Android :: Organise App Menu Into Categories
Apr 25, 2010
Is there any way out there to organise your apps menu other than by alphabetical order? When you have a heaps of different apps and are always trying new ones like me it's not always easy to find that one that has a name that relates nothing to its function.Ideally I'd like some way of making categories in my app menu and and grouping all my utility icons, all my game icons etc.

I have all my contacts on my SIM and I really want to edit and better organise them. At the moment, I have seperate entries for each persons home, mobile, work, etc. Can I combine all numbers for a person under one name? Also, I really don't like them being on the SIM as its quite limiting in terms of name length, etc.
What is the best/optimal method for doing this? I have Outlook, so should I sync with Outlook and then edit them in outlook?

How do I create categories in an arbitrary ListView like those in Preferences (PreferenceCategory)?
I've found android.R.layout.preference_category that renders that grey TextView but don't see it mentioned anywhere from java code.

I just got a Droid Incredible. I am trying to set it up some some things I need right away. I need a task (todo) manager. I have a rental business and I need to be able to categorize tasks - i.e. rental repairs, rental tenants, rental finance, etc. I like things categorized so that I can display all the tasks in a certain category. Most todo list managers I have looked at, show every task in the same list. So if you've got 200 tasks, you have to scroll through all of them to find the ones related to a certain topic. this is a pain. I would like to have one of the home screens devoted to the task mananger for quick access.

I've noticed lately that contacts that I view or edit on my Droid Bionic start appearing as uncategorized in my Outlook 2010 account. It is becoming annoying having to re-categorize every contact that I view or edit on my phone.
It seems that interacting with these contacts removes their categories from the Outlook side of things. Any information on why this might be and how to stop it from happening?
My Outlook 365 account is synced to my phone via Corporate Sync. I just checked my Contact settings and it is storing new contacts in my corporate sync account, if this matters.

It seems like the directions for clearing the calendar cache and other tips don't work for the epic. I have five calendars on my Google Calendar : Personal, School, Finance, Work and Tasks. I am only getting Personal and Finance on my Epic for some reason. I am not sure why this occurred but I have not figured out a solution and its getting very frustrating since I bought an Android phone almost specifically for the easy google calendar integration. Any ideas for correcting this solely for the Epic?

Ive just received this 2 days ago and my setting app was working last night now I can access it but when I touch any of the sub categories (e.g. sound and display) nothing happens. I wondered if this was from low battery but I am charging the battery and it still wont work.

Unfortunately, my items are shown in the menu of the first web page I load , but then if I load a second page, a long press only shows the standard context menu items. Mine are gone. I've put a Toast inside the code and it is displayed as well on the first loaded page, but not on the second. I'm using the code below:..............

I have an Options menu up and running in my Android application and I've overridden the onCreateOptionsMenu, onOptionsItemSelected and onPrepareOptionsMenu methods to customize the menu a little. My question is related to keeping the Options menu open after the user clicks on a menu item. Basically, I'd like to be able to hide the menu until the user clicks on the device menu key. Once the user clicks on this key, I'd like to be able to hold the menu in place regardless of how many times the user clicks on menu items. If the user wants to hide the Options menu, they'd just need to click on the device menu key again. Is this type of interaction supported (or even advisable).

How can I launch a contextmenu from a contextmenu? I'm trying to replicate the MediaPlayer action that happens when you long click a song, then click "Add to playlist" in the resulting contextmenu. When you click that menu item, another contextmenu pops up with "Add to playlist" as the title, and "Current playlist", "New", and however-many-playlists-you-have defined after that.

I've got an app using MapActivity.onCreate() to initialize the map and show it on screen. Now I would like to add a menu to my app. From what I've found out I can't add a menu from MapActivity and need to use Activity (correct me if I'm wrong).
Now I have no idea how to "initialize" the map from my Activity-class.
And how would I have to fix the views, will I wrap my activity-layout around my Map-layout?
