Android :: Memo / Notepad App / Syncable With Password / Privacy?
Jul 18, 2010
I'm looking for a good notepad/memo application that a) can sync between Hero and computer (i.e. doesn't have to sync to the internet, although if that's an option too that's OK) b) I can somehow get all my notes from Outlook in there (so I guess it should be .csv compatible?) and c) privacy option (password protection) - like the good old Palm Treo - you can mark it private, and it gets hidden, and only shows up if you type in the password. Palm users will know what I mean. Is there such an app out there?

I used to love my Palm software, the memo pad /notepad application because I could password protect memos and then they wouldn't even be visible if someone else got my phone. Anyone know of a good notepad/memo app that has the same? Not one that needs internet connection to use, but one that can be easily synced to my computer?

My son managed to put a password onto my Asus Memo Pad. So now when I try and start it up I'm faced with a password no one knows. I've tried the little trick of holding down the volume and power buttons, but the "No USB cable connected!" message comes up, even though the USB cable is connected to my PC.

I just went from the HTC EVO to the Epic, and one thing i wanna find out. Is there any unlock pattern or password or anything for the Epic? They really need to update this phone with one because i can't lock my phone. People could just read my stuff whenever they want to or if im away from it. Its mostly pictures. What can i do for now, and think they will make a Update for this?

I am looking for an "Outlook like" note and task manager that syncs between my Eris and my PC. This seems like a much needed app and apparently it exists just not for the Droid, because I used it with my Blackberry.I just want something easy and simple that I can make my grocery list either on my Eris itself or on my desktop and have it sync up. I hate having to enter everything directly on the phone and would like to see the same notes/tasks on my PC and this also enables me to print them as well. Outlook synced up with my Blackberry and it was just a simple effort to see all my notes right there on Outlook and also on my BB. It seems like everyone is looking for this, so why hasn't it been done? Why does Eris sync up with my Outlook calendar and contacts but not my notes and tasks? Google docs seems just like the name says - docs. I just want notes to be synced to my pc. I currently using Color Notes and Easy Notes to keep stuff on my phone but, again, want it to sync with PC.

I have had this same problem happen twice to me on 2 different phones on 2 different Verizon accounts!
The password screen locks and when it asks for the user name and password it states invalid user name / password!
Is this a known problem since when I called and talked to both Verizon and HTC the only thing they could tell me was to do a hard reset and they weren't aware of this problem?

I think this may have been answered on here before but I can't find it.Basically, all I want is a memopad with the following features:
1. Storage of text with a description and grouping of items
2. Syncs to the cloud/PC so data can be entered using a PC.
3. Offline mode so can still be read on the PDA even if no internet (this is why I'm leaving Evernote).I'm at the stage where I don't think an app like exists for Android yet and am thinking I'll create folders for each group and a text file for each item. I'll then copy this to the device using Dropbox. Has anyone tried this yet.

Many of us have expressed a desire for a proper Memo application on Android, similar in functionality to the Palm OS. Necessary features include: support for multiple memos, quick access to view and edit multiple memos, ability to organize memos into categories or with tags, ability to search through all memos at once, ability to synchronize memos with desktop and/or the cloud. This poll is designed to show potential developers that there is a market for such an app.

I couldn't find anything that puts video and map together. The cloest things I could find are Ultra mate, which could insert everything (including video and voice entry) but map, and GeoDiary, which could insert map and photos but not video. I am looking for something that could put all three together, map, video and photo. Any suggestion? Is there a such thing out there in the market?

I'm transitioning my PIM's from my Palm TX to a shiny, new Evo. Big jump I know. My major concern was how to manage the hundreds of memos I had accumulated over the years. I loved the simplicity of the Palm desktop, offline access, and easy syncing but was having trouble finding a good alternative on android even after reading through many forums. I stumbled onto B-folders which seems to work great as a Palm desktop memo replacement.B-folders has a desktop component that is similar to the Palm desktop in its simplicity and ease of use. It's actually cleaner than the example they have on their website. The B-folders app is also nice and clean. Porting hundreds of memos in multiple different categories was actually very easy. Here's how I did it:
1)On the Palm desktop within a category, select all memos.
2)Export as a csv file. When it asks to specify export fields, only check "Memo".
3)On the B-folders desktop, import as a generic csv file.
4)A new folder called "Imported Data" will be created. Right click on it to edit the name.
5)Repeat for all your memo categories.
6)Sync with your app and you're done! You'll have all your memos on your desktop and phone and can sync them anytime. I used wifi to sync.
There is a 30 day trial after which it costs $30. I'm not one to usually pay for apps but this one might be worth it. Hopefully this helps all those die-hard PalmOS users left out there!

Is there an app that makes images/messages/videos only accessible with password? I could even pay for it, if it's possible from Finland. This is quite important to me because of my friends and family who will defianetly want to try the phone out once I get it.

I use the K-9 email app for some of my email accounts that aren't gmail. I have it working the way I want save only one problem. Right now when I get a mail it flashes the subject line or the first line of the email across my notification bar at the top of my screen. This is especially troubling when I'm in the car and I have my droid mounted in the car dock. I don't necessarily like my passengers in the car to be able to read the email message I just got as their heads whip to the droid when it says ..... DROID!
Handcent app doesn't have this problem. I can set each individual contact to a privacy mode where so I only get notified, but no part of the text appears in the notification bar. Is there a similar "privacy" setting for K-9 that I'm missing? If I can't get this figured out soon I'm going to have to try another email app.

Firstly, when I get my larger (32gb) micro sd card, would I be right in saying that it's just a case of copying everything from my existing card onto my PC, and then from my PC back onto the larger card?
And the other thing, is there a setting on the Galaxy GT-i15700, or one I can download for it, that wil allow me to 'password protect' a folder that I create ?

My personal phone is the Moto droid (verizon), and I use it for all my personal stuff... gmail, internet browsing, google calendar, personal calls/contacts, etc.
It would be convenient to view my work email (corporate exchange server) on my droid.
If I enable the exchange account on my droid, how much control to I cede to the corporate IT department (I really don't trust them with any of my personal info)?
I heard that they can (also heard that they can't) wipe my phone. Is that true? If so, is it just my corporate/exchange email, or the gmail, personal contacts, google calendar (etc)?
Can they access browser history? Phone logs? personal contacts?
Basically, I'd like to keep my personal and work lives as separate as possible, but it would be easier to carry access my exchange email from that personal device.

I'm new to android but just used the guides at this forum to root my LG Optimus V. I was wondering if now that I have root there is a way to install a boot password similar to the one I have on my computer. Before it loads the operating system, the BIOS asks for a password. Is there any similar functionality for android?
Also, is this possible on other devices even if it is not on mine? It's one of my favorite laymen security measures.

Looking for a notepad, which displays notes on the home screen one by one. So instead having when tiny little sticky note icon, you have one big stick note and flick left or right to scroll back on forth through your notepad. Imagine the HTC SMS Widget but instead of flicking through your text messages you are flicking thorough Notes.Does such a app/widget exist?

I'm in Memo. I've got 10 lines of text. I want to select the 4th and 5th line of text and cut them out. How do I do it? When I press the text for a couple of seconds I get the usual options to select, but it's not obvious at all what to do next. Step by step instructions would be nice, because they aren't in the manual.

Are there any apps that would allow me to write a message, convert it to a QR code, then save that graphic to the phone, or even share it via email? Bar scanner is great for sharing links as QR codes, but a notepad I could type in would be cooler.
