What's the best app on the android market for locating a stolen phone?.
I'm looking for something which can relay the approximate phone location (based on gps/wifi) and lock the phone. Also, being operate with a different sim card would be a plus.

I seem to almost always come back to this forum while doing a android related google search so I thought I would post this here.I am looking for an app that would allow users to share their gps location with their friends on fly (Live). It would be used for riding atvs on wooded trails. While riding in groups it become difficult to keep together as the trails split. We almost always have cellphone signal while we ride and would just like to upload our current gps location. Note: It would also be great if we could mark the trail on the map and share it with the group.

I am trying to find an app that I can search for a product and it will tell me what store has it. I have one called Shop Savy but that requires you to aim your phone at the barcode which is different from what I am asking.

I've just started creating some Android application and I successfully made application that locates user's latitude and longitude.
Well. The problem is that I am interested about the way how android does that with maps tools since my application starts a GPS and it takes like 10 minutes, before it finds a location indoors and maybe sometimes it doesn't even find a GPS indoors, but if I use Maps application that comes with phone it works fine indoors and outdoors it's same where I am.. the location I'm standing on is directly found without waiting any minutes. (I've changed a place and it's directly there without waiting)
Can it be done as easily as GPS locating?

I want to be able to plot every hospital within 10 miles of my current location on the map in Android. I've already started with this code as a base (http://android-er.blogspot.com/2009/11/androidlocation-with-zoom-level-control.html) I just need to plot the locations of hospitals without switching to another screen.

Is anyone having trouble locating the facebook for android app in the marketplace? I had uninstalled this app as it was completely messed up when I got my first android last week and went to go find it in the market place and it is no longer there...I tried using the barcode for the location in the marketplace to no avail and even tried clicking the link on the bottom of the webpage while using the browser that said "download facebook for your moment" which brings me to an error message that states "the requested item could not be found"
I found a couple posts on the facebook for android page with the same problem but there were no responses.

A long long time ago, like 2.5 yrs ago when I was using a Treo, there was a great app called Directory Assistant (DA for those ex treo users).
It was a dedicated white pages, and very fast.
What everybody has been telling me on my droid is just to type the name into the search bar up top. That then brings up a browser with google's results. So when I went to look for 'joe blow' 'anycity' yesterday it brought up a link for his facebook, linkedin, research paper he wrote, etc.., everything but his phone number.
What is the best way to find someones phone number or address if you know their name and state with Android on the droid?

I was looking for this info all over and still haven't found an answer. Is there a way to get the Google account or the Gmail address (no password) which have been signed to the device. the closest thing I saw is using AccountManager and Account but this is only for Android class 5 or higher and I'm developing for class 3. from my understanding this is for online services which I do not need - I'm only want the Gmail address.

I know how to sync contacts and so on, but is there any way you can call up your Android Desire address details while connected to a computer and modify them there? It would be a lot easier than using the touch screen keyboard.

The Gmail address book on the Web contains a field for birthdays, so why not the Android address book? While I'm sure the app could undergo a lot of changes (and everyone would have different ideas) something as basic as a birthday seems obvious.

I like to add addresses to my phone book in Android. As a lot of my contacts live in buildings i also like to add the floor and apartment number to the address: Looking like that:
Street and Number, Floor and Department number
Town, zip code
State
Country
Example;
Av. Whatever 12345, Floor 5-A
Buenos Aires 1007
Argentina
When clicking on the address the GPS of my wish opens , finds the country, city but not the street because of the additional Floor and department information. Without this additional information everything well with Google Maps or Sygic.
So, how should i add this additional Floor and department information to my address without the GPS has problems to find the main location. Also from ICS on there is only one filed to add the whole address not as with Gingerbread where you had a field for street, city, etc.

Just getting used to my HTC Desire, after reading your forum I was comforted regarding battery life and it seems much better now than the first few days.
I see another post on this but no answer, the address book only gives one line of the address is then any way round this? Even my first pda a Psion 3 had the option of which fields to display etc. there seems very little option to format what is seen, not that I am unhappy about the rest but to have to edit to see all the address is barmy.
Another thing way back then that still is not found is search all fields of the contacts, i.e. to find a number of someone that rang on another phone.

I want to change the email address the phone is set up to. But I have a niggling suspicion doing so requires a factory reset. First things first, please tell me if that's wrong and I'll be happy. If however I'm right, What's the best way to go about saving everything? If I download a backup program, will it store all my settings, apps etc or just data on the SD card? And will changing the email address bugger something up and stop me from restoring the backup? I wouldn't put it past google.

I tried getAddress/setAddress (setters/getters). They do not work. They always return 'no address' (the default).

I searched through another thread and it wasn't specified, but I have the Droid2 and want to connect to the home wifi router, but don't know my phone's MAC address as this is the setting of the router to make it more efficient for gaming.
I have already gone to the settings page under wifi and 'advanced' but it has a MAC ADDRESS listing, but won't let me select it saying it is unavailable.
1. How can I enable and find out my MAC Address
2. While I'm at it although I have not been on the forums in a few weeks and admit this is a lazy ploy at help, has a one click or 'user-friendly' root come for Droid2 that doesn't require me to read pages of a thread and go through 100 steps!?
