Android :: MicroSD Card Upgrade - File Transfers

Apr 5, 2010

I have a HTC Desire (great) but I wanna upgrade the stock 4GB MicroSD to a 16GB so I can get all my music on there (and hopefully more apps if Google can get it done). I went ahead and ordered a class 2 16GB card because I didn't have a lot to spend. My question is what are the advantages of a faster SD card such as a class 6? Is it just quicker file transfers or is their a significant increase in loading times or something else?

Using stock Android 4.1.2 on LG Optimus Pro G. Am I hitting some subfolder limitation or something?

When I install it, are there files Android saved on my old microSD card I need to copy to my computer and transfer to the new card? It seems like most files are saved to the SD card rather than the internal memory for my apps and don't want to cause any issues when I put the new one in.

Android :: Wireless File Transfers Between Phone And Notebook

May 28, 2010

I'm looking for an app to transfer files to and from my HTC Desire and MacBook. I am currently doing it via an FTP Server app, but the big draw back is that it relies on internet upload speeds rather than using a LAN share, so it ends up being a lot slower than USB. I've tried ES File manager as that as LAN connectivity, but I couldn't get it working with my Mac.

On my Nokia N82, there was an app I used to use for this purpose called SymSMB (SymSMB for S60 3rd & 5th Edition by Telexy Networks :: Symbian software @ My-Symbian.com). What this did is allow my Mac too mount the entire SD card (or any folder of choice) from my N82 as a shared folder on my Mac, which was brilliant. Basically like accessing a shared folder on one computer from another. Is there an app that does this on Android?

General :: Linux To Android - Corrupt File Transfers?

I have pretty much given up on trying to transfer files from my pc to my phone while running Linux.

I would guesstimate, 85% of the time, the transfered file gets corrupted. It happens on different phones and different Linux distros.

I would think the two would work well together since they both run on a Linux kernel.

HTC Incredible :: Syncing To Computer For File Transfers

Aug 5, 2010

Wondering if you all could help me out; I'm probably just a bumbling idiot, but any help would be appreciated. When I connect my phone to my laptop (running Windows 7 ultimate if that helps at all) it initially had issues collecting and recognizing the drivers.I went to HTC support, didn't find exactly what I needed as far as drivers were concerned but eventually, for some reason my computer officially detected my device, its drivers, and stated that it was ready to be used. Now I go to attempt to transfer music, but there's no icon in the my computer tray saying that the phone's connected as a mass storage device. I opened up Windows Media Player and it isn't in there as a synced device either. I used the disc that came with the phone but it seems to only have an application that tracks my exact usage (as far as minutes, texts, and data as well as transferring contacts and calendars which I'm not interested in) as opposed to something that helps actually sync my device for putting music on it.Please, bear with me here. It's my first true smartphone as my previous one was a Blackberry Curve 8330. It opened the exact way I would prefer this one to: as a mass storage device.Any glaringly obvious mistakes I'm making? Or is there a problem that could be hardware related on my end?

HTC EVO 4G :: Slow 3G Coverage After MicroSD Upgrade

Nov 9, 2010

I just recently bought a new EVO and have absolutely loved it. However, I just began having an issue with my 3g connection which happens to coincide with a microSD upgrade. I recently switched out the 8gb mSD for a SanDisk 16gb class 4 card. Well since then (24hours or so), I have had weird issues with very slow 3G coverage. My internet takes forever to load pages (if at all.) Mail, facebook, weather take forever to sync (the htc weather widget will actually display my hometown as "current location") However, streaming video through SprintTV & YouTube seems to work fine without any stutter. So, my question is: Does this sound like an issue with my 3G network or is the card switch causing these issues? Incidentally, everything works fine when using Wi-Fi. I will test my 4G coverage at work today to see if that works at all or not.

HTC EVO 4G :: Storage - MicroSD Card For EVO

May 24, 2010

I'm looking to get a microSD card for my EVO by the 4th and I want to know what I should go for. I know Class 6 is the fastest, so that's what I thought I wanted to get and I wanted to get a 16gb but it looks like it's $80 on Amazon. Now, that's damn expensive for 16gb of storage and I'm not used to buying storage for my phone since I've had an iPhone. Is it worth it to drop to a lower storage capacity or a lower speed? How much of a difference does the transfer speed make on the phone? Does it hinder the speed of the phone at all? Also, for those lucky bastards that got the HTC EVO ahead of time, what kind of card comes with it?

HTC EVO 4G :: Transferring Files To New MicroSD Card?

Jun 1, 2010

With the problems I've been hearing about the SD card that's included with the EVO, I've been in a quandary over what to do: I have an 8GB Class 6 MicroSD Card that I believe trumps the included Class 2 card that comes with the EVO, so I expect I will move everything over to that card....which begs the following - I've copied over all the photos, videos, documents, and music from my card to my PC. Should I just reformat the SD card in the device, and then copy these files over? Could I just use the SD card as I have it currently set up (I have it in my Hero at this point, running 2.1). Or should I copy the contents of the new card to my PC, add the files from my old card to that, reformat my Class 6 card, and then copy the files from the PC to this card?

It's listed as 'Micro SDHC Plus', but I take it that's just marketing spiel for plain old Micro SD rather than a different type of card?

Samsung Captivate :: 32GB MicroSD Card

Aug 23, 2010

You might have seen this around the forums or other places: 32GB MicroSD. Its the 32GB MicroSD that Verizon is selling for $99 with FREE overnight shipping for their phones. You can buy it without having anything with Verizon, though.

I now have mine installed in my Captivate and the thing is great. I have 29GB of Music/Videos/Pictures loaded up on it and playing back ANYTHING on my phone is fast and doesn't stutter. I know I had some questions about this so I just wanted to post that yes, you CAN enjoy 48GB of space on a Captivate without worrying about Class size speed issues, worrying about the card being fake, etc. Well worth the 100 bucks. The money you can save from Wirefly/Amazon/Walmart etc can easily pay for this.

Samsung Captivate :: MicroSD Card Benchmarks?

Oct 7, 2010

I'd like to start collecting MicroSD card benchmarks. If you have bought a MicroSD card for use in your Captivate, please help out.

To test:

Install the following:
SD Card Speed Tester - Android app on AppBrain

Run it several times to make sure you don't get a fluke low number (like from momentary activity). If your phone is idle, you should get consistent results.

Then, please post to this thread with the following:

Card brand/model
Capacity
"Class" rating
Write speed (MB/s)
Read speed (MB/s)

Although it's not made obvious, the author has updated this app so that on Galaxy S phones it appends sd/ to the test path in order to test the external card (if present).
