Is it possible to define a shortcut key to launch the app I'm developing for android? Can a service running in the background get hardware button events like the camera or send button for example.

I've been programming Android in Eclipse for about a year now and I have always launched my app by right clicking on my project name in the project explorer, followed by "run as", then "Android Application". There has to be a better way...
Is there a way to change this (three mouse clicks): "Right click on project" -> "run as" -> "Android Application"
To this (one hotkey press): <My favorite hotkey>
So I can just press one button to launch my app?

Does anyone know of a shortcut or a way to make a shortcut to launch the video camera app? I hate having to open the camera and try to operate the slider to change the mode to video. The Youtube app works but takes up too much space on the screen. I have BetterCut but have no idea how to make a shortcut to this function

I recently installed LauncherPro on my Droid and am trying to make use of the additional home screen space. One thing I would like to do is create a on-click shortcut to search for nearby hardware stores (I'm a contractor and sometimes need to pickup task-specific materials). I could swear there used to be a shortcut available called "Direct Search" or something like that, that would do just what I'm looking for, but I don't see it when I try to add a shortcut to the home screen. Did this used to exist, or was it just my imagination? Is there anything like it now? I know I could make a bookmark in the browser and place a shortcut to the bookmark on the home screen, but I was hoping for the results to come up in Google Maps.

i'm torn between two worlds the world without HTC sense where you can have a shortcut dock on the homescreen as provided by LauncherPro, and the world with HTC sense where more homescreen widgets work. So, the question is - can you get a dock like the one offered by LauncherPro and keep Sense, or, can you get more widgets to work with LauncherPro. Widgets like the agenda calendar where your facebook contacts and any other events show up in a list?

Is there any way to put a shortcut on your homescreen that would open Google Nav with directions to that point?
IE putting an icon on the home screen that says "Home", tap on it, and Google Nav opens up with directions to your home that you've previously programed.
Using Fascinate if it matters

While playing with my phone the other day I realised a way of adding application shortcuts a faster way to the home screen then holding a blank space, choosing shortcuts, applications then selecting. Open your apps list and just tap and hold an app, it then pops to the homescreen so you can add the shortcut. Found this much quicker than waiting for the apps list to load everytime.

When you click the app drawer it pulls up all the apps installed in abc order. What I want is a shortcut on my desk top to do the same thing. Just an icon on the desktop that once click will open all my apps. Its needs to be a shortcut and not a widget as I'd like to be able to change the icon when i want.(As far as I know you can not change the icon on a widget)

As some of you may already know, the mobile youtube site has been revamped to use a HTML5 browser for faster viewing. And its pretty damn good. Smacks the native youtube app in everyway, only problem is you cant seem to upload videos from it.
However, the iphone is able to add a shortcut to the mobile site to homescreen as demonstrated in this help tip. http://help.youtube.com/support/youtube/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=188124
But to my surprise, android doesnt have this option. Am I missing something here? : Im a little shocked that since youtube is owned by google they would have paid more attention to their own platform rather than their most fierce competitor. Or did they just do it out of pittance because the native iphone youtube app does not play HQ videos and they are not able to view the embedded youtube videos on the full site, due to the absence of Flash?

This is going to seem like a strange question, which may end in me seeming very delusional, but I will try to explain as best as I can.
I just got my new Samsung Moment and have been playing around with it. And I let my 7 year old nephew play with it. He was on the home screen pressing something on the screen or the buttons, when a giant (i think it was a) battery thing that had like 4 different options inside of it, Wifi [on off] Gps [on off] 3g or something [on off] and bluetooth [on off]. It was a really quick way to turn those wireless options on and off. And he doesnt remember how he got their and I didnt see. Hopefully we werent just seeing things.

If there is app out there that lets you store text and have keyboard shortcuts setup to paste whatever is stored that is associated with that shortcut. I use a small program in Windows all the time for entering email address and password and such and hoping Android has something exactly like this.

I know I've had some apps specifically tell me that if I have a shortcut to them on a home screen, I need to delete the old one and replace it after an update. Does that apply to all apps, or only those that specifically say the shortcut needs updating? A related question is why would ANY app require changing a shortcut? Unless an update moves the location of an app, what else could change? Necessary

I need to create desktop shortcut for content managed by my app. I've found the way to do it using ACTION_CREATE_SHORTCUT But I need the way to implement it without using "Create shortcut" menu. It would be great if user could select "create shourtcut" from item's context menu inside my activity and it will be automatically placed on desktop.

I tried Button Shortcut to remap the search soft key for use with VLingo, and no dice. I got the option to set VLingo as my default on that long press once, and I did, but it just goes to the standard Google Voice search still. No option offered anymore at all. Tried clearing Voice Search "defaults" under application settings and still nothing.

I'm looking for an app that I can create a shortcut on the home screen and it will automatically email a specific email address. I know there are things that are close to this (add contact to home screen) but then you have to click again to send an email, etc. I'm looking for the equivalent of a fast "note to self" application for quick capture of ideas.

I have a droid X running 2.1 update 1: I want a direct link to my universal inbox from my homescreen that drills directly into the inbox displaying all my messages. Currently, the best I can do is to use the "messaging" shortcut, which then goes and displays another shortcut to my "universal inbox" along with my individual mailboxes. I want to cut out the two-step approach, and get a direct shortcut.

I'm tired of carrying (and misplacing) my stupid drivers license just so I can show it to cashiers at Denny's or wherever they don't accept debit. But it takes too long to open up gallery and sort through all of my photos. If I could set it up as an icon on my home screen, or even the folder it is in as an icon so i could quickly pull it up, that would be perfect.

I've got my work account set up in google, but I don't want it on my phone - so I only check email through the browser. However I like to have the stock browser still be my profile. So what I've done is set up Dolphin to have my work's profile. What I'd like to do is set up a short cut to a bookmark in Dolphin to open in dolphin. Anytime I've set up a shortcut to the URL on the screen it opens up in the stock browser - any way to make a specific shortcut to open a URL in an application of my choosing? I don't know enough of Linux/Android to try and edit some changes. My phone is a Magic (MyTouch3g for you americans) and is running 1.5 with SenseUI and is non-rooted.

There are two apps I used to have installed that I cannot find for the life of me. is a widget/sliding tray/multi app launcher - I believe it was 4x1 but could hold more than 4 apps. The other was a bottom dock that also slid but was not part of a complete home replacement app, just a stand alone dock to launch multiple apps.
