Android :: Losing Credit On Pay As You Go
Jul 17, 2010
I'm not a great mobile phone user and until recently used to get by with an old Nokia pay-as-you go. My iPod Touch recently got stolen, so I was looking for a replacement and thought if I got myself an Android phone (although I had no experience with Android), I could still listen to music and even have a camera, whilst having less in my pocket.
So I bought myself a Vodaphone 845 pay-as-you-go running Android 2.1 the other day and popped my old SIM card in it. The day after I bought the phone, it started beeping at me at regular intervals because it was sending me lots of text messages telling me all my credit was gone. I topped it up with € 10 wondering why I suddenly had no more credit - although there was not much in the first place. To be on the safe side, I turned off a couple of running applications and checked the credit again at the end of the day to find that it had not been reduced.
That night I turned the phone off, but when I turned it back on again, I noticed that the credit was steadily going down. This time I can't seem to stop it. I also discovered that all the services/applications I previously turned off were now running again after the phone had been rebooted.
I can't say I understand the technology (yet), but I assume something in/on the phone is trying to call home (via the SIM card?). But what? I have now also turned off the WiFi and the location finding settings, but the credit is still going down.
The applications I have installed so far ar Market, Google Navigator, and My Tracks.

I'm trying to remember the name of a social app that was kind of like Foursquare for your credit card. Every time you swiped your card at a store, your friends would be notified of where you swiped it... something like that. What was the name of this app?

I'm trying to buy an app (NavDroyd) for my HTC Desire but when I hit "Buy" it comes up with two buttons, "Credit Card" and "Cancel". "Credit card" is greyed out so all I can do is hit "Cancel" and go back round in the circle. This is the first time I've tried to buy an app.Can anyone tell me what to do next ? I've tried to help myself but a good hour going round the Android and Google troubleshooters and whatever else they are called has been unsuccessful.

For those who applied to get your payout limit removed, Google Finance required personal information (like SSN) with the understanding that they "may" be performing routine credit history verifications. Does this concern you? I understand each credit check run on you by any institution (bank, mortgage, etc) lowers your credit score. I can't understand how (or why) Google finance needs to do this. Also, does anyone know how often they do these credit checks?

So I had a question about Credit Card info, after you put it in when purchasing an APP from the Market and it saves your CCard info, how do you "Log out" or in other words stop it from having my CCard info auto logged there under "Select Card" so that if someone is using my phone they cant purchase APPs without having to re-enter all the info?

Is there an app that I can use to maintain the balances of multiple credit cards? The app does not need to be able to directly access the credit card's balances online (straight thru online banking), but I must be able to add transactions and update it manually. I also should be able to manage multiple cards without the app adding the balances of all cards into a grand total (balance).

Let me start by saying that the Droid is a pretty impressive piece of technology.I tried purchasing an MP3 through the Amazon MP3 app, which comes pre-installed on the Droid. Everything looked like it was working fine, until I got to the checkout part. I entered my amazon e-mail and password, accepted the terms of service, and was immediately taken to the "Now purchasing" screen - I was never prompted for a method of payment (is this normal).Has anyone else experienced this? Are others prompted to choose a payment method? The only other posts that I've found with this problem are from people in the UK who bought the phone in the US. The responses indicate that the problem is maybe due to the app accessing the US store, but the user being located in the UK. I bought my phone in Maryland, and that's where I live, so I don't see how this could be the problem.

I did a quick search here, but haven't found anything relevant so far. Our team consists of a few people and we'd like to register a few developers in the android market. All developers will have different google accounts, of course, but we'd like to share a single credit card for all accounts. Does anyone know if it is possible?

Reviewing your credit score is taking longer than expected. As part of processing your credit application, one of our representatives will contact you for additional information required to complete your order. Based on your credit history, a refundable service deposit may be required to activate your phone.

I'm sure most people knew this but what with the premium add on charge of $10, I wanted to be sure. Since I am going through a refi on my mortgage, I didn't want another credit check. Sprint confirmed for me, in writing, that a new check is not required if you are going through an upgrade...only at "original" activation.

As a Droid Incredible owner I must that the Droid 2 screen is VERY sharp and makes mine look soft. My wife is very happy with the phone and the battery is impressive. I got her the desk dock tonight and she loves it too. Would I trade my phone for it? No, I'm waiting for a 4g Windows Phone 7 device with front facing camera to show up on vzw.

I thought I read this somewhere but cannot find it now, it could have been a dream too. But I thought I read that if you did the pre-order on the Incredible with Best Buy, and then ported your number to Verizon when you picked it up, you would get $50 off the cost of the phone that day. Since I cannot find this, it is starting to look like the SMART30 promo code on VZW's site would be better since you get $30 off the price.

Well this is actually a question for someone else but I didn't know the answer. So can you buy cell phones using a Best Buy store credit card? Told them why not use cash or another credit card, but this person loves reward zone points.
