Android :: Getting My App In Featured Section

Jun 12, 2009

I have an app which I think could be in the featured section of the Android Market and was wondering the best way to proceed. The application is Scan2PDF Mobile which uses your phone's camera to "scan" documents and make PDF files which can be saved or emailed from the phone. The pages are enhanced and compressed and then made into a multi-page PDF. Think of it as having a scanner, photocopier and fax machine in your pocket/Sicen Scan2PDF Mobile has been on the Adroid market it is proving very popular, getting an average rating of 4.7. It is unlike any other app on the market and in our opinion would be a good candidate for the featured list - so how do we go about it?

Android :: What Is Best Full-featured Weather App?

I live in the Kansas City suburbs where we get lots of forms of severe weather.Tornados, blizzards, hail, winds, floods, you name it.Mother Nature REALLY hates us.I just switched to Android & I'm wondering what you all use for your weather apps.So far I've tried WeatherBug & I'm currently using the Weather Channel app. I'm wondering if there's anything better.I may go back & upgrade to WeatherBug elite.I had that on my Blackberry & liked that alright, even though I eventually switched to Berry Weather.Basically, I need something w/ up-to-the-minute severe weather alerts, detailed radar, extended forecasts, & the ability to add multiple locations. The inclusion of NOAA weather radio would also rock.

HTC Droid Eris :: Android Market Featured List

Mar 28, 2010

I hate to compare it to apple, but let's face it, that's all it will ever be compared to.I have an itouch that I used religiously before I got my Eris a while back and as most of you probably know, the apple app store can keep you busy for hours. Every day there are new apps, but most importantly there are always a new list of their featured apps.My question is why for the last few months have we been starring at the same featured apps from android? These include Reality browser, personal assistant, hoccer, google goggles, wordpress, cnet scan and shop, ustream, usaa mobile, zagat, car locator, movies, handcent sms.I could be totally wrong, but it just feels like I've seen these apps all to many times. Is it my phone? Also I wish there was a way to view top-downloaded apps for the day or week.I feel like any new android apps don't have the ability to reach popularity because there is not system for most popular downloads. When you sort through, they're all the same...facebook, myspace, backgrounds, yellow pages etc. etc. etc.

Android :: Full Featured Calendar / Reminder / Organizer / Whatever App

Jan 17, 2010

I've recently got my hands on HTC Hero which happens to be my first smart phone ever (I was using the ancient Siemens M65 for a long time before that). And I'm currently trying to find a way to at least replicate (I'm not hoping for improving anymore) the organizer functionality I had on my Siemens M65.I've tried Googling, I've downloaded lots of various suggested apps, but I'm still coming up short. So I'll try listing things that I'd *really* like to have in an organizer app and perhaps someone could point me in the right direction.Of note is that I use organizer simply as a reminder engine. I don't plan my days on it, so I could care less for 'event duration', 'finding free time', and such functionality. I just want to have good reminder functionality.Features I'm looking for:

* Selectable snooze period when reminder goes off -- e.g. on my old Siemens I could choose between 5/15/60 minutes and 1 day. This seems to be sorely lacking in most (all?) applications I've checked.

* Easily selectable reminder date & time. Lots of applications seem to use that date/time picker that only has + and - buttons for choosing month/date/hour/minute -- this seems to border on unusable for me. Although if application is otherwise perfect, I can overlook that

* Notification (via widget or notification area or some such) when I have upcoming reminders today (or maybe today and tomorrow similar to HTC's small calendar widget). Smooth Calendar seems to be a good choice for standard Calendar app, but Calendar app itself is not ideal

* List of all reminders I have scheduled. This is something that seems to be absent from default Calendar app.

* Notification about reminders I've missed. Very desirable something that can be seen without waking up a phone (I think it is not impossible for application to blink one of the LEDs in case there's missed reminder). Definitely something that can be seem on home screen. I didn't test default Calendar app extensively in this respect, but it seems to do not display anything at all if you have missed reminder (although it seems to repeat the alarm after 5 minutes or so).

* Repeatable reminders would be nice to have, but it is probably least important item for me.

Android :: Contacts Blast New Full Featured Contact Manager / Dialer

Mar 18, 2009

I've been a member of Android Forums for awhile now although I haven't posted much recently. This is Matt from Droidmatic a small startup of a few guys that want to make great Android apps. We recently released our first app, Contacts Blast, which can act as a full feature replacement for the built in contacts manager / dialer. We even integrate with the "dial" button from the home screen and can easily be turned into the default app.I wanted to share our feature list with everyone as well as some screenshots. Nearly every change since the 1.0 release (we are at version 1.4 right now) has been inspired by the feedback we are receiving from our users.

HTC Incredible :: Are There Any Fully Stable Fully Featured ROMs Out There?

Sep 30, 2010

I rooted my phone back before 2.2 came out. I've played with CWM, made Nandroid and Titanium backups, removed bloat and installed most of the root only apps. What I haven't done yet is flash a ROM. This is mainly because it seems that while there are a crap ton of ROMs being developed out there all of them seem to either not be fully stable or are missing some sort of key feature (camera, videocam, bluetooth, LED, internal storage, etc).
Are there any ROMs that you folks are currently using that's stable and has all the features of the phone working? If not, what's the closest one that you've found?

Android :: Handwritten Note Taking App

Jul 2, 2010

I'm considering getting a new mobile device, and this will definitely influence my decision about whether to go Android or Windows 7 (mobile).

I really like onenote because I can handwrite my notes- and so i remember them better than when I type them. I can also select my text with the lasso (or even individual strokes with a click!) and move it around, in case I don't leave enough room or something.

Anyway, I'm looking for an app for android that lets me take advantage of a stylus and take notes in multiple colors, and be able to select and move/resize my text. I'd LIKE (but could do without) to be able to sync to my desktop and add pictures or text or whatever- basically what i can do with onenote. However, I haven't found a comprehensive application for android, and I may go with the windows device, just so that I can use onenote (but the performance scares me a bit- android is really snappy!). I wouldn't mind paying for the app. <$100-150

I already checked out the web apps version of onenote, but it doesn't do handwriting.

Anyone know if an app like this exists, or is in development?

Android :: AK Notepad For On The Go Note Taking

Android :: Picture Taking Application Not Working

Apr 10, 2009

why a picture taking application works on some phones and not on others? The app was tested with the 1.1 emulator and the 1.0 developer phone. Some customers reported that they could not find the resulting pictures using the Picture application after they powered off the phone and powered it back on to cause a new media scan. Others find them just fine (in the dcim/camera directory). Are there any known conflicts for applications taking pictures? The only other thing I can think of is that the developer phone, currently at 1.0, will function differently at 1.1, however, the app works on the 1.1 version of the emulator.

Android :: Note Taking App - Sync With Gmail

Dec 27, 2009

There are many note taking apps but I am looking for one that e-mails me the note to my own gmail account as soon as the note is created.

Some note taking apps have this feature. For example, AK Notepad has a "share" button that allows you to open up gmail and e-mail the contents of the note to anyone. This is pretty much what I want but the problem with AK Notepad is that to send myself the note I need to do the following:

1. Create the note
2. Select menu
3. Select "Share"
4. Scroll to "gmail"
5. Gmail pops open - enter in contact information (in my case it would be username+notes@gmail.com)
6. Send e-mail.

I want an app that essentially skips steps 2-6. I want it so that AS SOON as a note is written it is automatically sent to my gmail as an email.

Android :: Wholistic Note-taking Ecosystem

Oct 13, 2010

This is not meant to be specifically about particular apps for Android, but the state of note-taking & Android in general (though I suppose I do hope to get some guidance in finding just the right app), so if a Mod feels this should be in the Apps forum instead, I understand.

There are lots of note-taking apps in the Market, and I imagine we are all familiar with the most popular (NoteEverything, Ak Notepad, Springpad, Evernote, 3banana/Catch) and a search for "note" on AppBrain finds almost 3000 results.

I myself have been looking for the "holy grail" of note taking & syncing between Android and my PC, and unless I've missed something we seem to not yet have one best note "ecosystem" for Android.

To be clear, this is what I personally consider the perfect note ecosystem. Others may disagree.

1. Create and Edit text notes on the Android device. (capturing photo notes, QR codes, and voice notes are not necessary, but certainly awesome-sauce on top).

2. Arrange notes in separate "notebooks" (or folders) within the app.

3. Easily sync the notes to my PC so that they remain in their separate notebooks (folders), and so that I can edit them easily on my PC either in a different program, or a program specific to the Android app. This syncing does not need to have a step in the "cloud" (I prefer keeping things on my PC anyway) but it wouldn't hurt.

So far on my phone I've been using NoteEverything and Catch (formerly 3Banana).

NoteEverything (NE) lets me organize my notes in folders and sub-folders (notebooks) but does not sync to the cloud or a PC. NE does let you import and export, but when you export it does not export the notes in their folders, but rather one entire batch of .txt files. Then you have to copy those files to your PC (I have been using my USB cable, and MS SyncToy). I have considered using the DropBox app to keep NE notes synced to my PC, but it still requires me to export and import manually. Not the same as syncing. (For the record, I am using the FREE version of NE).

Catch/3Banana lets me sync my notes, but only to the web/cloud. There is no desktop client from Catch to sync to my PC. I want to be able to access those notes when offline (with my laptop). Also, Catch does not use folders/notebooks, but # hash tags instead (which i don't care for. Not the way my brain organizes).

The official Evernote app in the Market does NOT allow offline access to notes, and there is a whole snafu where notes created using Rich text (or other formatting) elsewhere and then synced to EN can only be appended not edited. EN does have notebooks however, and i can sync it to my desktop EN client. EN does have a new Beta that was just released through their web site that allows offline notes, but I haven't tried it yet, and it has its own problems so far (as it's still in Beta).

Springpad is more like Catch, you can sync it online, but has no desktop PC client for offline use.

GDocs is an app that will let you open and edit your Google Docs files, but when I used it it seemed kind of buggy and hard to use well.

Docs 2 Go is great if you want to pay for it (i have) but again the problem is syncing with the desktop. I suppose this could be done with DropBox. Not sure how well this satisfies my requirement of notebooks/folders, nor how "slick" an implementation this would be.

Those are the only note apps I've tried so far, so it's entirely likely I've missed one that will do what I want, but the trick seems to be getting it on to the PC.

Evernote would be the best option so far if it had offline notes on the phone. Perhaps when the new version is out of Beta that will be the best bet, however when it comes to a desktop client, while I do use EN at work (and a portable version on my USB stick) on my PC I use (and swear by, not at) MS OneNote.

MS OneNote is amazing. I wish the Evernote desktop client had the options and tools of OneNote, but it doesn't. OneNote, can sync (or import/export) with the new online version of OneNote, but there is currently no Android app for OneNote.

So there's the whole thing, and now I'd like to know what others think of the Android/PC Note-taking ecosystem. Is a unified system with all the bells and whistles possible? Does it already exist and I've missed it?

What are your methods for keeping notes synced not just with the cloud, but to your PC?
