Android :: Consistent System Bug While Using UI Test Monkey App

Dec 22, 2009

I'm using the UI test monkey tool provided with android. This is a consistent error I see and wonder how I can avoid it.

Somehow the test app will rotate the orientation of my app such that the emulator window is still in portrait orientation, but the screen surface is in a landscape orientation. When in this configuration, any time you click on an EditText, a system exception gets thrown:

"The application OpenWnn (process jp.co.omronsoft.openwnn) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again."

So this OpenWnn process is not mine, it looks like it handles display of the virtual keyboard. When in this odd orientation mode, and you try to click in an EditText, I can see the virtual keyboard try to slide in from the left side of the screen, then that exception gets thrown.

I'm not sure what orientation this is, because it's not the normal landscape orientation you get by hitting ctrl + F11. In fact, the virtual keyboard shouldn't even be trying to display itself in landscape mode? Much less from the left side of the emulator?

Android :: Long Running Service

Jul 27, 2010

I have an app that has a service with it. This service is started the first time you open the app is is suppose to run continuously in the background every two minutes. It seems that at some point though the service stops running or alarmManager stops scheduling/doing what is requested of it. Here is a breakdown of my code flow.

User opens the app,. Service is started, Inside the service I cancel any alarms that might be for this app then create a new one set for two minutes out, Once the alarm is set I call a GPS location check to get lat/lon, I then call up a .net web service to do some stuff with the lat/lon, Once text is returned I check that text for certain Items, If a certain item is found I send a broadcast out to a receiver that then creates a wakelock, starts a new intent to open an activity of my app then sounds an alarm, Right after I broadcast I call stopSelf() as well as calling stopSelf() if the text did not contain certain Items, I call finish() on the new activity I started if we go that far once the Active screen of my app is closed.

The reason I think something is dieing out here is because after some point in time usually once I wake up in the morning and check the phone I no longer see my GPS icon on my droid checking every two minutes.

Android :: Way To Test C2DM Service From Droid Emulator?

Jul 6, 2010

I am playing around with C2DM service. What I am concerned about is that I cannot test my device-side application from Android 2.2 emulator. The application was built more or less according to http://code.google.com/android/c2dm/index.html doc, but when register intent is sent from application, Logcat shows this: Unable to start service Intent { act=com.google.android.c2dm.intent.REGISTER (has extras) }: not found I also tried to run chrometophone and jumpnote applications and the result is the same when registring device. Any ideas? Is it possible to test C2DM service from Android emulator?

Android :: Unit Test Build Error

Mar 8, 2010

I just switched the way my Android project is being built and non of my unit tests work any more...I get errors like WARN/dalvikvm(575): VFY: unable to resolve static field X in WARN/dalvikvm(575): VFY: unable to find class referenced in signature These errors only come from my Unit Tests, where classes defined in it can't even see other classes defined in the unit test. Before each project had it's own directory with copies of the 3rd party jar files. I've read around that Dex does weird things with references but haven't been able to figure out how to fix this problem. Is there a better way to do this? I would love to see an example of a large Android workspace where there are multiple projects, jar references, etc.Is it possible to fix this with an Order/Export tweak ?

Android :: Error Occur When Try To Run Junit Test Case On Emulator?

Jan 9, 2010

After following some instructions on Diego Torres blog I am able to test my classes using the regular Eclipse JUnit test-runner, however I also want to be able to run my unit tests from within the emulated android environment. For now this should make no real difference since the classes I am working on do very basic numerical or networking tasks, but obviously anything which involves the UI or Android API specific functions can only ever be tested on the emulator.

I set up a new run configuration of type AndroidJUnitTest wich uses the ndroid.test.InstrumentationTestRunner, however whenever I fire up the test I get the following error in the console:

Android :: Strange Error With Return String From Web Service

Aug 13, 2010

I have a strange issue. I am using KSOAP2 to create a soap request to a .net webservice. I do this in a few other places and everything works fine. The webservice basically queries a data base and takes the values from the data reader and creates a string. This string is then returned. When I run the webservice on my local machine(Without using android) it works fine. When I run it from the webserver (still not android) it works fine. When I call it from my phone however the line: String hazards = (String)envelope.getResponse().toString () ; //Get response from .net Web service Simply is filled with anyType{}. Now if I go to the webservice and I manually type in the contents from the database to represent what the string concatenation should be it works perfectly. The line: String hazards = (String)envelope.getResponse().toString(); //Get response from .net Web service Now returns the string value i need. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening or know a better place to ask this question?

Android :: Adding Native Binder Service Permission Error

Sep 10, 2010

What is the best way to add a new native service that uses Binder and can get past the service_manager.cpp restrictions on what users can add services? I have created a new native service that is similar to the MediaPlayer. I make the addService() calls to add the Binder service to the system. This worked fine when the service was started as root. I moved the new service to be started as the "media" user. Then I receive permission errors because of the table in service_manager.cpp where there is a check for users and allowed Binder services. Do I have to add my service to the table or is there some other way?

Android :: Getting Test Run Failed No Test Results?

Aug 11, 2010

I have never used JUnit before, and now I'm trying to set it up on an Android project.My project under test is fairly complex, including some JNI, but my test project, at the moment, is completely trivial. I have found many examples (that look totally different) online of how to make a test project, but it seems that no matter which one I follow, I get the same results.Here's my JUnit project code:package com.mycompany.myproject.test;
import android.test.AndroidTestCase;public class SimpleTestCaseExample extends Android TestCase {public void test_testOne() {fail("Just Always Fail");When I run, I see the following in Logcat:
stdout INSTRUMENTATION_STATUS: numtests=2
stdout INSTRUMENTATION_STATUS: test=test_testOne
stdout INSTRUMENTATION_STATUS_CODE: 0
stdout INSTRUMENTATION_STATUS: id=InstrumentationTestRunner
stdout INSTRUMENTATION_STATUS: current=2
stdout INSTRUMENTATION_STATUS: class=com.mycompany.myproject.test.SimpleTestCaseExample
stdout INSTRUMENTATION_STATUS: stream=
stdout INSTRUMENTATION_STATUS: numtests=2
stdout INSTRUMENTATION_STATUS: test=testAndroidTestCaseSetupProperly
stdout INSTRUMENTATION_STATUS_CODE: 1
stdout INSTRUMENTATION_STATUS: id=InstrumentationTestRunner
stdout INSTRUMENTATION_STATUS: current=2
stdout INSTRUMENTATION_STATUS: class=com.mycompany.myproject.test.SimpleTestCaseExample
stdout INSTRUMENTATION_STATUS: stream=.
stdout INSTRUMENTATION_STATUS: numtests=2
stdout INSTRUMENTATION_STATUS: test=testAndroidTestCaseSetupProperly
stdout INSTRUMENTATION_STATUS_CODE: 0
stdout INSTRUMENTATION_RESULT: stream=
stdout Test results for InstrumentationTestRunner=..
stdout Time: 0.07
stdout OK (2 tests)
stdout INSTRUMENTATION_CODE: -1
But, I get the following in the Console:Launching instrumentation android.test. Instrumentation TestRunner on device emulator-5554 Collecting test information Test run failed: No test results I have tried a variety of different things, messing with the basic TestCase class, or the TestSuite class, or a variety of other options. I tried to just go for the most trivial example because I'm really still trying to learn how this works.Whatever I try, I see this error.

Android :: Is It Unit Test Or An Integration Test?

Nov 9, 2010

I'm working on a school project and I'm researching testing possibilities for Android applications. On this page: http: // developer . android . com/ resources / tutorials /testing /hello android. Google writes about a unit test. Is this really a unit test? A Unit test will not integrate all classes and will not test in his context. So my opinion is it is not a Unit Test but an Integration Test.

I have created the Client-Server application. At the Server site i have used the AIDL to impliment the interfaces in my Service class. At Client site i have exposed the AIDL interfaces and have one Activity that mainly do the IPC mechanism , i mean ServiceConnection, bindService and then call the Serivce of the Client site. But i am getting the error i mentioned during the bindService call.

Could you please let me know the steps mainly i have to follow to run the Client -Server Application. For time being i am running the Client .apk first and then the Server .apk, but the server one giving me error.

It would be great if you could let me know what all permission short of thing to take care, as my Client and Server code are placed at different APks, so do i need to import the Client project in my Server Project, if yes then how to impliment that.

Missing Target Class To Test In Test Application?

Nov 10, 2011

I have a project (that compiles and runs in the emulator.) I have a test project that tests part of this project. This test project also compiles with no problems, but when I try to run (test) it in the emulator, I get a NoClassDefFoundError exception on one of the classes my test class tests (I hope that made sense!) when it starts to run in the emulator. This is coming out of the adb log. I looked in the bin directory (of the test project) for the missing class, but could not find it... Should it be there? I found no reference (apk, etc) of the project I am trying to test either in the test projects bin directory. How does the test project get the classes it needs to test against (in the classpath, I assume.) How do the tested classes get moved to the emulator? I did try running the app before testing, so I know it is installed and runs correctly. BTW, I am using netbeans with the nbandroid plugin.
