 4500 contacts in it) or if it's coming from Touchdown.
Another annoyance is that I don't want to look through 4500 contacts to find the 10 or so people I regularly call or email. Is there a way to make it so only a select few show in the "people" tab, rather than all 4500? I just had to hard reset my phone and I had a group of 15 people that was saved in my google account for text messaging purposes. When I restored the phone, only 10 people were left in the group, the other names weren't even in my "people" widget anymore. How did it decide which 10 people to save? And why did I lose those 5 people from my "people" widget? What is the difference between putting a tab as a "phone" contact, Exchange contact, or google contact? It seems that they are all linked somehow. I don't understand how to back it up properly.
Last night (the 6th night I've had the phone) I opened People and noticed that many random contacts have been duplicated a few times. There didn't appear to be any correlation with who I had contacted through gmail or facebook, it just looked like a glitch. For now I'm just deleting them as I come across them, but hope this doesn't continue forever.
View 2 Replies View Relatedmy new employer gave me an evo 4g. i synced it with my google account. had a very organized list of contacts, with groups... it created dups even 3 or 4 copies of each contact... i immediately went to Phone settings > applications > manage applications and removed data... it appears my "People" contacts list and groups are no longer duped...
However... on the home screen, when i click on "phone" above the dialpad, there is a list of my contacts... it's duplicated, but i think it's somehow cached... how do i clear this in application data so it reads from my actual synced people list (which is still no longer duped; only unique entries)?

I'm not sure why some are dashed and some aren't.. referred back to my google contacts.. they all have dashes... is evo creating the duplicate with non-dash? ugh... so confusing.
Is there a way to sync my outlook and exchange data as the same appointments and info on my phone? For example: When I was on winmo, my Exchange appointment and outlook appointment would update each other not create a duplicate. Now that I've synced my PC, I have the same appointment twice on my phone. Green for Exchange and Orange for Outlook. Is there anyway to keep the data the same? In other words, if I have a 5pm meeting on exchange, and I sync with outlook, I want both sources to update the same appointment. Not create another 5pm meeting.

I'm on 4.2. My app list (the thing I get when I click the button with 6 dots) has loads of duplicate apps in it. If I try press and hold any of the apps, I get either "Move to Desktop", which I obviously don't want, or "Uninstall", which if I select, uninstalls the whole app (not just that duplicate). There any way to remove the duplicates?
Searching around the web I found that this happens when you move an app from internal storage to the SD card. Two suggestions to fix this were to move the app to internal storage and then move it back to the SD card, or to reboot. I tried both (one after another), but still no luck (in fact, I may have more duplicates now).
I've made taken the plunge and am uploading all my music to the Google Music cloud. Thing is, I've accumulated a large number of duplicates over the years from moving stuff around and now they are all showing up in GM. Is there an easy way to remove the dups? Or do I need to go through and manually delete each one?

Now my galerie and winamp shows this copys but cant play them and just stop.
Ive only had my Hero for a week, however I've noticed that when I update an app, the icon is duplicated when I go to "All Programs." Its cluttering my Programs page because there's double of like 25% of my apps. The only way I've been able to fix this is to uninstall and then install it again. Is there any way to fix this??
View 1 Replies View Relatedif anyone else who was unfortunate enough to install the latest vf 'update' noticed that all of their sms messages had been duplicated! which as you can image is a pain in the parts if like me you have alot of messages. I have managed to sort out a work around for this. I used 'sms backup and restore' SMS Backup & Restore - Android app on AppBrain to create an xml of all my sms messages I then wrote a quick vb.net program which checks the xml file for any messages with duplicate timestamps and message contents and removes the duplicate. Then you can just restore the edited xml file. I realise some people might be dubious about using an exe file which someone posts on a forum but i have attached it anyway if anyone wants to use it. I could post the code if anyone wants. Anyway just thought that it might help some of those unfortunate souls like myself who foolishly 'updated' their desire

Having a problem with MML. It works great with syncing all my music from my Itunes. But, I can't figure out why it syncs on its own and duplicates my playlists. In addition, the playlists are blank/empty no music on them. I use the Droid X stock player and have to manually delete all the empty playlists. This is getting to me. What can I do?

I have no problem with giving out a different number, and my placed calls seeing the GV number in caller ID.
