I'm trying to bind a pre-populated database (.db file) to my application, so that I could use the data right away. I cannot, however, figure out a way to: 1) Store the .db file inside the application. 2) Access the database inside the application.

I have a pre-populated database, I hadd .csv and make a database in sqllite manager and imported all values into this database.
Now I put this database into android's assets folder and want to use this via ORMLite in my android application.
I got some problem with my database in my Android application. Perhaps, my application is working but let me explain you.

So when i try to run my app i get Force close, but when i put manually: dh.insert("test", "ooo");
In the onCreate method in my main activity everything is fine and working. So, the conclusion is that i must put some value for the first time i run the app so it can work properly. I thought maybe to update that row with the new informations that i insert later through some TextView's from the app.
This file appears to be in a binary XML format. What is this format and how can it be parsed programmatically (as opposed to using the aapt dump tool in the SDK)?

I want to access this information from outside the Android environment, preferably from Java.
Is it possible to play a notification sound from a sound file inside the application package ?
Where should this file be stored in the apk (/res/raw or /assets) and what should be the URI to pass to the notification ?

I have some data files that I need to install together with my application on the emulator for easy testing my app on a device.
Where can I put files in a way that Eclipse will include them into my apk and how can I access those files after my application is installed on the device?
I am working on an Android application that will need several entries (a single table, with 1000-10000 rows) populated in that app's database before the user can use that app. I've looked around some tutorials and I am unsure of the best way to do this. Should I just check if the database exists each time the app is started and, if it isn't there, create it and insert the thousands of records I need? Or is there a better way to handle this problem? Ideally, it could be included as part of the app's install process, but I'm not sure if this is possible.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've created an Android application which has a certain package name that I've been using personally for months now. I'm about to release it on the market, and I have to change the package name. This cannot be avoided.
My issue is that the application has an SQLite database attached to it that I want to keep, but I know if I change the package name, it'll install as a separate application and I'll have to restart my database, which would take a very long time.
Is there a good way to change a package name while maintaining the SQLite database? Or at least moving the database easily? This will just be for my own phone since it hasn't been released to the public yet.
I would like to use this package to back-up my app's database filles. I was looking at the source for the User Dictionary Provider when I noticed that it was using it. Why is it not exposed in the public API and what are the plans in the short term with it?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been a couple of days trying to solve this thing but I can'f figure it out.The problem is, simple activity, with simple layout, ScrollView -> LinearLayout -> and a lot of buttons inside the layout (within the scroll content). Everything works just fine but one tricky thing. When I click a button let's say at the top of the scroll content and inmediatelly I scroll down to the bottom of the content and I click other button there, nothing happens until I click a second time and all come to normal again.This can be reproduced anytime and it's code independent (i've tried more than 20 scenarios). I've not much experience in android yet but looks like the scroll listener stops the onclick listener or something like that.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a child Activity that contains a ListView. This Activity is populated asynchronously from a SQLite cursor. The list items contain a TextView, a RadioButton, and a normal Button. The XML is shown below:

I have to do some logic to determine which RadioButton is selected by default, and I can't do it until the ListView is already loaded. The problem is that with all the events I have tried so far (onCreate, onPostCreate, onResume, onWindowFocusChanged), the ListView child count is zero. I've also tried using the getView method in the ArrayAdapter class, but that method is called mutliple times and the ListView child count is potentially different every time, leading to unexpected results. Apparently, these events are firing before the ListView has finished being completely populating with its child items.
Is there an event I can listen for, or some other way to determine when the ListView is finished populating and has all of its children accessible to be modified programmatically?
i work on custom Application Manager and try to get the disk usage of installed package. So PackageManager.getpackageSizeInfo was removed from SDK on 0.9->1.0 update android.content.pm. PackageStats(String pkgName)(cacheSize, codeSize, dataSize) returns always "0" Size of phys. file (java.io.File) in "/data/app" seems wrong/not completely. Has anybody any solution to get the total disc space used by an installed package?

My goal is to have something pretty much exactly like the installed application details page in the Android Market.I need a list of items displayed along with other content above the list, and would like the content above to scroll up along with the list (exactly like the application details does for the "My Review" and other descriptive info).Due to responses to my previous posts, I came to believe that it really wasn't possible to do this with a ListView.So rather than using a ListView, I refactored my code to use a simple LinearLayout and add individual View items to the list, thinking I could just set each View as clickable and add an OnClickListener to each View in the LinearLayout.That's not working at all though, and now I'm getting even more frustrated.If someone can help me get the OnClickListener working, then I think it'll work, but I do need a separator for the LinearLayout.How do I add a separator like the one used for ListView to my LinearLayout?

My questions are: where do i put the clicklisteners for the buttons knowing that the action for the button is different from the action of the list item itself? Do i keep the onListItemClick ?

I need to store the path traced by the finger for use later on.
The problem is that after the finger is lifted off the screen the ArrayList (pArray) is completely populated with the X & Y position of the ACTION_UP coordinates.
From the Log i can see that it is adding the current X & Y position to the Arraylist while the finger is moving which is great but then the Arraylist gets overwritten by the data in Arraylist.size() - 1...

I have a ListView which is embedded in a ScrollView. I populate the rest of the Views in the ScrollView, then populate the ListView. Unfortunately yhe ScrollView doesn't size itself to accomodate the items in the ListView. Am I missing something? Is there a way to get the View to resize itself to accomodate the contents of the ListView?

I have a ListActivity which is being filled via an internal class "OrderAdapter" - while the list is being populated I set various OnClickListeners on the TextView elements which should open the same view with different parameter values per line. My problem I have is that no matter which entry in the list I click I will always get to a view with the same parameter ID (it's always the ID of the last line in the list) - even though the output of the ID varies if I output it to the TextView.

I'm populating a list from the DB and I have a image field in the DB which contains a URL to a image file.

However, the other fields are populated, but the image remains empty.
I'm attempting to override an Android View class to tweak the functionality just slightly. But I need to modify a field that does not have a setter method. I've placed the subclass in a package called android.widget. Why can't I access any of the package-private member fields? I notice that the compiler says they "cannot be resolved," rather than not being accessible. Does this have something to do with how Android.jar is built?

The "available packages" only offer me SDK Platform Android 1.1 API 2; I was also hoping to download 1.0 API 1 as I am developing an application that only needs very basic functionality and I would like to be compatible with as many devices as possible.
